Favorite fighting series of the 90s. Right up there with SF & KI. Power Stone kind of took over in the 2000s personally lol.

My favorite were the Rival School series, as well as mentioned above. I suck at them, but I love them.

That opening was a great initiative from Hudson for this game. BRPF took the perfect opportunity, being made at that time of the big trend of making anime openings for games. The idea started in the ps1 gen and the trend apparently peaked around the early-mid 00s.

So in Japan, these games had the same name on Gamcube and XBox but in the US they changed the GameCube's name.... interesting. This game is truly beautiful. Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur II and Bloody Roar Extreme are especially gorgeous titles from this era.

DOA (3 around that time), TK4, SC2, VF4, they were all close to each other and were pushing the 3d standards foward in fgs at the time. Then there were lower classes of 3d fgs, formed by SFEX3, MK DA, RS2/Project Justice, etc... BR (in the end a minor fg franchise) surprisingly still managed to grow so much after BR2, that it became close to that top class of 3d fgs. I personally put BR3 and BRPR below the top class and above the class of SFEX3 and MK DA.

Its strange that it never happened after the SF4 phenomenon that boosted up the interest in classic fgs. And actually disappointing that still today it never happened and there isnt any sign of hope, no matter how much the classic fgs are growing today.

Unfortunate but not a surprise. Even the big franchises had at least one bad moment in their history. Sticking to fgs, if we try thinking about it, any non biased person will realize that most fg franchises had a bad moment. Its just extra bad when the game kills the franchise... and this part actually didnt happen very often.
