There is no de-escalation “discussion” in my region regarding school shooting threats.We had a kid in a town 30 miles from here make a comment about shooting up his school. Kid was hauled into the regional Juvenile Detention within hours. No committee meeting. Same day service.

I had a kid (19) who was disrupting class and saying how eventually he would kill someone and go to big boy jail like his dad. I threw him out of class and an administrator brought him back. He went on to kill an old lady and is in prison. Take your soft talk and stick it. I retired.

The parents now split on their son that cried out for help, literally writing "HELP ME" They "USED" their son, "TAUGHT" their son how to use a semi automatic weapon as a minor, that they "the adult PARENTS BOUGHT HIM", then told him "DON'T DO IT" and "SHOULDN'T GET CAUGHT", now split, while their minor boy faces adult prison and as of now are fugitives, speaks volumes! What lead up to this in THAT HOME with that Mother and Father in charge of and responsible for their child, prior to this heinous act? The boy was in dire need of mental illness help WAY before this day happened. Sounds like the Mother set her son up to fail, by corrupting him mentally. Children are a product of their environment and the parents/adults raising them. Who knows what these parents were doing or teaching, even pushing their son up to this, in order to carry out this tragedy. Them running, now being fugitives, tells a lot!

It's not complicated. You go to school to learn. If you don't want to learn, we'll work with you and get you the help you need. However, if you are so disruptive that other students can't learn, then you are gone. You've lost your opportunity. You don't have the right to take away other people's rights. Your parents can homeschool you until you're ready to come back with a different mindset.

Question. What are you specifically referring to by "get you the help you need?" Personally I think most kids need legitimate mentors. Teachers cannot really fill that role due to the amount of kids under their leadership. I'm afraid you mean "punishment and oppression until there is compliance and submission."
@InteriorDesignStudent

That's not a good idea either. You're forcing parents to stop working, which places a financial strain on the entire family. Plus you're requiring unqualified people to educate a troubled student. A lot of us do not have the training to teach our special needs kids.

Schools should not be blamed for students who are troubled. Schools are not a babysitting service. Parents have to be held accountable. Schools provide education. Did they not check his social media? I have two teens with phones & I have Spyware on their devices...I can see every keystroke, every account, every word said. Another one of the failed policies of the Obama Administration was the Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline, that was quickly suppressed by the media after Parkland school shooting in Florida. another thing quickly buried was the fact that 99% of school shootings are results of mental health professionals prescribing psychotropic drugs to children with behavioral issues, that have side effects ranging from headaches, suicide and homicidal thoughts but because of the kickbacks given to doctors from pharmaceutical companies and advertising dollars received from the media along with political contributions from Big Pharma mental health professionals are protected and never have to answer for their decisions and they will quickly point the finger towards the NRA

In my personal opinion and experience school systems around us in Michigan aren't doing enough to keep our kids safe nor is the community even though we are told to teach our children to watch out for each, stand up to bullies, reach out to teachers, see something say something, those things don't actually work unless u actually do something to provide those students help and support, it's been almost two months since my 11, & 15 yrs were at a local Wendy's after a half day at their schools when a group of other highschoolers about 6-7 of them started harassing my 11yr old throw stuff they found on the floor at his head than calling him names so his 15 yr sibling stood up and told the kids to leave him alone that it's not kol, which the group didn't like so they got up in their face which lead my child to tell them they were too close and they tried to push them away not feeling safe my kids than tried to do the right thing and leave the situation and call me to come get them I wasn't able to get to my phone fast enough by the time they were able to try again the group had surrounded them and were threatening them by the end of it I had an 11yr on the spectrum now with a black eye and a 15 yr having a massive panic attack and the other kids were gone by the time I arrived, I contacted the school and the police, had to take my kids back to the Wendy's in order to talk to the cops, we have been working with the school and the police and nothing absolutely nothing has come from it both my teens now have PTSD and anxiety just going to learn everyday, schools need to focus on making sure kids feel safe to learn not worry about the bad kids acting out still having the same opportunity to learn in the building they can learn outside the building or be transferred to a different school maybe that would teach them that their behavior isn't welcome or tolerated because until they finally learned that lesson there's no way they're going to stop doing what they're doing to other children they don't care what they're doing and that's the shame they just continue what they're doing once you suspending them for a day or two they come right back they do exactly what they've been doing they haven't learned anything because they have to go home for a few days and relax and play video games or whatever else they're doing these kids are back in the building making fun of other kids picking on other kids giving people dirty looks in the back of classroom and no one cares so after all the things that happened in other schools then they wanted to reach out and say we care about your students we Care well if you cared you would do something before these events happen this is my personal opinion after dealing with these kind of experiences myself not up for debate don't care about your opinion about it it's the truth and I'm allowed to speak by truth

Police always say, “If you see or hear something report it.” 4 years ago a kid threatened to shoot kids at my son’s school. I reported it. They went to his house and relayed to me that the kid was only kidding and nothing was done. No real action. I may have saved the kids at that school, but what bothers me is they did nothing and pursued nothing. What bothers me is the kid was a cop’s son. What if the kid did go and shoot up the school because they did nothing? The cops need to take action regardless of joke or not and parents need to take action and talk to their children so they can feel ok to report what they hear at school or see on social media.

They did. Oxford has a history of neglecting common knowledge and then that neglect causing the death of students. My sophomore year of high school three girls died in a car crash due to poor road conditions in the winter. They had been making kids go to school all week and s***** conditions in a county with very many dirt roads. Also many people come from Pontiac to go to Oxford schools. That's where the three girls were coming from one of them was pregnant. The mother of the pregnant girl was the one driving she survived and for the rest of her life she has to live with accidentally having killed her daughter, her unborn grandchild, and her neighbors two children. All because Oxford thought one day of learning was more important than kid's live's

@6:35 "we'll learn lessons from this," ...no, you won't--law enforcement is intrinsically opposed to learning. institutionally, claiming ignorance secures the unbound freedom of police (and, really, all public servants), to act with impunity. in fact, the more aggregious or complex the act, the less they are held accountable, due to the assumption of ignorance of the criminal nature of their action, based on lack of notice. This translates to an inverse relationship such that greater ignorance is rewarded with reductions (immunity) of accountability. bestowed upon police by judicial ruling aka Qualified Immunity, this phenomenon is institutional because QI creates a separate class, police, who are protected/shielded from liability and prosecution for any criminal acts, as long as police can be equated to ignorant by the absence of well established, even precedential, caselaw at the circuit level applicable to the jurisdiction of their employment.
