Glorfindel was the best thing shown in the stream for me personally as we’ve needed a model that represents what a beast he is in game and in lore but I was very happy with the Galadhrim court guard models I’ve wanted GW to redo that model for years but never thought we’d actually get it so cannot wait to add loads of them to my Lorien army.

While I'm kinda sad there were no new plastic troop kits (I mean come on there's literally a unit called "Osgiliath Veterans". Sure, the kit would basically just be slightly altered Minas Tirith warriors but still) and the Glorfindel models are FW exclusive the battlehosts are very interesting. A cheaper way to get into the game with a hero and some basic troops as well as free downloadable rules sounds like the perfect way to try and capitalise on any potential LotR hype from Rings of Power while not having to invest too much into new sculpts. I'm hoping these do well so we can get more boxes for some of the other factions, maybe even with some new plastic troops? Also, they did mention the kit for the ranger heroes also includes some woodland terrain as an option if you want to go for more of an Ithilien vibe rather than Osgiliath.

the new glorfindel foot and mounted with armor is one of the nicest miniatures in the middle earth range.

No. It does not. It has regular Galadriel and normal hobbit armies lol

Do the new hero models get an ‘in the way’ test from any shooting due to their base terrain??? 🤣

Sorry to disappoint, but terrain on bases do not count as 'in the way' probably because some players build some funky looking one-man bunkers around their characters.

Just got the Rohan Box today and was a bit underwhelmed. Figs were outstanding but simple. Thing that annoyed me was a small set of directions for building the characters figs but nothing else. What I would have liked to see was something easy and exclusive to the box, printed army and character lists with a new scenario relevant to that army (a different one in each box), or a piece of terrain. Would also have preferred the character figs to be metal but sort of understand why they were not, and they were top quality anyway. As a new player who only has a unassembled 20 year old fellowship of the ring starter (and did get the bilbo fig) that has been sitting in the closet for decades to work off of this is not really helpful to get rolling. Maybe even a basic simple rulebook like other companies have would have helped. Thing is 5 sprues of figs for their price point is a bit of a rip off without any backup content. Nothing to get a new player excited or capture the attention of someone who just gets the box for Christmas or a birthday without any support media. Again the figs are good, but they took the cheap route on extras in the box that may affect their desirability and does nothing to promote game play.

Unfortunately I'm sceptical that the new box will be as good a value as the former. £260 of content for £105 in Pelennor. Excluding terrain and making some assumptions about the price of the heros and rules, this new box comes to £168 of value for (best case) the same price as Pelennor. Wooo gotta love that depreciating return. I hope it's cheaper to get more people into the game but I doubt it. 😔

Yes, if you consider the terrain to have no value, it will obviously be significantly worse value for the box. Based on their other terrain, it's a least two kits worth and terrain kits cost more than the heroes

@@bobbobby5208 I do think it will be a better box to get people involved. My real worry is that GW terrain is universally overpriced for what it is (even though they are very pretty and useful) and its inclusion could justify a price hike that makes it less suitable for new players. I'm also probably going through a rose tinted phase but I look fondly on the time when the LOTR core box rules came with suggestions and guides on how to build the terrain yourself to keep the cost down for new players. Maybe that's too much of a curve for new players who've never been in wargaming before?

people always are. New players see the range in the books vs what's available on the store and think the world is ending. I haven't heard any serious rumours like that though
