Given both of your loves of bottom fishing, you should check out the gulf coast of mainland FL for an episode! Some of the best grouper and amberjack fishing out there; a trip out to the Elbow or Middle Grounds would be sweet to watch. If you want something unique, wintertime fishing for big gags up in Crystal River would be sick to see. You can fish rock piles in 6-10 ft of water with shallow diving plugs and topwaters to catch some quality groupers on artificial. Loving the show and the new season is off to great start!

Ali,,, If possible in one of your tackle room videos would you just focus on "planer" fishing. One of your complete dissection on ALL the gear & sizes to start covering the spectrum of planer fishing. Got a good handle on what to do but think one your videos on the subject would be great. Thanks/tight lines,,,, Believe planer trolling & slow pitch jigging both to be tops for plain o'l meat fishing.

We usually pull the big Nomads using our International 20 and 30 VISXs. You need the added drag pressure to troll at 9-12 mph.

Did you tie the mono right onto the lure if so how many lbs mono do you use
@LocalKnowledge
@LocalKnowledge 5 ай бұрын
Yep. A short shot of 200# mono gets more bites than wire for us. With the big lures you rarely get bit off.

Was that just a straight fluoro leader? Didn’t see any wire on there. If so, how’d you rig it? Great episode!
@LocalKnowledge
@LocalKnowledge 2 жыл бұрын
With the bigger Nomads you can run a heavy mono leader and not have to worry (too much) about bite offs. The lures are so big they can't get to the leader.

He's right, you don't "pump", you could but most people drop the line so fast they make slack, rather than keeping the bend in the rod as they SLOWLY drop the rod. Best is to just winch em slowly and carefully after that first blistering run. These are not tuna, they don't have that much wind, the firs run in unreal, then they run out of steam. They keep the boat in gear to keep the line tight, head thrusts at the last minute can tear em off.
@LocalKnowledge
@LocalKnowledge 3 жыл бұрын
This is true of any fish. No swing, no pump. Keep pressure. Make tacos. :)
@jimquantic
@jimquantic 3 жыл бұрын
@@LocalKnowledge No pumping, ever? Not sure most people could agree with that. Just use the reel as a winch--don't think so, that would defeat the purpose of the rod.

Yo why was that reel on free spool?
@DiabetoDan
@DiabetoDan 3 жыл бұрын
When the wahoo hit? Wasn't on freespool, just light drag. If the drag is too heavy the hooks/lure just get yanked out of the fish's mouth on the strike. Need to have some forgiveness/stretch via a light drag and mono or fluorocarbon leader, that way they can strike, turn, and you have a better chance at getting a proper hookset.
@maum2759
@maum2759 3 жыл бұрын
@@DiabetoDan thanks mate, yeah sorry i meant light drag. But by the looks of it seemed too light of a drag.
@DiabetoDan
@DiabetoDan 3 жыл бұрын
@@maum2759 if you're trolling in open water, not much harm in having super light drag and letting the fish run. You can always tighten it as needed. Going too tight risks you losing the fish, so light is a better option than heavy drag. Not a universal rule obviously, if you were fishing near heavy structure you'd want to go with a heavy drag to prevent the fish running in and breaking you off.
@sickbugz
@sickbugz 3 жыл бұрын
Different strokes for different folks i guess, i like 20 lbs of drag for hoos. They have a super hard mouth and i find i lose a lot of fish with lighter drag because i never get a hookset
@DiabetoDan
@DiabetoDan 3 жыл бұрын
@@sickbugz you'd likely know better than me, I don't do much wahoo fishing at all. Just going by what I do for kingfish trolling.
