It's a fantastic experience Rob. Far better than a long weekend in Spain sharing a room with someone snoring and farting up a storm. I love hanging out with the caddies and having a laugh with them. Thai humour is so good. The jetlag and the weather is very taxing and sometimes you just fade on the back 9 with lack of energy. But it's worth it. I love the people so much. November is a better month, not by a huge amount but better. More cloud cover.

Well done Simon. To play to your handicap, round a course that you didn't know that well, is excellent (even with doubling the last!!!). Some of the lines that Minnie gave you were surprisingly wide, but surprisingly accurate!!! As for your playing partners, "pig ignorant" is an understatement. To talk while you were putting and to drive off before you'd finished the hole is appalling!!! I wonder if they behave the same in their own country, back at their home courses? Hope that the leg continues to recover?
@thehairygolfer2 жыл бұрын
I was 5 over Neville so 1 under but I didn't know what the scratch was. And even if I did I wouldn't agree with it. I don't know who assessed their courses in Thailand but I find myself playing tees that have a scratch of 2 under while having water on 12 holes?????? I ignore their numbers and just use my own handicap. Minnie was great, I played 3 rounds with her and we got better as a team. She got the maximum tip each time. To be fair most did. One got the minimum and you will see why in a couple of weeks. Leg not so good, going to be another 2 weeks.

@@thehairygolfer I'm really enjoying seeing a course like this as it's just so interesting, with all the hazards etc. It proves that a course doesn't have to be overly long to test the technical skills of your game, the 10th hole here being an excellent example - how far right you had to aim your chip was extraordinary!!! The par-3's as well at that course aren't 200 yards plus, as with a lot of courses these days. It's nice to see short irons being played into these sorts of holes too as that takes as much if not more skill than belting a wood or hybrid to reach a par-3 green! Sorry to hear about the leg. You'll just have to enjoy your golf on TV for the time being!!!

@@nevillehubbard7347 I always pick friendy tees in Thailand. What's the point of shooting 10 over handicap? I try to find out how far the ball is running on the drive too before I play. If there hasn't been a thunderstorm for days I can go back a set of tees and I do on some courses. My next round here I start from 10 on the blue tees with driver back in the shute. Can u chose your own caddy or are they allocated
@thehairygolfer Жыл бұрын
Yes and yes Arthur. As a general rule the caddies are allocated in strict rotation. However, if you turn up in a minibus of 8 blokes you get the chance to jump out of the bus, grab your bag and hand it to whoever you like out of the crowd of caddies at the back of the bus. You might want someone who is pleasing to the eye or you may want to grab a granny who has been caddying for 40 years. But also you can book a caddy in advance either by arranging it with the caddy or simply phoning the course and telling them which number you want. If I was playing Laem Chabang tomorrow I would ring up and book either 009 or 267. Siam Plantation number 071. Some courses will charge you for booking/messing up the rota. I didn't get charged for booking Minnie. Each course has it's own rules. I'm happy to take pot luck each time but if I'm playing a course 3 times I will book the caddy if she made me laugh all the way round the first time.
