I think this position is just a function of achieving a solid and balanced brace, and mostly hyzer and some flat shots. It’s not a position many pros would achieve with an anhyzer and some flat shots, with them having less accentuated back leg rise or even some toe dragging. In any case, this isn’t a manual motion - it’s a passive motion into this position - you’re not trying to do this, it just happens for the reasons I mentioned. I wouldn’t call this a leg kick as that phrase has been reserved for the manual extension of the back leg seen in a select few pro players, most notably David Wiggins Jr. Watching David, you’ll see he’s actively fighting the collection of the back leg by extending his back leg straight versus letting it rise and bend like Eagle is doing in this video. He does this regardless of distance, while other pros who do this are only doing this with big shots - 600-650+ feet. I’m not sure why the leg kick is so prevalent with David versus most other pros, and I’m not sure how this active fighting of the collection of that back leg can help with distance. I imagine the power generation has to be so extreme that the back leg anchor has to move more quickly backwards in an effort to keep balanced.
@seabas2216 күн бұрын
It's all the same locomotive move while "shifting from behind", but different shots/balance can result in different looking motion after leaving the ground. Christian Sandstrom does it on anhyzer here, I also sometimes do it on anhyzer and hyzer, while other shots it drags like GG. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnyykpmOjN52i9k
@seabas2216 күн бұрын
Drew Gibson also does it on all shots.
@luuhax18 күн бұрын
This makes no sense.. What are you implying? What is causing what here? The reason for the leg kick during running is to shorten the lever so your hipflexors can pull the leg forward for the following stride? But the reason for "the kick" in disc golf is surely not to cycle the back leg into the next step in "locomotion"?
@seabas2217 күн бұрын
If you didn't shorten it, then you would be stuck dragging on the ground. Look at the motion of both legs.

If I'm reading and seeing this right, here is the order of operations: Begin low, bend knees, transfer weight from back to front leg, as you rotate hips. The back leg should come up, and then the front leg should pivot on the heel. Watching Eagle on the right seems to indicate this as well.
@griffintschurwald30818 күн бұрын
Kick is mostly as a counterweight so you can hold your hyzer posture, right? So you can keep your axis of spin tight around your spine
@Quixote5616 күн бұрын
@@griffintschurwald308 I would say as a counterweight to prevent your body from rotating. If you allow your body to rotate before the disc is released, you lose your brace and some of the energy that would be transmitted into your throw ends up going into your body rotating around, plus your release point is probably going to be more inconsistent. Trebuchet's one leg drills (which he may well have gotten from seabas) emphasize the same thing.
@seabas2216 күн бұрын
@@Quixote56 It does counterweight, but helps leverage/rotation. Trebuchet's one leg drill is very different concept than the one displayed here.
@coach_chris_taylorАй бұрын
That is an interesting take but unfortunately it is not quite that simple to take a 2D view and compute the physics of rotational centers. From this perspective, you are focused on the movement (or lack of movement) of the trail shoulder in a global frame vs local frame. Because the entire body is moving in space, to compute upper torso rotational centers they need to be constrained to the local frame anatomy, typically something relatively immovable such as the sternum or perhaps a point near the center of the spine. I'll try to post another stickman from a different view.

You're the only one I've found who goes into a deep dive about the grip. I finally get it now. Thank you, you've helped me finally understand what's really going on with the throw/swing. The battering ram analogy was a lightbulb moment for me.. Thank you for helping me finally "get it" after months of frustration trying to learn to throw properly. Thank you sir. As a 44yo beginner i was really struggling and thinking that maybe I'm just too old and weak to ever throw far. But now I'm using gravity and better form to get distance and not just trying to muscle the disc out.

He's shoulder-chucking on the left side. So that's no good. But the front leg extension IS very important during the elbow extension. Not only does it increase the rate of torso rotation by pushing the right hip backwards, it also increases pressure (and hence traction!) on the ground just when you need the most grip. Then, it also releases the traction on the front foot, when the extension is finished, by automatically unloading the plant foot, allowing it to rotate freely. Drew Gibson probably demonstrates this action better than any other pro player.

Hi, I was wondering if you'd answer a question. There at 1:54 where you replay the video. What exactly are you doing to make that start like that? Are you pushing into the ground with the rear leg to get to the other side?
@seabas228 ай бұрын
The start of the move is falling. Lift your front foot and you will start falling and drifting targetward leveraging your Center of Mass. There's a little hip hinge, abduction and coil and foot eversion helping drive/leverage horizontally. I talk about this in Door Frame Drills, Butt Wipe, and Hershyzer 1 and 2.
@ajazsyed32638 ай бұрын
I equally like the rear shoulder counter clockwise backstroke @ 4:04 as well as swedish badfish rear shoulder clockwise move. Are these mutually compatible? If so does the rear shoulder's orientation reverse in the swing? Thanks man, fyi these are pretty low impact to pain free exercises

Hell yeah. I tested the pendulum pump and backswing style a few times recently and it definitely had some easier access to power. Partly, I think, due to the extra arm weight in the back swing resulting in a deeper stretch. Was harder to control nose and launch though but I'm sure that would get better if I practiced it.
@seabas229 ай бұрын
For sure, lot of accuracy players use it like Feldy, MJ, Philo, Schultz, although Stokely says he only uses it now for more distance, and Jen Allen also uses it and I've seen a lot of young guns using it. Was interesting Barela said Feldy was his favorite form to copy growing up.

Would totally agree that it adds to some of the "balancing act" challenge, but almost everyone who tries it gets something out of it whether they stick with it in their final form or not!
