Love this! My grandfather was a Graham and my Grandmother a Lawson, both from Montrose. Never got to meet either of them, but the pride still runs deep for my heritage!
@TheMechanicalGirl9998 жыл бұрын
Same for me, I did get to "meet" my grandmother (my mom's side was/is Irish Protestant mom and English Catholic Dad). By meet, I mean the couple times I met her she was suffering from such severe dementia in her 80s I had no clue if it was her 80 year old, 12 year old or 30 year old self I would get at any moment. I never met my grandfather but my mother's twin brother shared his "unfortunate" name (was a junior). My grandmother's side were/are the Savages and my grandfather's side were/are the Dews. Now, the unfortunate name my grandfather and uncle share(d) was/is Richard Dew! I do NOT think I have to tell ya the horrid names that went with that one, lol!

Loch Lomond The Real McKenzies Hey! O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road And I'll be in Scotland before ye But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond YEEEAAAAHOOO! By yon bonnie banks and the wee craggy shores On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomond Where deep purple hues, and the highland hills we view And the moon comin' out in the gloamin' ‘Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomond Where deep purple hues, and the highland hills we view And the moon comin' out in the gloamin' The wee birdies sing and the wild guitars ring And in sunshine the waters are sleeping: But the broken heart, it kens that we'll never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road And I'll be in Scotland before ye But me and my true love will never ever meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond

Thank you for posting this...from an American member of Clan Colquhoun who will always wish he had been raised on Loch Lomond, instead of being raised on pictures of the loch. Wish I had something clever to say about the brilliance of combining bagpipes and punk/rock, but the porn and internet comment below sort of stole the show....

Saw these guys at the horseshoe tavern a few years ago... well the first 3 minutes of the show before Paulie sprayed a bottle of beer in my face. By the time I had vision back my brother was on stage chasing Paul around the drum kit! :) Needless to say, we missed the rest of the show! Hoping they come back, I'd like to meet Paul again ;)

Bagpipes are essentially & through and through punk instruments. Add the drums and you want to go wage war. Or break furniture, and stomp a hole in the floor.

@wyomikey65: No. It was _united_ (there was no one to gain independence from) in the 800s. It then had to fight two wars of independence to fend off the English, in the 13th and 14th centuries. It merged with England in the 1600s (albeit not politically), and the Kingdoms of England and Scotland ceased to exist in their union (into the Kingdom of Great Britain) in the early 1707. Scotland has never actually gained independence.

@kingdomofdalriada... and I regard scottish-americans as being scottish, so it doesn't really matter how YOU see them. The fact still remains: if somebody has a scottish heritage then who are you to stop him from expressing it? plus, the geography thing is a stupid point because if a scottish guy and a scottish girl move from scotland and have a baby, he'll still be scottish regardless of what you are "regarding" him to be (plus, there are scottish communites in america with scotish culture)

@02xfal These same nincompoops get on several Scottish music sites yapping at Americans and Canadians who wish to honor their Scottish ancestry. They seem to be under the mistaken impression that they speak for all of Scotland. I very much doubt they express the views of the majority of Scots. The ones I met over there were pleased that folks across the pond still revered their roots and honored their distant kin. None of us would want to claim kin if all Scots were as surly as them.

Nerra36. Scotland and Ireland are very close,..though some may say they're not. Many Irish came to Scotland during the Potato Famine as well many Scots escaped English Rule to Ireland. There is more annomosity toward the English. Scots and Irish both fought the English for Scotlands Freedom.
