See this is one thing that gets me as a dog owner, before buying a dog you should look into the breed and for someone who didn’t know much about dogs he went out and brought a mixed dog with two breeds that can be challenging training especially a husky type and now something has happened he’s got rid of it , this isnt a hate comment but so many people do this and so many dogs end being rehomed due to the fact they didn’t research the dogs needs and traits before going out and buy it , then when something happens then say “I don’t know why it done that or I should never have brought this dangerous dog into my home.husky needs a strong leader and can been known for biting especially when young , this is definitely setting a bad example, you can hate on this comment all you want but it’s the truth !

As a former K9 handler, I used to get asked all the time if I was worried about my dog ever attacking my kids since his job was chasing down and biting criminals. In the 8 years as a police dog, he never once tried to hurt my kids. My daughter was 2 when I got him and then had twins 4 years later. That dog watched over the kids like it was his job. He would sleep next to their beds and cribs at night, come get me or my wife whenever they would be moving a lot or whining. He never barked at visitors. He would watch them and look at me for my reaction. If I greeted them, he walked away. If I would start asking questions to someone like a solicitor, he’d stand right there. Even at work, if a suspect took off running, he wouldn’t go until he was given the command. The whole police dog takedown is a game in their minds. They aren’t attacking anyone, they are doing what they were trained to do to get their tennis ball afterwards. These comment section dog experts that say hugging stresses the dog out and other incorrect statements, my kids hugged, laid on, the babies grabbed his tail, his face, his paws, and he could care less. Huskies are a very mouthy dog and do tend to bite a lot. I think Lobo had a huge work drive and just wasn’t right for a family oriented environment. He wanted to be Alpha. My dog was very aware that he was not dominate to any of the family and that was there for our protection on and off the clock. Intelligent beyond belief but not suited for all environments.

I completely agree with you! I've raised a lot of pups for service work and worked at breeder/trainer for years. We have a husky, and he's exceptional for a husky. But even him I would say never for a first time owner and definitely not if the first time owner has kids and no built in training support. They are amazing dogs but will test you and are very mouthy. And we've had all of our dogs actively seek hugs.

Lobo had husky in him, they are notorious for mouth related playing, some research before buying the dog, would of told him that the dog wasn't suitable for a child based home unless trained 100% by the household, including the child, otherwise, the dog could think its playing and still bite its owner, as proved by me and zeus my husky constantly, we play fight, he bites zero people beyond me.

Nah you failed that PUPPY by throwing him away as soon as he displayed undesirable traits. That dog didn't bite her face on purpose he bit it because it's just what happened to be there he reached out of pain, he's an animal and can't just suck it up like humans can and as far as biting your sister? You do know FEAR and CONFUSION are ALSO SYMPTOMS OF PAIN. Yes it's an unfortunate accident and 2 people got hurt in the same incident but it wasn't entirely out of the blue and definitely not for no reason. And I'm happy you cared enough to find him a new home instead of having him euthanized but I'm terribly disappointed you choose to take the easy route instead. You've been hurt by non-mamal animals in the past and didn't dump them on someone else because it's "in their nature" it's instinctual well the same needs to go for the dog he REacted instinctually to something that caused him pain and should have been granted more grace from you. Also you admit she really actually needed stitches even if it was only one. Which leads me to believe that she wasn't taken to the hospital AFTER BEING BITTEN IN THE FACE. Why?? Also you want to follow all the rules and regulations for all these reptiles what about the dog bite laws Did the dog undergo a rabies quarantine? Was the bite reported to the proper authorities? Where are the answers to these questions?

Nip training was one of the first and most important things we did with our dog. I would go out of my way to play with his mouth, to take his food and give it back, and if he nipped or got too crazy I would loudly shout "OW!" And the play would end, and I ignored him and wouldn't look at him. He learned quickly and now you could do nearly anything with him and he wouldn't bite. The only issue he has is with gloves. He doesn't fully see them as hands.

Aww sadly kinda saw the Lobo situation coming. That breed mix can be a challenge even for experienced dog owners. My aunt’s shepherd has the same issue with children. I believe it’s a herding type instinct, as herders often will “nip” to keep their target in line.

Maybe, but shepherds are generally quite loving and protective towards their family, and tend to easily become obedient with proper training. I think the husky part is more problematic, as they're more energetic and less social and trainable.

Thank you for finding him a new home. When I was a kid, my dog bit me out of the blue while I was watching TV and my parents had him put down even though I cried and pleaded. It was an extremely traumatic experience and I felt guilty for years that they had killed him because he attacked me. Your daughter would surely have felt the same way if you had done the same thing, especially if she had accidentally knelt on his paw, so letting him live and rehoming him was the best decision for both her and, of course, the dog.

Yeah, it's kinda baffling to me how Kenan didn't understand that. A beginner with reptiles is not gonna get Croc Monitors as a pet, so why did he as a beginner with dogs get a Husky-Shepherd mix? Doesn't make sense. It is indeed a beautiful breed, but it's not a breed for beginners and there were countless better choices. Sadly Sophia now is left with a traumatic experience and the family might not get another dog ever. Just sad to see.

I’ll admit that I was worried when you got Lobo…..he’s a combo of two working/frequently high prey drive breeds and while y’all are active, I was worried it wouldn’t be enough. I worked with many pups that were sadly dumped at that shelter for reasons similar to what happened w/ Sophie(which I commend you for doing the best thing for your family & Lobo by finding him an appropriate home❤️). Both breeds in Lobo need an extensive amount of daily mental stimulation and physical exercise, but specifically the husky side is known to be mouthy especially when bored. They can be great family dogs for those families whose lives revolve around things like sledding, etc or for those with hobbies like distance running where the pup gets hours of physical exertion daily. I know it must have really scared Sophie but in the overall picture I’d rather it have been this….than something worse. It was obvious that you and your entire family loved Lobo, you did everything you could think of to insure he was happy, healthy & well-trained….it just wasn’t meant to be. I know you are not wanting another dog right now because your heart is hurting and Sophie is scared, may I suggest reaching out to friends to find a few great breeders of L/XL breed dogs that may make a great fit for your family (like Caucasian Shepherds, Irish Wolfhounds, Labradoodles, Bull Mastiffs, etc)and see if they will let you bring Sophie to spend an hour or two just being around the dogs(not forcing interaction but just letting them exist in the same general area and let her watch you/your wife interacting)…..eventually the pups will win her back over. That’s also why I mentioned finding great breeders, their dogs will be well-trained and sound to be around Sophie (it may also help both you and Kate get over what you witnessed). Even assuring Sophie that you have no plans to get another dog but are just going to visit friends, will help to insure she doesn’t go in to the situation without any anxiety. Doing so will also give you an opportunity to note the traits you’d like for your family if you ever decide to get another…..while Lobo wasn’t the right fit, there is a breed out there that would be perfect for exactly what you need(protecting the Kamp while also being a good family dog & faithful friend)…..that’s another reason to get familiar with the breeders, while traits are common with specific breeds….just like people, pups have different personalities and a great breeder will ask enough questions to figure out the best fit for your family❤️

I'm glad Sophie's okay my daughter when she was 3 got bit by my sister-in-law's dog. It left a three inch scar on her cheek. She was skittish around dogs but I took her to PetSmart where she can look at the dogs through the cages and be safe. Then on one trip to Petsmart to look at the dogs. We saw a cocker spaniel dachshund mix or a little cocktail weenie we both fell in love with her. When my husband saw her he fell in love with her. I'm so sorry to hear about Lobo, I can totally understand your decision we had a very similar situation with a pointer we used to own, he had no bitey streak at all, but suddenly one day he attacked by partner, and then tried to stop me getting to her, at the time my partner thought she had woken him suddenly from a nightmare so we gave him a second chance. Sadly a year later on Christmas day he did it again, he suddenly lunged at my partner again and it took three adults to pull him off and my partner ended up in hosital having surgery on her hand. I had to take the hardest decision that day to have him put to sleep, but we just couldn't take the risk he would do it again to someone else, and the Vet believed that as he was a rescue it might have been a form of ptsd, or a form of brain issue. I'm sure Lobo will have a great life, and I hope Sophia keep loving animals as she does.

A heartbreaking decision, yet completely understandable. My husband and I are actually on the other side of the same situation. We recently took in our dog's littermate (his brother) because his dad moved in with his fiance and her two daughters and it was just too chaotic an environment for him with lots of people constantly coming and going. One of the girls came racing in the house after school and he was startled and bit her. It wasn't his first offense either as he had always had some fear aggression, but a line had to be drawn with a child involved. So now he lives with us, where it's just a lot quiter and better for his disposition.

there was a young lady who adopted a atlian shepard puppy(cute little ball of fur) from an animal shelter right up the road from where I used to live. Now from my understanding the shelter is suppose to psych evals on all incoming or out coming animals: I don't know nor can I confirm this happened. but what I do know if that this breed is feed aggressive(to a degree🙄) she left her baby, near it's feed bowl(big mistake on her part) baby placed her hand inside of it while the puppy was eating. the puppy bite the baby's face. she took the baby to the hospital, and by the blessing of God the baby didn't need emergency surgery. the mother brought the report back the shelter, however she didn't say that left the baby unattended she just said the puppy attacked her baby, unprovoked. the case worked, unamused 😒but bewildered 😱by the accident took the puppy back, scheduled it to be euthanized. I called up a friend of mine and had the puppy adopted right out, the mother didn't like that.. she screamed and said the dog will attack babies. I'm like this breed if you read and were informed that has high protective, and feeding drives(of course it will attack while feeding) again if you read the documents before signing the adoption papers. she got another puppy, but she was still mad that other one didn't get euthanized..

Hopefully Lobo will do better in a new environment. I am a retired dog trainer/vet tech. One of our Boston Terriers, Frankie, came to us because he bit a 6 year old in the face, that required stitches (the child tried to yank him off a bed by his rear legs). They were going to euthanize him but we took him instead. Frankie is a wonderful, loving dog. Just in a bad situation. He has a high prey drive and when excited, he tends to nip. I have worked with him, teaching him "no bites", and "settle". He is now able to control his impulses and does very well, even with small children. Some dogs just need the right environment to thrive. I hope this will be the case with Lobo too. I'm glad you found him a new home instead of euthanizing him. I'm glad everyone is ok, and that you guys didn't hesitate to make the hard but correct decision. Dogs are wonderful, but not every dog is a great fit for a family. My suggestion if you guys decide to search for another dog, don't focus on it being a guard dog. What you really want is an alert dog, one that will make lots of noise when they hear something amiss, and alert you to things going on. Most breeds will do this well, so focus on a dog that fits in well with a family lifestyle, and that will do well in your environment. Huskies and GSDs are two of the breeds with the highest % of wolf in them, and are more high energy and high strung. Great dogs for what they were bred for, but not always a great fit for a family. Thanks for making the video sharing with us what happened, I know that only made it harder having to address it to your community, and I'm sorry for your family's loss. Still not easy even knowing he's in a good home that fits him better.

Super happy you have tree crocs again. Can't wait to see you build trust and relations with them, female in with Chase is going to make you work for her affection. Tough situation with Lobo, there's no right decision, but you're the family protector so you and Kate can make the tough decisions to keep everyone including yourself safe. 8 years ago I had to make a similar decision, my rednose pitbull Kaine, my absolute favorite dog ever, was great for me when I was single and living on my own, once I got married and kids, he wasn't having it... decisions were made and life goes on, but I think of him every day still. I miss that dam dog so much but my role as protector always comes 1st. No matter how I feel.

Also the kids need to be trained. A sleeping dog on his place has to be left alone by the kids and many dogs dont like to be hugged. There are dogs who tolerate everything, but thats not the rule. A lot of people will say that "you just need to work with lobo more" or "you trained him wrong". The problem is, that involves keeping him around the child whose face he bit, and a chance of similar events happening in the interim until the behaviour is correct, if ever. Sometimes it's just not worth it, like Kenan said, happens to another kid next week and camp goes bye bye, not fair on Sophia either. I think there's plenty of better choices of dog down the line too, look at say a doberman from a non-working line, sure to scare away the bravest of intruder, but also the most genuine and intelligent couch lounging family dog.

I'm glad Sophia is ok! Sounds like Lobo had an unstable genetic temperament which isn't surprising considering the two breeds he is, they're not complementary at all. And cross/mix breed dogs temperaments will always be a gamble. As a trainer and owner myself, that's never a mix I'd advise getting for a family. I'm glad you did what was best not just for you and family but for Lobo too. I know it's not easy, I've seen it in my clients often enough. You're a strong person for accepting it needed to be done. Much respect to you Kenan. Perhaps, in the future when you are ready for a dog, maybe consider purchasing a fully trained home/property protection dog that's purebred, I highly recommend a German Shepherd or Rottweiler, yes they are pricey but I can tell you they are beyond worth it. I think what your doing is tough but, understandable. Something important to be noted is that dogs don't like to be hugged. Thing is, the kids hugged Lobo every night for six months. If it was the hug specifically, it would have happened six months ago instead of a week or so ago. It was most likely the kneeling on the hind paw, but the issue is that Lobo drew blood.

@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim I understand that however, just because an animal tolerates something that doesn't mean they like it. The point isn't to push threshold until your dog or other animal snaps. Often dogs will lick their lips or turn their heads when being hugged by people especially kids before resorting to more escalated behaviors. A accurate depiction I seen of canine communicative behaviors is it's like a ladder. If you keep ignoring the warning signals eventually you will burn more and more of the ladder. Until the dog learns that it can not use subtle signals to communicate with you that it does not like or want to do something.

Hey Kenan 🌻 I really hope Sofia is feeling better and healing well. I'm so sorry this happened:( This may help her: When I was 8 yrs old, I was bitten in the face by a dog (it healed great. Small scars but im good). I was really scared of dogs for awhile. Any dog that barked, scared me. Even tiny chihuahuas!! Lol But I did get over it. 💗 It took time and patience, but it happened 😊 I love all animals... well, 4 legs or less 🤣 And realized I didn't want to be afraid of something that I love. So I learned to accept that anything with a mouth can bite and it's not the animals fault. Sometimes, it's just life and things go wrong. Sofia loves animals lol and my best hopes are that living on the farm means she's already learning that fear has no place in her life cuz she wants to help look after the animals more, as best she can 💗🐾 All my love and best wishes to you and your family.

Just found this video. Dogs are hard. Especially when you have the more stubborn natural breeds. I have a Samoyed being trained as a service dog, I and my trainers did everything right to train a well rounded animal and to prevent major behavior issues. Yet still my pup is a bite risk in certain situations. (Most dogs grow out of it after a few years and after being fixed.) but the reality is a dog’s nature is to communicate with their mouth. When my dog is really tired and is asleep or half asleep he has to be separated / crated to prevent a bad situation from any little ones. He still can snap into resource guarding at the most unexpected times. He can play too hard and suddenly make a bad decision with his teeth. Is fearful situation, he will bite this includes if he is being traditionally corrected. He is still a pup and likely will grow out of all of this with continued training but as a responsible owner I will never trust him is certain situations and therefore I will always protect him from being in those situations for the rest of his life just for safety. Lobo seemed very similar to my pup and I imagine the situation occurred because he was over tired from his long day of play. But I will never trust my dog 100% not to bite someone in all situations and this is another reason why crates are such a powerful tool for dogs. Some dogs especially in puppyhood for the first 2 years are just not able to be free roaming family dogs. I am glad everyone is safe and I hope Sophia learns to understand dogs aren’t bad or scary and lobo was just a puppy that made a bad choice in a state of startle/fear. It definitely wasn’t anyone’s fault, not lobo’s, not Sophia’s, not yours. Yes, it likely could have been prevented, but everyone did the best they knew how at the time. And ultimately everyone is and will be okay. It’s sad but rehoming was no harm no foul, and thank you for not doing anything worse to the pup.

I grew up with dogs my entire life and I'll be honest, I'm not surprised this happened. Lobo was never an obedient dog from what I saw and Kenan you didn't discipline that dog they way he needed. Dogs like huskys and shepherds aren't pets, they're working animals. When they have no task to complete, they'll often misbehave out of pure boredom. Dogs need to submit to a strong 'master'. If you don't present yourself in that way and you don't discipline your dog correctly they are a ticking time bomb. Unfortunately I think your training style is too passive and weak. Lobo needed a strong source of discipline in order to submit. Maybe a golden retriever would be a better choice.

What I think is interesting is that often times it’s the smaller breeds who tend to be more bitey and aggressive (small dog complex much?) yet more often than not if someone is afraid of dogs, it’s the larger ones that scare them. I have been bitten in the face (right eye) by a cocker spaniel and in the chest (right breast) by a medium-sized mixed breed dog but I have no fear of them at all, unless it’s a confirmed aggressive dog like the one who keeps breaking his chain and attacking neighborhood animals and chasing people but Animal Control refuses to do anything about it. It’s just fascinating to me how the human brain works when it comes to things like that. 🤷‍♀️
