One of my friends got scammed out of 6500. He had made a deposit of 4000 just a few days prior. His theory is that bankers are in on the scams. How do scammers find their victims? How do they know which victims have a lot in the bank? I don’t know but I find it weird how scammers always get lucky with people who have a lot in the bank.

I have "won" so many sweepstakes I never entered I could wallpaper my walls with the notices. I don't enter sweepstakes, but they will have you think you were automatically entered into them from some place or another. Be in doubt. Share the information with a relative, the local police, or someone you trust before even talking to them again, and NEVER send money. If you have won all this money, they can deduct the fees from what you have won. If they insist that is not how it works, you hang up. Better yet, if you don't know who it is, don't talk to them to begin with.

Sad thing is, this was stupidity, knowing better then doing something you already suspect is fraud is the very definition of stupidity, but in his defense, we all get dumb as we age; we feel lonely, become isolating, and someone on the phone can bring an element of excitement to life that's sometimes too overpowering to resist, and the fact that the scammers are very successful keeps them phishing in 'our' waters. Thanks for sharing your story, it's embarrassing to open yourself up like this, but we all benefited from seeing it!!!
