Kirkan O' Tartan festivals started as act of protest/ freedom & unconquerable souls like the poem Invictus by Willam Earnest Henley, William Wallace etc. Scotland is Gradh Geal Mo Cridhe, ( even though I have not even been to my ancestral homeland yet like my sister has, my Scotch blood always yearning to see purple heather on the moors, green Highlands, lochs, sea. Maybe I'm a Selke, I long for the sea like Dulaman. Scotland has always called me. ), of course after Jesus , who is TRULY Mo Ghille Mear & homeland inheritance with Him in heaven. 💯💢💥❤🧡💛💚💙💜💞🙏🙏🙏💪🙌🙌🤲🤲. Unlike the Irish , I think it so awesome how Scottish people refused to stop speaking their native language. Almost all especially younger generation are fluent in Gaelic. J gonzález Hey ya, A first visit for The Open at St. Andrews.Learned about Scotch whisky! and made new friends. Driving was a challenge but not fatal. Drove along rainy Loch Ness and then sunny Loch Lomond. Our Mother sang us this song and we sang along. The story of the failed rebellion and the resulting cruel treatment of brothers and friends may enlighten some to this ballad's sad history. To Scotland!

Now and then (not often) I need to remind myself why I love Scotland so much; her lands, her people and her music. Always makes me shed a tear at the honour life has given me in a clan name - we are birds of paradise; 5 million Scots in a world of 8 billion souls. Take a walk in those hills and admit to yourself that you are a king on the Earth. Alba gu bràth!

If there was an anthem change, you'd probably get the original version of the song, which is still a really good song. (This version is missing the last two primary stanzas)

Whenever there are polls regarding which song should be the official anthem Flower Of Scotland always comes out on top because it's easily recognisable and often people are unsure what the other songs are by name. I like Flower Of Scotland but the lyrics are not as good as some of the other choices.
@Doug.Dimmadome3 жыл бұрын

Many commentators when referring to this song seem to believe it is about Scottish independence but it is not and it is worth remembering that the referendum was not held to decide whether or not Scotland was or is a country .That was decided once and for all at the battle of Bannockburn .The referendum concerned whether or not Scotland should leave the UK .Neither country ,Scotland or England stopped being countries with the act of union. That is why it was possible to hold a referendum in Scotland and why it will be possible to hold another if the 'vow' is not honoured .

The high road was the normal road, while the low road was the one they used to carry the coffins of the dead.So there is a profound meaning in this song. It means he has died and will take the low road and be in Scotland before the living.

Rachel Willett ...appreciate you're comment is 4 years old, but...I would love to have seen Scotland 'independent' but I fear that would have been short-lived as that Krankie of a woman, Sturgeon, would have sold out a 'free' Scotland and 'bent the knee' to that Totalitarian, undemocratic project called the EU. I love all the cultures and people of Europe, but hate the political EU system, which is no different to what Napoleon or Hitler tried to impose on Europe and many people, including the British, died in order to prevent them.
