Good luck with the Loblolly pines, rare to see them used for bonsai so will be interesting to see how they do. Very common pine in the SE US used a lot for timber production. FYI, I've always heard them pronounced Lob-lol-ly but scientific name is Pinus taeda, no idea how that is pronounced. Very beautiful trees when mature but most are harvested long before they reach full size.

Ronald thank you for watching. I have only seen 1 as a bonsai at a bonsai nursery. It is something you almost have to see in person to appreciate. Lucky for me I have many years before they are bonsai, so that gives me plenty of time to study them!

Nice starters and a bonus of 8 more to the pot so to say. Pond baskets are great little pots for using to get the roots started. A lot of work but well worth it in the long run.

I’ve never heard of that type of pine better. Great job potting all of the trees Matt 😊

Thanks Gail. Like Matthew said it only grows in the eastern united states from New Jersey down to Florida and over to Texas. It is a warm weather conifer. Haha ! Thank you for watching!

It is not actually copper wire. It is aluminum wire anodized to look like copper. Not as strong as copper, but atleast it gives the look. Thank you for watching!

Well done Matt. Hope the pond baskets help with drainage and air pruning of the roots during the pre-bonsai stage of their development. Nice start for the Pines. 👍👍

Thank you Guy. I'm sure you ment the bigger pond baskets when you recommended them, but I was thinking when I ordered 1y.o. saplings that they would be much smaller🤦‍♂️😂. Thank you for watching!

"pond basket"? dainage"? LOBLOLLY pines grow in LOBLOLLYS! Loblollys are swampy areas that would drown the roots f other pine trees.
@bobcatbonsai
@bobcatbonsai Жыл бұрын
@@michaelbourandas7236 as a bonsai tree drainage and air flow are very important. I treat the loblolly similar to a willow, though the roots can be soaked does not mean that they have to be. Thank you for watching!

🤔 Wondering if the method that is sometimes used to make Ponderosa pine needles shorter would work for Loblolly pines? Seeing the word but not hearing it is often something that catches everyone out it just means you have read it without ever hearing it.(typically a sign of higher learning) The hint here is that it rhymes with "Bob Holly" Nice show Matt!
@bobcatbonsai
@bobcatbonsai Жыл бұрын
I will have to look into that Patricia. The Loblolly are normally just trimmed back or you accept the long needles. It will never really be ment for a show piece, as far as I know.
