LOADpro® vs. Volt-pro vs. Powerprobe® vs. Corrosion

I've finally done a head to head to head experiment showing the fundamental difference between these 3 tools and how they do and don't see corrosion. 80% of electrical faults are in wires - LOADpro and the Voltmeter-only diagnostic method tests wires - first - fast.

Anyone who doesn't clearly see that the LOADpro is far superior to a power probe, VoltPRO or test light, doesn't understand how the tool is used or perhaps how electricity works. I bought the load pro a few weeks ago. My time locating the bad spots in circuits has dropped dramatically. I found a wire with heavy resistance in a starter relay circuit that would have had me chasing my tail just days before, found it in minutes. My boss has 20+ years experience over me and he chose the power probe and suggested I invest in one as well. Not being the sharpest at electrical I researched for a long time before choosing the Load Pro. Very happy I did. Now if I can just get my boss to believe it works. P.S. bought the FET book with it-great combination, really helping me improve my electrical diagnostic abilities.

I purchased your LoadPRO test leads and your probe kit. I am a heavy equipment mechanic. LoadPRO saves me a LOT of TIME! It has found a bad/internally corroded battery cable lug, a bad starter relay, and a bad heater blower switch. But, most of the time it does not find anything wrong, and that's where it is most useful to me. Because I have no dead ends to diagnose! I can simply replace the part and be done knowing the battery, wiring, fuses, and switches are not the problem.

The voltmeter reads battery voltage but doesn't need battery voltage to operate. The other tools need to be connected to the battery, in order to read the battery, or they don't work at all. A mirror doesn't need electricity to see your reflection - a video camera does. I can use the voltmeter anywhere on a vehicle to read voltage - but I don't need to hook it to the battery. It's pretty simple. Keep reading.

You should probably mention that while a dmm doesn't need system voltage of the equipment your working on, it does indeed need/have a battery (primarily as a reminder I guess). Without it the meter, and load pro as well, are useless. I've seen plenty of guys waste hours on a diagnosis just to end up being low/corroded batteries in their meter. If you end up on a road service and forgot to pack spare batteries, you're SOL. I don't understand the reason for the comparison either. Aside from reading voltage the power probe and load pro doesn't share any other functions of one another.....or do they? I don't even know what that third tool was you were comparing so I'll refrain from comment on it. I do own a power probe and it is awesome for most things but it doesn't load test circuits. I got a light that pulls approx 3.5 amps for that. I've been strongly considering getting a load pro just for a little more simplicity, hence what lead me here. In reference to your comment in the video about poking wires, it's never a good idea to pierce a wire but there are times when it is unavoidable and it should only ever be implemented as an absolute last resort. Make sure to seal the poke hole up when you're finished.

I just happened on this channel and i am an electronic engineer. I see easily the real true value on the diagnostic side of this tool. Before i give too much feedback i am going to test it as well, i am sure my findings will be as good as described and can not wait to try it. Top tool dan, its been a great asset to me in the 10 months I've had it. I left the military after 8 years as a mechanic and still struggled on the basic electrics. After a little bit of learning and then finding this tool its been great. I try telling everyone who will listen how great it is and how much its saves. Sometimes feels like I'm banging my head against wall when their still testing with a test light or the old power probe with green/ red LEDs

Dan , I just diagnosed this exact scenario on a Cummins ISX and found corrosion in the very connector you are testing. I solved an intermittent fault that had plagued a customer for months. I have the original Teslight and Load Pro. I have saved several customers from needlessly replacing ECMs on Cat engines. Most don't realize the difference between voltage and current. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic presentation Dan !! I am lost for words trying to understand why anyone could not see how it works. I think you should have mentioned as well that the other testers only use battery ground and not circuit ground because in my experience I find more circuit grounds with high resistance that circuit power wires. Brilliant bit of kit I've had mine about for about 2wks and today they paid for themself. Saab 9-3 no fuel pump. I had 12v at the pump but it still didnt work, hit the button and it went down to 1.2v traced the wire back to a plug under the bat tray that was green with corrosion. Using these leads gave me the confidents to say the fault was in the power side and in turn saved me time, and the customer money. Another garage had already put a pump in it because they thought it had + and -.

Hello Dan! I took your FET training class at Kokosing in 2008 i believe, It was the best training i have ever had, I now own a repair business of my own, and Load pro leads are the only thing allowed on a electrical repair. Daniel, first off I can a big fan. I have both the Load Pro and one of your books. I use my load pro on my Power Probe. I recreated this same test on a gasoline engine and I was able to see a voltage drop using the Power Probe by hitting the button to see battery voltage and then testing the connection at the plug and finding .3 volts less. I then did what I always do and connected the Load Pro to the Power Probe and tested with the Load button and with the 500mv load I got 9.7v. As a note I really wish that you would make the Load Pro II with banana jacks so that I can use all of my Fluke adapters, (mainly my back Probe pins). I would certainly be one of your first customers for one.

HI Dan I think your tool is great I have two might buy one more . I watch a lot or your reviews and they were great learning. Now i have a lot of power probes and they are good tools But I notice you didn't go up against the power probe Hook. The hook has what they seem the same as yours they call it the power shot button which does what yours does but like you said your is more portalable no power sorce needed other than the battery in the meter.

I bought a power probe III a couple of years ago to help diagnose electrical problems that pop up sometimes in the 6 vehicles that I own. I am a backyard mechanic who would rather learn and fix my vehicles than have somebody else do it. About a year ago I had some corrosion in a lighting circuit that the PP3 was no help on. I bought the load pro/book from amazon. After coming up to speed with it, it took me about 8 minutes to locate the bad ground. Also I wish I could draw like you. I'm a klutz.

is the load sufficient enough that no faults are going to slip by ya? any reason the resister inside of it is not any larger? some people will use a headlight bulb, im saying whynot 2 or 3 or 6. If a circuit has a 10, 15, or 20 amp fuse im thinking load that sucker up! this puts a 1 amp draw on it correct?

Great video... Mr Sullivan Going to purchase one... As an Electrical Engineer I understand the need to be efficient in my work... I do residential electrical repairs and mods in the homes and started customizing vehicles (wiring systems) and found loadpro to be a excellent product.... I've been using this tool for years I just ran across this video it's amazing that not too many people know about it this is the way to go now I just use a Milwaukee 12 volt with a couple jumpers to load anything cool tool bro big kicker now they're like 50 bucks I spent almost $200 on it back in the day.

I started working for cummins 2.5 years ago as a green horne..i needed to load some wires in a harness one day and a buddy said to try his load pro instead of hooking a bulb into play and it worked so effortlessely and ive used one ever since to diagnos issues..great tool with this i actually find no use for a power probe

I'm getting this tool. It's going too be a time saver. So much faster than loading the Circuit with a headlight. I think if the inventor would tell people it was a headlight test with the push of a button,anybody who does diagnostics would buy one.

I just bought this tool from Amazon and I have no doubts that it is a great tool. I am not a professional tech or mechanic, just a back yard shade tree handyman. It would be great if you could make some basic repair videos using the load pro..i.e, A.C not working how would you trouble shoot why the compressor won't turn on...or some sort of electrical problem and how to solve it with the load pro.

I support you Dan.. Anyone that understands the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in a circuit should easily be able to see that this a great diagnostic tool. Most of all it saves time and money if you are skilled and know how to use it correctly. Awesome too is all I can say that wont break the bank.
