THE LEGEND IS ACTUALLY DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE: COMPLETING A SERIES ON THE ENNEAGRAM 💀
@tsunamiscientist56824 күн бұрын
Steven Universe as a character, especially during Future, is a very good illustration of what can happen when Twos aren't needed anymore. For the entire five seasons that made up the original show, Steven basically fulfills the same role his mother did in his family system. He is everyone's shoulder to cry on, and he's the one who always forces the Gems to resolve their conflict with each other when he's *13*. But then, Steven Universe ends, and everyone's character arcs are basically completed. The Gems are healthy enough that they really don't have conflict with each other that often. In theory, this should make Steven happy. But it doesn't. The thing that Future spends its entire runtime on is the consequences of Steven's parentification. He spent his entire childhood forcing his parental figures to sort their shit out, and when they do, he doesn't feel needed anymore. Steven sees problems where there aren't any to get back that feeling of being needed. After watching this video, I'm pretty sure I'm a Two. Here's another idea for a problem your Two has: they can be very insistent about you solving your problems. A lot of Twos are very good at presenting advice in a way that you can take, but some aren't. Some Twos can be very blunt about exactly what your problems are, especially if they're not very healthy. This can lead to the unhealthy people they're giving advice to being very reticent to take it. As Lucas pointed out, this can be very upsetting for Twos. They can get very angry about you being ungrateful for their advice because they are convinced it is correct. This kind of Two needs to learn that the presentation of their advice can matter as much as the content. EDIT: I’m pretty sure I’m a 1w2 now. Maybe apply this to 1’s more than 2’s. Steven is definitely a 2, though.

*If they're toxic
@themindfulmoron379023 күн бұрын
The point about self esteem is interesting to me, because I always had a blend of both high self esteem and extremely low self esteem. I spent a large portion of my childhood being constantly nitpicked, criticised, and insulted, and so I did everything I could to make myself extra likable just to stop the feeling of inadequacy and I hated myself the whole way through it. The further into my childhood I got, the more verbally aggressive I'd be with myself. I genuinely believed I deserved to die horribly. But I also saw myself as a bit of a savior, making masks (other ways of presenting myself) to suit the taste of each person or to adapt the situation. Being an autistic two led me to basically create personalities wherever I went, because I saw myself as a sort of charismatic soft-boy lone wanderer. "Oh of course, tell me your secrets, I'll comfort you, as long as I get the satisfaction of making you smile at the end..." Anything to prove to myself that I was supporting other people, that I mattered to them. I'd get them to like me, and eventually sometimes even get them to need me. It's a very toxic mindset, and despite how good I am at navigating social situations now, I don't recommend this to anyone. This is another element of the 2 type that I'd like to see more as well, the shapeshifter 2. I lived a fairly inauthentic life for a long time until my fake altruism became real altruism. Now I get to keep the "skill" of masking I've developed but use it responsibly to navigate life and help people with more care and awareness.
@ambivertreader23 күн бұрын
Type 2s are my favorite type to write, especially when they don’t act like 2s. For instance, Dean Winchester from Supernatural is an excellent example of a type 2 masking as a different type. Dean grew up trying to earn his father’s love, and part of earning that love was acting exactly like his father. His father is a type 8, so Dean often exhibits type 8 behavior especially when interacting with people he doesn’t know or trust. Most of Dean’s arcs throughout the show are concerned with Dean not feeling deserving of love, trying to care for the people he loves, or resenting the people he loves because they won’t let him care for them. The only thing about him that isn’t two-coded is that he doesn’t hide behind niceties. Sometimes he can be downright cruel, but he justifies it with the same excuse, “It’s for your own good”. In the book I’m working on, there is a 2 character who wholeheartedly believes that his worst fear - being unloved and unlovable - is reality. But he still tries to earn love even though he thinks he’ll never succeed, because the coping mechanism is all he has left. He’s like a windup toy that keeps trying to walk even when he hits a wall. He’s a highly self-destructive character in the beginning, but once he starts believing he deserves love, he becomes a more typically toxic type 2 who lashes out when his love isn’t reciprocated. Eventually, he finds a balance between the two dysfunctional extremes, but it’s fun to explore how the pendulum swings.

Another great example of a 2 in a current show is Ragatha from The Amazing Digital Circus. She's utterly dedicated to making everyone else around her feel good and safe, despite the utterly bleak position they're in, to the point of straight-up dishonesty in the face of horror. No other line exemplifies her 2ness as well as a line from the latest episode: "I hate you, but I don't want you to hate me. Is that weird?"
@jazzyethecrimefighter23 күн бұрын
Also when pomni is talking to gumigoo, ragatha is slightly resentful. “She would rather hang out with an npc than with us”, she feels like pomni isn’t exactly reciprocating the love and attention she’s given her and it upsets her to see pomni give that to someone else instead of her
@dorotejavukoje85423 күн бұрын
I'd also like to add that moment when Gangle is talking to Pomni outside and her input being "I love Ragatha but sometimes it's hard to tell when she's genuine" As well as Ragatha telling Gangle she likes her better when she's sad (which might also have a lot to do with Ragatha being a 2)
@13mungoman1323 күн бұрын
@dorotejavukoje854 To be fair, Jax was the one who said he likes her better when she's sad (cuz he's a type 4 who tries to own his being a terrible person as his identity). Ragatha said she was "annoying with her comedy mask on", before immediately questioning whether that was a mean thing to say. Which is also very 2; Finally speaking your mind, before immediately backtracking.
@Asodym22 күн бұрын
Eyyyyy I thought the same thing. tbh, her enneatype is the clearest of the circus. I struggle to work out everyone else.
@13mungoman1322 күн бұрын
@@Asodym I'm actually unsure if Jax is a 4 or a 7, because I can't tell if he's trying to justify his sociopathy by making it "who he is" or if he's just trying to fill the void with as many wild, fun, and violent experiences as possible to stave off grappling with the fact that everyone (justifiably) hates him. Pomni gives me big Type 6 vibes, very "the world is out to get me and there's nothing I can do about it" energy. Kinger is very much a Type 5, in that his go-to state is to retreat into a little corner where life makes a modicum of sense, and when he's removed from his comfort zone he becomes a twitchy neurotic mess. Caine is very much a Type 3: Tries his best to make adventures for the others, but will never succeed because he's fundamentally incapable of actually giving them what they want, their freedom. When confronted by the idea that his adventures aren't even that good, he comes extremely close to undergoing a full-on meltdown. Those are the ones I could spot at a glance!

Tbh I think she’s a 3 but I’m thinking of the musical, not the new movie. The whole “popular” song and becoming a fake politician solidifies that for me. It’s not about real relationships, it’s about being popular. The tragedy of her character is that she loses the only real relationship she has.
@tsunamiscientist5687 күн бұрын
@@s0ulcode I've only seen the movie (so please don't spoil act/part 2), but a lot of "Popular" seems deeply two-coded. "Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I [...] My tender heart tends to start to bleed" She's helping Elphaba out with her look because of her "tender heart," which sounds a lot like the ego justification that Lucas described. "And when someone needs a makeover I simply have to take over I know, I know exactly what they need" She also has a compulsive need to help when she feels she knows what is best, accentuated by Ariana's delivery of that "HAVE to take over". "Don't be offended by my frank analysis Think of it as personality dialysis" Again, fixing other people and thinking you know what is best for them. But anyway, she definitely has some 3 in her. I'd say she's a 2w3. Go watch the movie! It was really good, and I've heard people who actually watched the musical say that it's a great adaptation, too.

I could see 2's being pretty closely related to/a by-product of Borderline Personality Disorder. They find their 'special person' to take care of and receive love from but they'll often take it waaaay too far. Their childhood trauma wounds of abandonment/rejected love make it something they MUST acquire from others in order to 'survive', but like you said, they won't come out and admit that they're manipulating everyone around them to attain that love.
@caseyw128821 күн бұрын

Awesome video! You make everything so clear and also intriguing. Thank you! I'd like to add a minor point: They might not claim to be all that and a ray of sunshine because they might not be overtly trying to advertise themselves to others. Their priority is to make other people happy, so they might try to cater to others while consciously removing themselves from the social equation: "I'm fine. Nothing to see here." Subconsciously, they're HOPING other people return their affection, but it must be achieved indirectly. If they're self-aware, they might socially starve themselves like this in an attempt to be seen as purely generous and not needy. Ironically, resisting affection like that tends to make them spiral into self-loathing and need even more support. So, if you're close to that kind of a 2, they might even speak of themselves disparagingly because it's the humble thing to do. Ironically, they have too much pride to admit that they just want to be loved and seek love directly.

The perfect character presenting an unhealthy Type 2 is Commodus from Gladiator (2000). That man is obsessed with being loved, so obsessed that he kills his father and so on...
@arcanewarrior86322 күн бұрын
More of a 3 love than a 2 love though. It’s more about the respect. 2s want to feel more appreciated . Good example of a unhealthy type 2w3 is a cult leader, makes an entire circle of people who love and worship him as he creates a sense of dependency on him
@19whiteroses8621 күн бұрын
@arcanewarrior863 I got your point, but Commodus lacks the discipline and pragmatism of a 3. His self-image focuses more on being unique and getting the love he's sickly seeking, rather than on being successful, as 3 would do. Moreover, Type 3s are highly goal-oriented and pragmatic. 3s want to achieve tangible success and are willing to put in the effort to get there. Commodus, does not strive to earn his achievements or gain respect through hard work or competence. He expects power and admiration simply because of his status. So I see him as a very unhealthy 2 or maybe a 4 who, under stress, can take on distorted type 2 traits.

One of my favorite 2 main characters is Natsuki Subaru from Re Zero. He’s a character with a looping ability that activates whenever he dies and he uses it to save those he wants to be close with because he has a crippling inferiority complex and thinks that a relationship with a particular girl will help him fill that hole in his heart. The problem is that he can’t communicate with others about his ability so no one truly understands the degree of sacrifice he commits for them. It develops into a really ugly and compelling scene where he lashes out at the girl for everything he has done for her but she can never understand what he’s talking about. It culminates in a beautiful growth where he develops more altruistic motivations for helping others and even develops better self love for himself that eventually translates into him being a healthier person for the people around him

On one hand this series has been incredibly helpful for writing my comic book, so thank you. On the other hand the evidence presented so far suggests that I have ever type of fixation. I really hope that's not possible because I don't see myself being able to do any of the types of things you've said a person must do to overcome each of these fixations. Like, in each video you say something like "to overcome this fixation they must stop doing A, and start doing B." And I'm always like, "I really hope I don't have this fixation because I could never do B.". I've always known I'm a hot mess, but the idea of personally having every Enneagram fixation feels way too pathetic! I'm really hoping that the type 1 video explains how people with a type 1 fixation always think they have every fixation, but they're just being paranoid and the way they overcome that fixation is by addictively binging on pizza and internet even though that always makes them feel like shit.
@tsunamiscientist56823 күн бұрын
Lucas pointed out in the first video that we all have a bit of every type fixation inside of us, so that could be what you're experiencing. Additionally, the hopelessness you're describing sounds like depression. Or maybe 9-ish "I can never do anything about my problems, so I will accept them, even though they suck." Consider seeing a mental health professional, if you are capable. If it's not just depression, I think you're probably a 9.
@YouSting23 күн бұрын
I think a lot about LocalScriptMan saying, a certain behaviour might manifest in a character of any type, depending on the circumstances. He gives the example of wearing outlandish clothes, but I think it works almost with any behaviour or trait. A character has a short temper and is prone to explosions. Is it an 8 trying to exert control over their surroundings, or a 4 crying out for attention? Who knows. If LocalScriptMan is to be trusted saying that one type of toxicity always prevails in a person, then you'll be able to track your dominant fixation down by paying attention to the context of what you do. And if you can't find one type which describes you perfectly, eh. The enneagram is just a writing tool. Not a guide to destiny.

I recently went on a lore deep dive on Vampire: The Masquerade and this is the Salubri bloodline to a T. They are healers, uniquely empathetic and remorseful for their condition, and seen as the “good guy” bloodline of the game because they are compelled to feed only on people that consent. Sounds great, but like Type 2’s, their generosity often becomes a tool to leverage people in desperate straights to become their blood banks. Also, this is Christianity to a T. Preach charity and community, then undermine social safety nets so that people are forced to rely on their charity and thus fall under their control.

HOLYYY YOU'RE BACKKKK!! I'VE BEEN CHECKING YOUR CHANNEL EVERY OTHER DAY TO SEE IF YOU'VE FINALLY UPLOADED 'CUZ I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO SUPPORT YOU ON PATREON 😭 Glad to see the Enneagram series close to its end. I'm guessing you'll upload the Enneatype 1 on New Year? You know, January 1 and all that. No pressure tho. Hope you've been well during your absence. Feel free to take a well deserved holiday break after dropping this absolute banger of a video. Happy holidays!

First my final grades for the semester come out great, then the 7th TF2 comic releases, and now LocalScriptMan has not only uploaded, but uploaded the video on enneagram type 2. Why is everything good happening now?
