Loch Maree Sea Trout Collapse

The Clyde estuary seems to be as good as ever , cardross and Ardmore point produce fish on par with scandinavia, outwith the Clyde and where salmon cages loom there is a marked decline in seatrout

I remember as a boy how the Firth of Clyde was stuffed with Codling. A simple handline with a mussle on the hook would catch fish after fish, 3 to 6 or 7lbs at a time. Shore competitions along the coast between Largs and Wemys Bay, would be won with a dozen or more Codling , from 3 to 5lbs. Once the inshore waters were opened to the commercial fishermen, it took two years before the Cod and everything else were wiped out. Its a scandal that it was ever allowed to happen. I think its a valid point that Sea Trout have most likely sufferred as a result of the exploitation of the inshore waters. Finally, there are still Sea Trout to be caught in the Clyde Estuary, if you know where to go, I have had quite a few. I have never had one with any sea lice.
