LOCALS: Inside the Thrilling World of the Fighting Game Community

LOCALS is a project I'm working on for the Indonesia FGC. The Indonesia FGC scene is full of stories, among which are fantastic. And what better way to kick off the documentary with my hometown of Surabaya. Not only do I understand how Surabaya became the Tekken hub, but I also understand how they shaped the Indonesian Tekken Scene. Although one of those involved in the industry has passed away, his influence continues.
There are others who have a strong enthusiasm for fighting games and also dedicate themselves to the FGC, not just Tekken only. From TO's to Booth convention, their dedication put the FGC Indonesia on the map.

Memang sih, rata-rata game figthing terkenal di Indo adalah Tekken. Ane pertama kali kenal Tekken itu lewat Tekken 3 di PS1. Tapi berkat Tekken juga, Ane jadi kenal Figthing game dan bisa kenal judul lain Figthing game selain Tekken.

Tips for newcomers: never get too invested in any of the communities here in the FGC. You'll lose braincells and you'll end up hating the fanbases. Seriously, so many ppl especially in Tekken act like children and they ask too much like the graphics not being the same as the reveal trailer or characters looking "ugly" or "too perfect". These mfs can't shut up and enjoy the damn games. Aint like everything have to be absolutely perfect because there will always be flaws no matter where you look. Hoaever, there are some cases where the complaints are valid but theres always going to ppl who makes even the smallest of things a big problem. Its fcking ridiculous. So please for the love of God do NOT get into the FGC communities and just enjoy whichever fighting games you like.
