what if you're interested in analyzing data across years? would it make sense to try to combine these years into one dataset?
@catalystmedicalconsulting59256 ай бұрын
hi K.loo27. Great question. There are multiple steps involved in doing a correct longitudinal analysis research study using NIS/NEDS/NRD. We go over this process in details in the Advanced Catalyst Workshop. The next one is on August 10-11, 2024. You can check the workshop details and you can also register on the workshop webpage: www.catalystsclinic.com/advanced-workshop.html

Thank you for the great videos and course. I am trying to merge multiple years together but that step is not included in the course. can you please help with that ?
@catalystmedicalconsulting59252 жыл бұрын
You are welcome! I am glad you enjoyed the video. You cannot merge multiple years together, you have to append them. Longitudinal analysis using NIS/NRD/NEDS is explained n details along with other useful topics in the Advanced Catalyst Workshop. Please visit us at www.catalystsclinic.com to know when the next Advanced Catalyst workshop will be held

Fantastic video! I've just received my NIS data, but when I download the ASC document from the zip file, it downloads as a Stata do file and not a Word document like yours. Have you ever run into this before or have any suggestions on how to convert the the file in a way that's usable? Thank you so much!

Thank you Fay! I am glad the video was useful. The icon/shape of the ASC file might change from one computer to another based on the computer default setting. As long as the file extension is ASC you are good.

I am trying to MERGE load files for 2019 NIS. This one has extra file diagnosis and procedure Group file, How to merge that file. i merged core file with hospital and then severity file.
@catalystmedicalconsulting59253 жыл бұрын
Hello Zeeshan. For NIS 2018 and newer, there is indeed a new file, which is the diagnosis and procedure group. It was present in previous NIS versions too, up until 2015. Merging is similar to NIS 2017: - Hospital file: 1:m or m:1 using HOSP_NIS - All other files: 1:1 using KEY_NIS

Hello Doctor! Thank you for these amazing videos! In the NIS 2019 there is a new file called NIS_2019_DX_PR_GRPS, can you please tell us what's this file for? And in case it is necessary, how to merge this one with the CORE, HOSPITAL and SEVERITY files? Thank you so much!
@marcgeorgi61772 жыл бұрын
Hello Yassine, Thank you very much for your kind words. Much appreciated! The NIS_2019_DX_PR_GRPS is a file that categorizes diagnoses into categories of diseases using a classification created by HCUP. I myself do not find it useful and have not used it. But if you would like to use it, you can simply merge this file to the core file 1:1 using KEY_NIS. Good luck!
