A friend who knew I loved Linda Ronstadt said you’ve got to here this woman sing, she’s similar in some ways. It was love at first note. I later saw k.d. lang say that Linda was one of the primary reasons she was drawn to county music.

Truly, one of the greatest singers of all-time. Could well be the best of all-time. Her vocal range, power, phrasing and mic control are unmatched. The lady can literally sing anything. She can both uplift an audience or reach into the depths of their souls and tear their hearts out. The fact that Johnny loved her so much is a testament to her greatness. For my money, the only female singer that could touch her was the (now retired) legend herself - Tina Turner.

I think what killed her country music career was he stance on eating meat. As much as I love k. d. lang, she blew it for country music listeners when she did that.

@@misspad7282she was already shunned long before that for her looks, and that was before she was publicly out as gay. Then it got worse, and then the meat thing happened. And by then she wasn’t even singing country. She’s always bounced around between country, jazz, standards, pop, and more. All of that is why country shunned her, but more recently yes her stance on the foods she chooses to not eat and why (her religion in part) make certain kinds of country music fans and people are shunning her. Basically the cancel culture that they so revile but do themselves all the time 😂
