Do you close the damper when you get to the temperature that you want or do you leave it open

No I do not close the damper. The temperature is regulated by the blower fan and the digital controls.

How do you deal with the error code e04

I have not had that error. Manual says it could be an issue with the temp sensor wire or connection.

What is error E04 (tMP SnS Err)? The control system cannot detect the temperature probe or the temperature probe malfunction. To resolve the error: Unplug the grill from the power. Remove the control panel and ensure all wires are not damaged and are firmly connected. Reassemble and retry. If the error persists, please call Oklahoma Joe's customer service for support.

Any issues with the fire not going out when closing the damper? Other folks keep saying any charcoal in the hopper when the cook is finished will burn out until it runs out. I see this being a fire hazard potentially. Thanks for any feedback

It does not go out. My understanding is the damper is meant to reduce combustion. As for me I am playing with a oversize fridge magnet to close off the air intake, I will make a video if it works. Also, I live on a creek so I don't leave any fuel in any of my smokers.
