Hey everyone, welcome back to another video! This day, Rachel, Melissa, Ben and I shot offshore looking for tuna and dorado. The weather was not on our side as the forecast was a little off. We were met with wind and cloudy conditions but we stuck it out and had a great time on the water.
Once we were home and the parker was cleaned up, we cut the fish and had some delicious sushi!

I have a great recipe for my Kona Star Tuna Club sandwich. Let me find it and I'll post it for you. Kona Star is the name of my boat. .

THE KONA STAR ULTIMATE TUNA CLUB SANDWICH Ingredients (for 4): 4 fresh tuna steaks 1 cup Italian salad dressing (Bernstein's Wine Country or other premium type) 4 large hamburger buns or gourmet rolls 8 pineapple rings (canned) 8 slices bacon mixed greens or lettuce basil aioli (recipe included in text) Large tuna loin - cut a 1 inch thick steak. For smaller tuna cut a 2 inch thick steak - butterfly the steak making it double in size to fit the bun. Make the basil aioli dressing - mix together (in a non-reactive container - plastic or glass) 6 tablespoons premium mayonnaise, 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped FRESH basil, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon olive oil, salt and pepper. Store covered in refrigerator while you prepare the other sandwich components so the flavours meld. In a non-reactive bowl mix 1-2 tablespoons of juice from the pineapple rings to the Italian salad dressing. Marinade the pineapple rings (2 per sandwich) in the mixture for 15 minutes. Cook bacon (2 slices per sandwich) till crisp, drain on paper towels, set aside. Remove pineapple rings and add tuna to marinade for 15 minutes. Grill the pineapple rings on preheated grill - about 2 minutes per side to get nice grill marks. Remove from grill and set aside. Grill the tuna on well-oiled grill (2 minutes per side-more or less depending on preference - I prefer cooked thruj rather than raw middle). While tuna is grilling, lightly toast the inner sides of the buns (1-2 minutes) under a broiler. Build the sandwich - spread the aioli on each half of the toasted bun ( 1/2 to 3/4 tablespoon per side). Place two slices bacon on bottom, then the tuna steak, add two pineapple rings, top with the greens or lettuce, bun top. Serve with potato salad or chips, pickle and a light white wine or pale ale. Prepare for nirvana - Eat. .

Amazing video, this 30-40 lb fish is surprisingly strong for its size. Your fishing skills and cooking skills are top-notch. We got a few the very next day on the 21st in the same area.

Good to see you have an ice slurry in your fish bag but disappointed you don't first bleeed out your fish. makes a huge difference in the quality of the meat! edit - I see you commented about this when fileting the fish. Only takes a second to cut the gills before placing into the kill bag.) .

We definitely always bleed our fish, I just don't always record it. But you are right it is important!

10:00 -- What happened to the gal? Couldn't quite understand you. Something about the leverdrag burning her finger? What was the clicker supposed to do? I'm new to leverdrags too and appreciate the help.

Yea she got bit when it was in free spool so it backlashed and threw a loop of braid around her thumb. Luckily she was able to slide it off without the line digging in, only burned her a bit. With the clicker on when you get bit it won't backlash like that. She just couldn't figure out how to engage the reel right away

@@fluentfishing -- Thanks for explaining. Was she fly lining a sardine? With the clicker on can the sardine still swim around freely? I was taught (when fly lining a sardine) to turn clicker off, put in free spool, cast sardine away from boat as far you can, then let sardine swim around in free spool with your thumb lightly on the spool to prevent backlash (but release thumb immediately when you're bit so the spinning spool doesn't burn you). Is this correct?

Ya she was free spool letting it swim out but on a plunker bite you are doing a very long soak. So you get to a point where the bait is far enough away and nose hooked where you just put the clicker on and wait. The drifting boat keeps pulling it making it look like its swimming naturally. She got bit and hasnt quite mastered the lightly thumbing part yet so it backlashed. @@jake9705

Went out on the 14th for the first time out of Dana… my son and I drove around the 14 mile bank and did some Patty hopping but did not have any luck. The fleet was there as well, but they did not look like they were having luck either. It seems like the action with near Oceanside. Did you guys head down south as well?

What would you recommend for a rod and reel combo for the socal fishing you mainly do on your channel?
@jayfron6012
@jayfron6012 11 ай бұрын
This is a tough question! I just was going through looking for my first setup with my tackle shop, and it was a 1.5 hr affair of discussing what I’ll be fishing, where to start and where to go after. I got a rod and reel that would do me well on trips up to 1.5 days, but more on the 1 day train. It’ll be for yellowtail and then tuna up to 60lbs, or local halibut/rockfish. Ideally you want a couple of setups to take on anything past a day in case you need something big for big fish, or lighter tackle for shy fish and smaller tuna

A solid starter set up for generally any fishing in socal would be a torium 16 or 20 with an 8ft medium heavy teramar rod.
