Exactly I'm a good skater or maybe great. But I asked another super good skater about my foot position for a tre flip because I was insecure about it and he said you can do it anyway you want if it works.

Hard disagree. He does that cause that’s what’s comfortable to him. Everyone has different bone structures so foot positions will vary. I thought we learned this concept already?

Nah this is new to me. That’s very good to know about the bone structure thing though. I do tricks like pop shuvits with different foot positioning than other people do, so this makes sense, never though of it like that.

I've done this with heel flips and kick flips. I found it more important to kick fast and let the board rise up into my foot. I don't put any energy into flipping the board, it spins easily from the board hitting my foot rather than trying to put my foot into flipping the board Edit: I've even put my foot almost facing completely forward. This helps get a faster kick which seems more important than power

I also studied yutos kickflip and got a lot more consistent. my takeaway was that I need to focus on rolling my front foot so I'm doing the flick with the top of the toe cap on the grip tape instead of flicking it with the corner or the side of the shoe. once I started doing it this way i've been landing them more often and they're getting higher off the ground. Watch Filipe Mota too his kickflips are just as fire

Felipe actually taught me them no lie. I didn’t know who he was. I just thought he was some 15 year old. I Havnt caught up with any new skaters so I had no clue. But what your saying is 100% key. And also making sure that your front knee doesn’t go any higher once you start flicking. If you look at yutoknee it never goes up higher once he starts the flick.

This is not entirely accurate. What you’re saying perfectly describes the shot of you & your feet at the end of the video. Yuto’s footwork is different. He starts at a 45 but quickly rotates to a 90 before flipping. This allows him more drag. The same scenario which you are suggesting he avoids. In reality, he drags at a 90° angle to get a lot of drag and height, which then allows his foot to flip with more power outwardly than most. Giving him both better height and flip speed. It’s hard to see and understand this, because it happens so fast.

I've been kickfliping like this for years. It helped me become consistent and keep them leveled. It Also makes double flips easier as well when you bring your flicking foot closer to your popping foot. I 100% agree with this video but I'm ultra biased.

Used to do that all the time and was told to change it because it did "not look good." Spent a long time trying to learn to do kickflips with the least foot angle possible. Does not work. Skateboarding is not about conformance, but rather, unique expression and that includes the way one does their tricks.

Idk, I put my foot basically completely flat with my toes almost to the other side of the board and I won a kickflip contest once. You can get a really good pop and flick that way. I think people just do what comes most natural to them. Usually when people angle their foot like Yuto, the board will kind of rocket.

The real answer to this question is “because he’s done a shitload of kickflips” there’s so many different ways to a kickflip In terms of foot placement but really the key to doing them consistently is if you skate a lot and do a lot of kickflips it’s that simple

This is how I kickflip as well, maybe not as exaggerated but I hang my foot off a bit, I think a lot of skaters who started young kickflips like that too because that's how I did it as a kid, I have more of my foot on the board these days, but just enough to have control over it, and I make sure to flick off of the nose so it gets that dip
