Definitely the getting up down with chipping/pitching is very important!! When I play the pitch and putt there are two holes which have this distance!! Also the practice green there you can do these shots as well!! Keep up the good work Simon!!🏌‍♂⛳

Your comments match my play. I play the tee that my arms are up to playing and on really long hole if there is no short tee I will tee off down the fairway. I stared playing after a 53 year break with a broken body. My good drives are 155 yards and long irons are 120 yards. I do not play long courses if I can help it. I also do not maintain a handicap or play matches.

I walk my golf course too and I have had groups come up to me swearing I am slow but then I point at the six groups of 4 in front of me. I usually let everyone through who are in buddies. I am an older golfer now but I still have a 9 handicap so if beginners or weekenders would play late in the afternoon and let us regulars play through. Oh stop whining Paul

That's true. Repeating a wrong move makes it harder to fix later down the line. I think with a short swing like this it's something we can figure out on our own and if not go get some help. But it's not manly to have a short game lesson.

I can do better than that. Young girl of 15 in the club could drive it 260 yards and played off 5. I used to play with her Dad. She had a swing to die for. Disappeared into the County and England teams about 6 years ago. Not sure what happened to her. But that was the only one in 35 years of golf. I do know what the Lady Pros play though. Usually around 5900 yards par 72. They only get longer for the Majors and a few bigger events in America. I have nothing but admiration for the Ladies game.

Old age shortening of shots means we all suffer from missing the green. Currently I pass a lot of practice time in the bar. I'm practising for that one day when I win a competition again. I can remember how it felt, but I can no longer get it quite right. Much like the rest of my game out on the course. HOWEVER, for a drink or two in the bar after the round, I can perform just as well if not even better than I did some years ago. So the moral of this contribution is "practice is good for your golf". You just need to practice that part of the game that produces the most enjoyment. Thanks Simon for a most enjoyable video, made more enjoyable by the omission of tips on technique. Many other golf videos offer so many differing opinions on chipping technique that I have become totally confused and lost most of the skills I once had - hence my changed practice site.

I haven't won since 2019. I just doesn't happen. I'm not bothered to be honest. Play well and be happy with that. There are so many chipping videos out there telling you what to do. People who play on meadow grass on clay soil chip different to people who play on well drained soil and proper grass. Completely different. Some have elaf green some have raised greens. Completely different technique. Which is why I don't watch teaching videos as a rule.

Alan, nothing worse than going slow and then having to rush. It messes with your tempo and that desire to now get out of someones way. 9 clubs? Yeah, that might be a little much. @@alangoudie2299 Hello Alan, that Alien is one hell of a club. Hit one once and you couldn't do much wrong with it. 8 hybrid? Now that is something I have never seen before. But why not? Higher handicap golfers can use clubs like the Alien & various hybrids. If you look on You Tube you will discover the L2 MOI MAX putter with a D shape with a face measuring 12 cms with a height of 2 & a half cms. You would never use it but using a pendulum stroke it simplifies it & definitely prevents the yips. I now prefer a normal Odyssey O Works Tank 7 putter. Renewed thanks for your valuable suggestions.

Hi Paul, I don't think I can change something I have done for a lifetime. Is something a fault or a feature? I don't do the toe down or change my grip. I don't go down the shaft unless the ball is above my feet. I would describe chipping and putting as a finger print. We are all different. Not sure if I class as a senior yet (53 ) but for 12 months I just practiced 50yards and In due to an elbow injury. It payed off as I went from 28 hcp to 14 in 12 months. Now my elbow is getting better I’m practicing long game now. I’ve even had a 9 over round. And I put that score down to my short game as my long game was average at best. I can’t beat my playing partners for distances but I usually beat them around the greens and putting.

Awesome progress. I'm currently putting the effort in the short game and it slowly scores are going down. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

@@metalheads-golf it’s nice to be long off the tee don’t get me wrong but if you physically cannot do that then improve where you can and all golfers can chip and putt

Wow Big Nose, that is some improvement. Shows what is important. I don't need to tell you how much fun it is winning a hole from 30 yards when the other guy has a 40 foot putt and 3 stabs it. I love it. Just when they think you are dead and buried......

@@thehairygolfer 100% plus the fact golf is more fun when you don’t chunk it from 30 yards 😂

@@CarlBroadbent There is no shot like opening up a wedge to go over a bunker. Until you slide under the ball and it just pops into the bunker. Then plugs. I believe they call it a test of character. One which I am known to fail from time to time.......

Bobby Wilson (Senior longhitter champion ) teaches also a slightly open stance.

I can understand that having back problems. Just getting ever so slightly out of your own way. Makes more sense to me than back foot back to hit a ropey hook. Cheers

I began playing the forward tees when I turned 50. Not because of age, but because of my lack of skill. 19 years later, I still cannot break 90 on a par 72 course. I am about to give up golf for good, as I can no longer hit any golf shot over 100 yards. I am in really decent shape, but my swing mechanics are horrible and apparently unfixable (I have taken many, many lessons trying to fix my swing).

Hello Jeff, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't want to sound cruel but there must be a point where you say to yourself this is not for me. Whatever you decide don't sit in the chair in front of the tv and rot. Find something else outdoors. Take the dog round the course, get a saturday job in the Pro shop if you miss it and your mates. The very best of luck, I hope you work it out.

@thehairygolfer not cruel at all. I have quit golf a couple times, but came back to the hoping I could do better each time. I will probably play one more year and see if I can break 90. If not, I'm done monkeying with this game.

@@JeffPassageCPA Very best of luck Jeff. It's a hard nut to crack. It took me years to learn how to play boring golf. Stuck at 9 for 9 years. I was lucky to start young. Very difficult to start at age 50 or older.

@thehairygolfer I've been playing since I was 11 (57 years ago). Took me 42 years to finally break 100. I took many lessons, but no method or system worked for me. I am truly stuck and have no clue how to improve. Who would you recommend?

@@JeffPassageCPA I don't honestly know how to help. Who? I'd find someone your own age. If I was to try and help I'd start at the hole and work your way back. Can you hole 3 footers? Can you hit 15 feet to a tap in? Can you putt 45 feet or a greenside chip to 4 feet? If you can score round a green then forget how bad the long game is. Just a thought.

My goodness. You’re outside swinging the clubs. A walk in the park. Quit worrying about the numbers on the card and competing against 20-something scratch players. Enjoy yourself.
