I can't wrap my head around what the Aberdeen couple were thinking. (1) They work in their office in Aberdeen 3 days a week so they will only be living in Edinburgh 4 days a week. Unless they are looking for new jobs in Edinburgh, why would they relocate instead of going there on weekends? (2) With their limited budget, they insisted on having their own front door, even though it would cost them 100K more. I feel the 3rd property is a missed opportunity, which they can let the lower floor to help with the mortgage, without compromising the front door and location.

Yes, its like having champagne taste on a beer budget. However, they have more than I do, its just about being realistic. And you can put a canopy up in yards that are overlooked by others for privacy. Its just the things we consider strange they consider a deal breaker.... How many would love to even have the opportunity.

I thought the first flat was gorgeous, and the only thing they didn't like was that it had a shared entranceway. They say they are going to wait until house prices go down, but in Canada, where I live, the house prices have stabilized, but not gone drastically down, so I think they'll be disappointed that the market stays buoyant, especially in a well sought after city like Edinburgh.

I love the house Kirstie found for that couple. For myself I would leave the wall in place upstairs as the bedroom was a nice size. The upstairs would still be the master suite, with the smaller bedroom being used as a dressing room. A simple, inexpensive and easily reversible move if needs be. Downstairs was lovely, but combining the existing bath with the kitchen making a nice sized room, and adjusting the rest to suit would make it a very viable home until well into their dotage. When decrepitude hits, single floor living with upstairs for a live in helper would require no work. A perfectly future proof home.

People are picky! They are shown lovely properties, but still they turn up their noses. And to make such a fuss about a separate front door (worth payimg 100,000 pounds more - really?) or a garden that is a few degrees off the desired orientation! One of the two couples fortunately found a house they loved, but the other couple.... pickyyy!
@jhutch1681 Жыл бұрын
No one wants to spend that much money if it doesn't make them happy. They will just have to take more time to either increase their budget, or get their heads around the compromises. If it doesn't feel right, it doesn't matter what other people think.
@npike12Ай бұрын
Biggest purchase you'll ever likely to make. Well at least one of the biggest. So worth being picky. But I agree wouldn't be that keen on getting your own front door for 100k. Plus means your front rooms can be easily looked into as your right by the pavement.

Interesting … I know the area and looked up the land registry - the Comely Bank main door flat actually sold for $460 so unclear why their $465 wasn’t accepted. Maybe the seller changed their mind …

It makes me SO MAD when they call a maisonette a FLAT ‼️ A "FLAT" is FLAT - i.e. all on one level. If it has stairs then that is not FLAT 🙄🙄 Doh 😟 You could call it a split house, but not a 'flat'

Lived years in Edinburgh and moved rural. Wouldn't ever go back at any price. Crowded, loud, nowhere to park. Corstorphine? Yuck. Juniper Green? That's not Edinburgh if you ask me. Comely Bank -- maybe. We lived in Stockbridge which is now such a hot item and it's way-overrated if you ask me. Keep Edinburgh. I'll take Perthshire.

I believe Phil mentioned their mortgage lenders would only cover the house value which was 460k,and they had to find any excess over that figure, even if they had a mortgage of up to 475k.

2nd time watching this. Why doesn't Scotland just hold auctions? Such a horrible system.
@npike12Ай бұрын
Few issues. Depending on the situation money isn't a deal breaker. For example if your looking to move into a new build which requires you to sell your flat quickly or move to a bigger house you might accept a lower bid if it's a cash bid or a first time buyer to secure your next move. Can't really do an auction on that. Also believe it's much less likely you get gazumped in Scotland. Some properties go to sale for fixed price. The sealed bids are not to bad for me but the fact that the lower of the home report value and what you pay for it counts for the loan to value calc. So in Edinburgh when I was looking you had to go other the home report value and make up the difference with your deposited even in ect council flats.

I can't understand why the first couple don't stay in Aberdeen! Much cheaper and close to family! Edinburgh has far too many people now! The second couple would save a fortune by considering maybe Birmingham, Rochdale or Bradford! Again, the money saved would help a lot! Also Edinburgh is full these days 😲👍🏻

It’s how it works in Scotland. They mostly do Offers Over, which pretty means the best offer wins. Stamp Duty is the equivalent to closing costs in the us.

Stamp duty are state government charges on every contract written. So of course it’s a lot of money on houses here in Australia. Probably $50,000 or more on an average house in New South Wales.

actually it is a light and air issue. A NorthEast facing house will get good light in the morning, but not any sun. So while houses are centrally heated in the UK, it will be colder than houses that get direct sunlight.

👎👎👎 this is a very dishonest channel because this is not an episode from Season 39. There is no Season 39. Regardless of Season or Series, I mean the 39th year of the show which Location, Location, Location series has yet to reach. This season/series is likely less than 20 years old judging from the age its hosts, P. Spencer and K. Allsop.
