If you soak the pasta first in cold water for 1-2 hours, depending on the type of the pasta; you can boil them for 2-3 minutes just like freshly made pasta. Less money to spend on energy. You can even microwave them

You can also pre soak pasta in cold water for an hour and a half, then chuck it in boiling water for 60 seconds. Saves time cooking the stuff.
@LocalAromas Жыл бұрын
If boiling pasta passively turns many Italians off, I think the soaking would be considered unacceptable. 🫢😜
@jeffreybarton1297 Жыл бұрын
@@LocalAromas Yes 😄 Not only that, I tried it yesterday for the First time (I saw the tip on KZbin). It takes longer than an hour and a half. It took a good 2 and a half to soften up. I think my pasta was pretty thick. I also had to simmer it for 5 minutes rather than 60 seconds. So not much of a tip really 😊

I've been cooking pasta this way for years. I learned about how the heat cooks the pasta and that the boiling actually cooks off the nutrients in the pasta. Personally, I prefer the pasta's taste when not boiled.

What if you just put them in cold water for an extended amount of time? With Asian noodles such as Ramen that works! Very interested in trying it!

@@LocalAromas I’ve seen @Saucestache soak pasta for 2 hrs in cold water, then drain and rinse it really well before mixing in a loose hot pasta sauce, after a couple mins he sauce thickens and the noodles are amazing. I bet they do it similarly in Asia, using broth for ramen

I am going to do this from now on! Fantastic tip for the world in this energy crisis. I'll bet it will work with compotes as well. I agree leaving for an extra 30 secs before the gas is turned off is possibly a good idea. I will need to ensure my lid has no holes to release steam though...

This is awesome. Thank you. Question: Is it possible to cook pasta by steaming it as you would vegetables? I'd love to see this demonstrated.
@LocalAromas6 ай бұрын
No. Dry pasta needs to be rehydrated. So it needs to be cooked in a lot of water to absorb the water, swell, and cook. 😊
@AnotherPlanetsHell6 ай бұрын
@@LocalAromas I've heard of steaming pasta, but it's not really steaming-you just put pasta into a water bath and cook it in the oven. I really wanted to learn about genuinely steamed pasta, but I guess it doesn't exist. 😭😁

Sure! But a little salt in the cooking water makes the pasta taste better. You can omit the salt, though, if you want.

Yeah, but what is water ratio to weight of dry pasta?
@LocalAromas5 ай бұрын
It needs a lot of water. Technically for 100g of pasta you should use 1 liter of water. I use a little less water but still plenty.
@queenofspeights Жыл бұрын
You can do that with eggs too! I will try pasta next.

You're mad. Egg noodles only need a 35 min soak in cold or room temp water. The. Drain them and throw into a wok at correct temp. They won't stick then
@queenofspeights Жыл бұрын
@@MichaelJoseph-vb5ml I wasn’t talking about egg noodles!!!! I said eggs! You can boil water with the eggs and then turn off the stove, put a lid on and let stand for 7-10 min, depending on your desired yolk firmness.
