one other tip, for older Hasselblad backs the winding knob is turned reverse, to arm the counter system, the "12-on" backs, and maybe this 70mm back to, Am not sure, but this most likely is the case, esp. if the film is loaded and tensioned on the take-up spool correctly (a lose spool here could be the cause, as the spool movement is what does the counter motion, indicating film movement, and if the spool isn't moving, then the counter is not either!). with the last comment, I do now notice it is a hasselblad you are using, Pardon me, just that the common sight of this is on Linhof lf aerial cameras, as in aerial photography you don't want to be fiddling with it "up there", so this film Length as well as the size helps with this, like the 250/750 backs on the 135 Nikon F3 and Canon F models, for sport photography.

The film was loaded although the red window was showing. It jumped to the white position showing loaded as the camera was moved. This can be seen in the last frame. VA will have this back serviced as it also had problems with engaging when the camera was wound on.

one point to stress about the circlip, you DO need it, unlike 120 6x6 etc, that is hand cranked, either on a mamiya back, or via an on-body winding crank aka hasselblad/Bronica/Pentax 67 etc. the linhof aerotechnika uses a motor winder, via plane power, as this 70mm is used in arial photography, long story short this extra step ensures the motor horsepower doesn't strip the film off the spool, via a tape rip.

Brilliant. I have the bits to use a Mamiya RB67 70mm 6x7 back on a Graflex 23. For now I’m considering just 1.5m to use like 220. What size tanks do I need if doing 5m? I remember hanging to dry my 16mm 8m was a chore. Is it 65mm adaptable?

Do you know whether this will this work with Kodak VIsion3 film? Or, will the perfs not line up?

It will NOT work with any of the Vision 3 films. The vision 3 films are actually 65mm tall and shoot an image that is 70mm wide which is why its called 70mm film. This uses film that is 70mm tall. So there would be a 5mm discrepancy between the two as well as the perfs being in the wrong place.

As explained by the author, Vision 3 is not compatible. It is in the type known as Todd AO 65/70 system. You can search for this to find the full history and description. The 70mm made for still photography is marked on the packaging as 70mm Type II perforation.

With a modification, it's possible. It involves replacing the wheel inside the back that has teeth on it for engaging with the sprockets, with a wheel that has a rubber ring around it. These "all-perf" wheels work with any perforations, or even unperforated 70mm film. For 65mm film, a custom spool is also needed inside the 70mm film canisters, to make it properly align the film with the wheel.

using 65mm is possible if you find a handy instrument maker to adjust the back for 65mm instead of 70mm type II
