Most useful mechanics vids out there for disc golf. Thank you. The attention to sports physics and cross-sport references is outstanding effort.

Man... I just came here to say thank you for all the hard work you have done in terms of how the disc golf throw works.. your video that I saw of you helping the player where he was loading and just basically falling backwards versus loading WHILE falling forward into the plant... That's what clicked for me. That's loading the bow and arrow.. Thank you so much.. threw my 9 speed 370' today about 15' off the ground

This helped me feel what the door frame drills should feel like as well. Such a fantastic video. Helps pull so many concepts together. I really like how you bring all the pieces together, this is a good style for your videos. You have laid out all the foundations of the swing and now you are bringing them together with awesome drills like this!

I'm a Baltimoron who is learning the sport here in Japan (Japan is definitely not a disc golf friendly country yet). It put a smile on my face to see you repping The Birds in this video. Thanks for the great advice. I will definitely incorporate this activity into my daily drills. Go O's!

This was a well put together video, you used references to other videos and provided links to them (and they ring a bell since I've seen all of them!) And present a path to a good swing for any disc golfer. I'm new but these have helped me a lot more because the description of forces, muscles and energy is based in science which is a lot better than the metaphorical description of others.

I really like the pool cue to really help teach you to walk the disc out instead of do the bad habit of the "literal reach" for the backswing. I thought about doing it with a rope and a disc, or a really really heavy band. But this is going to teach your body a bit more of a drive into the swing vs a pull into the swing. Gonna have to explore this a bit. Though, are we not trying to avoid over turning the shoulders? Or this fits more in the drill category of trying to help you in place..

I think this drill would be a good starting point to achieving correct loading into the rear hip and allowing the weight to come exactly how seabass22 mentioned in the video. But I think that this drill could be expanded by incorporating hip rotation slightly to get the feel of the hips leading the drive. Like in pitching, more specifically Brusdar Graterol, he loads his rear hip and then let’s his body fall exactly how seabass22 aludes to but before he plant his foot he already starts his rotation slightly. Just a thought🤷♂️
@seabas223 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I do not advise trying to rotate forward, especially in this drill unless you let go of the arrow, otherwise it will unnecessarily kink up your spine. Drive forward and let the arrow pull/load you back. If your shoulders are are loaded back, then the hips are leading. Rotation is basically automatic when you are loaded and drive forward from the instep of the foot, just like walking or skating. Pitching is slightly different than Backhand due to longer stride and planting way more open which opens the pelvis to swing the trail shoulder/arm thru, instead of the lead shoulder/arm for backhand. Below are some drills that go into the drive and rotation that happens. looking at the 753 mark here with the diagram too. Kind of a neat interesting thing. Because you'll watch the top players suddenly stand up on their heel when they going for big power. Which this idea demonstrates in a new way and really good explination. Your body is the limbs and youre loading them, then letting them pop with the brace and the drive.

nice excersice to get the "feel" for Coil. But first you talk about "butt" first towards the wall, bending away from the wall.. and then you talk about leaning towards the wall, that means butt in? i think upright and weight on the back leg is crucial? but leaning towards the wall is better than from the wall? did i get that right?
@seabas222 жыл бұрын
The butt swings forward underneath the upper body after you are leaning forward, so your tilt changes when you drop in.

Excellent discussion of form. It's surprising you didn't poke through the sheetrock, you had to have been putting pressure o the wall.

At 0:36 "You dont want your shoulder to collapse, so when you're pushing against, its actually pushing you back away" Do you feel this the whole swing? When people mention 90 degrees for the shoulder and arm angles is there more to it? Or are they just trying to reference the sensation of "pushing against it/it pushing you back away" to prevent shoulder collapse
@seabas222 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's loading the spring - elbow forward. IMO 90 degrees would be a bare minimum, and is often misinterpreted due to parallax. Most top pros are preset wider closer to 120 degrees like Drew here. i.imgur.com/qHMX9KR.png

Great video, once again. One observation/question: When Eagle is at full backswing he starts to turn his rear knee inward (some use the term "dropping the knee) (most other pros do this too). Thus far I have thought that this was so he can push of the ground with his rear foot/toe (gas pedal). But watching this video I am thinking that he does this to stretch his posterior oblique sling just a little more. What do you think? Also that Myotatic Reflex video is awesome. It can explain why so many DG players start to pull with their shoulder (collapsing the shoulder) when in full backswing. And that shoulder pull takes away the affect of the posterior sling or loosens the stretch in the sling.
@seabas223 жыл бұрын
The knee turning inward and dropping is just a reaction or byproduct of releasing the torsion load of the backswing as the weight pressure leaves the ground, it is not an intentional action. If you try to do it intentionally it is a Valgus knee position which is not good. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4eYdKCimreUpas
@pallarmann3 жыл бұрын
Ah so it's the external rotation in the rear hip/femur, that releases when the front foot lands/braces (weight shifts from back to front), that creates what looks like the knee being dropped. Kind of like the uncoiling of a spring I guess. Wow, so since the knee drops so much there must be a lot of tension/torsion load in that rear leg created by the external rotation. That's very interesting. Thank you.
