Welcome back! I've never seen this one, but I'm a massive fan of Loch Lomond, especially their 12.

I got the 14 year old, but i still don't know what to think about it.

@@martinbeen I'm not familiar with their 14, Loch Lomond is pretty thin on the ground where I live. I've only had their Original, 12, and 18; all very good values.

Loch Lomond are doing some different whisky and experimenting and its refreshing to see a distillery just do what they want.

One of Loch Lomonds other peated offerings, Inchmoan 12 is superb. One that definitely seems to be under the radar amongst reviewers

I always look forward to the winter, it is hot as balls here right now. Looking forward to the more serious stuff as you put it.

I second Mr. Molloy's recommendation of the 12! They seem to be serious about making good whisky.

I thought for sure we'd reviewed the 12 but apparently not. Probably should remedy that...

@@TheSingleMaltReview It might have been the Inchmurrin 12.

@@TheSingleMaltReview Absolutely, this whiskey is very difficult to describe, it's weird. To taste, I would say almond paste, spices, oakness.

Great choice for a review. As much as I enjoy single malts, I also really enjoy my blends. Try a Penicillin for a cocktail with peat. It's exceptional!

I'll have to give that a try next time I have some peated around the house

I am totally jealous of your cool temperatures. I am a true Canadian and our summer has been crazy ... so hot and never ending. I can't wait till the snow. Back to whisky. I am OK with blends and certainly affordable ones! Monkey Shoulder with a little peat? Certainly good enough to try if I see it here. Cheers!

Their master blender, Michael Henry, mentioned in an interview with Roy (Aqvavitae) that if the blend carries the distillery's name, that is how the SWA allows them to label what is essentially a single blend. As this blend does that, it is made entirely at Loch Lomond. If you gents ever see the LL Signature blended whisky, I highly recommend it. Enjoyed the review! Cheers!

I can’t find this whisky in the US. I have seen the ‘classic’ which makes me think they renamed it for the US market?

Ha Ha! The captain obviously had some talent securing this whisky as he and the crew were drinking this in the 1930s, where as the present Loch Lomond distillery was not established until 1965!

"A curious blend from an equally curious distillery" ... too true. I agree with your comments replying to Reb, I tried the 12 against the 18 and actually thought the 12 was better. Have you tried their "The Open 2021" or the "Spearhead Single Grain"? Both cheap as chips and enjoyable.

A peated blend might make a very interesting Black Manhattan variant. Whisky, Ramazzotti, Orange Bitters.

I got a handle of this for around $24. I laughed my ass off when I saw the same 1.75L handle at another liquor store for like $60. Just goes to show that with scotch perception and reality are often far apart in foreign retail markets.
