I've only become interested in hunting along with my son over the last couple years because I didn't come from a hunting/firearm family. But since I've started watching your videos (due to my sons recommendation), I've grown a huge respect for you and the lessons you teach. Life is hard work, along with rough days. Its about excitement and disappointment, lessons learned, and forgotten. Its about growing as a person, while still having the ability to stay small. I've seen you grow as a hunter and person since I started watching. I look forward to having as many of these experiences as I can with my son. Thanks for the content

This has to be my favorite episode, it shows the reality of true hunting for most people. I hunt public land (which most of us do) and you really get to learn the nature of other hunters and how to play the "game". Sure it sucks some years, you go home empty handed most of the time, but at the end of the day, 90% of the time we are out there.. just to be out there. Cheers to all the hunters who find their peace in sitting for hours on end. Better luck next year, and here's to getting that wall mount!

I always carry an extra base layer in my pack. It’s so fast and easy to just get out of that sweaty shirt and get a dry one next to my skin. Well worth the weight in my pack and saves me nearly every climb when I’m elk hunting. In warm early season weather I carry a washcloth that’s very wet and a lil scent free liquid soap in a ziplock back to reach under my shirt and wipe off after a hot hike. Very refreshing and I think keeps my scent down some. Also great for cleaning my hands after a gut job. Love your videos and your show Steve!!

Everywhere you go theres a truck parked and a bunch of dudes both infront and behind you, and youl be lucky if they hunt legally and dont offroad with their truck and go well into private. Alot of folks dont respect the law around here sadly, appreciate seeing those who do. Beautiful country though, and great video as always!

Don’t move here and then complain about people who’ve been hunting here for years. It’s obnoxious to whine about people doing exactly what you are. Also don’t try to pretend that Montanans are a bunch of criminals, of course there are idiots everywhere that can ruin things but you’ve got no idea who’s got permission to go where as much public land as there is there is also plenty of private. As far as “too many people” or whatever don’t go to all the popular spots and you’re gonna see less people. 4th biggest state in the US and very low population density there are spots to get a good hunt in.

Duck hunting and Turkey hunting in California on public land is no joke, most places are overrun with people. You have to walk many, many miles, or know someone with private property to kill lots of game in CA. Or spend lots of $$$ for clubs and such. It's not what you know fellas, but who you know.

A tip for people hunting by winter. Wear several thinner layers (2-3) of wool, with an inner layer of (what I use) a sort of chain-mail woll shirt and pants in the same knitting (lots of holes). Makes essentially a layer of air against your body so no sticky, wet cloths touch you. If you need to move a fair distance, remove your jacket (put it in or across your backpack), remove or wrap up your hat/beanie so it only covers the top of your head. You usually will have no problem staying comfortably warm while moving, just adapt the layers you remove to the temperature, including your gloves so they dont get wet from sweat and the neckwarmer (if you use it). It will make it easier for your body to cool your nut. The key is to not get so warm you sweat an avoidable amount. Then, let your sweat steam of you when you stop and put the jacket back on after. If its like colder than -12 to -15 celsius (arround 5-10 fahrenheit) pack an extra fat wool sweater to put on as a last layer under you windproof jacket when you are ready to put your cloths back on to scout at your lookout spot. And if its too cold to walk without gloves, bring an extra pair, just some thin wool/fleece gloves to walk with, so your real warm ones stay dry. A tip from Scandinavia where we often hunt in -4 fahrenheit (-20 celsius) to the interwebs.

You are a true hunter. You worked hard each day and you were able to enjoy some pretty amazing sites. You also were able to enjoy the elk in their natural surroundings. Another fact is that you followed the rules for hunting and killing a legal elk. Around 100 years ago when the Natives were free to live in these areas there would have been elk by the thousands. Hunting would not have taking a long time. And, the views which you were able to enjoy with no interruptions from others, made your daily trips a once in a lifetime experience. You may not have taken an elk, but you sure did have a great time trying to get one, except for 6 degrees below zero temperatures which you had to endure. You really had a great time. Just think, in a few more years you will experience a super amazing event. You and your son hunting and fishing together. You have so many first still to look forward to. God Bless

I love how your videos are so honest by the way of honestly portraying the way hunting really goes and by that meaning that every hunt doesn't end in success like someone would watch on ESPN Outdoors or any other outdoor channel. 🤙💯

this reminds me of Thanksgiving day pheasant hunting. In nj pheasant are stocked in just a few spots so they get insane. Makes me want to just jump in a vat of hunter orange paint so i don't get shot, and then it'd still be a risk
