The great thing about the 96 draft is that some of these players still had a solid case for going above Kobe even by today standards. Now of course a redraft would have Kobe as the consensus number 1 pick but with the culture back then a high schooler was not going number 1.

Can't wait til you get to the '97 and '98 draft classes. My #2 and #1 favorite players all-time came from those drafts (T-Mac and VC). I always hooped with my cousins, so when I found out THEY'RE cousins it boosted them for me. I based my turnaround fade off Tracy (his jump and release were unique), and everything about how Vince played made me fall in love with basketball in the 2000s. Well, that and And 1.

Corrections: - Pistons went to 2 finals not 2 rings. - Guys it looks like I missed recording Antoine Walker's part to know more about him check below! As a starting player in the 1996 NCAA winning team and, at the time, MVP of the SEC tournament, Antoine Walker had a promising career ahead of him. The 6’ 9 Power forward was drafted by the Celtics in the 10th spot, which would prove to be a great choice. In just his sophomore season, Antoine became a 20-point ten rebounds type of player and even earned an all-star selection, and from that point on, there was no stopping for Antoine. The duo he would form with Paul Pierce would carry Boston to a conference final and facilitate Walker earning two more all-star selections. After small stints in Dallas and Atlanta, he would reach the pinnacle of team success by winning the 2006 championship with the Heat. He would continue for a couple more years in the NBA, before spending some time in Puerto Rico and then the D league, where he would eventually retire. The story of Walker’s life and post-retirement troubles are centered around one thing: money. He has notoriously been terrible at managing his money, and that , coupled with a gambling addiction, was what caused his downfall. The problem that NBA players have after they finish playing is that they keep the same lavish lifestyle that they had when the paychecks were coming in every month, and if you don’t have crazy endorsements like Michael Jordan, then that’s just not possible. This is exactly the trap in which Antoine fell, as in 2010, he declared bankruptcy despite more than 100 million dollars in NBA earnings-a pretty sad ending to a good NBA career.

@LockdownK I did young brother. Living in L.A. I'd watched everyone of the Lakers game. I grew up with it. I was a little too young for showtime, but anyway, If I would miss one. I'd have my girl (wife now) record them on a VCR 😆. Then technology switched to tivo. Even if I knew the results, I'd watched the game. I witnessed his entire career. They say there will never be another like him. I'd disagree. Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards, I see the will and potential in them.

Please educate everyone on why Kobe DESERVES to be in the Goat convo. I put him ahead of lebron. Kobe’s mediocre efficiency percentages is used against him but in context he was shooting ABOVE league average. The league was just so much slower during his era. Plus Kobe is one of the most underrated passers and playmakers of all time.
@exilhamburger4802 Жыл бұрын
Small problem with Kobe in the Goat discussion: He modelled his game and approach after another shooting guard, who has had more success than him! Therefore he, from my perspective, has to yield the floor to MJ easily, while other players, like LeBron, Magic, Kareem, Russell etc. have longer arguments, by playing a different position with their own unique style!
@PSYCHOWORLD11 ай бұрын
@@exilhamburger4802I agree BUT he needs to be in the convo the disrespect from the media is crazy and people forget before Kobe passed, the media did not like him. I just want Kobe to get the respect of being in the convo. For me it’s MJ, Kobe, then Lebron at number 3. ALSO your statement adds to the goat convo, modeling your game after the greatest player in basketball but still being noted as an all time great and Kobe filled the shoes nicely of MJ, Kobe was a better passer and playmaker than MJ. I’m not saying Kobe is the GOAT. HE just needs to be in the convo but many do not agree with me by using out of context statistics!
@exilhamburger480211 ай бұрын
@@PSYCHOWORLD OK, I see your point! Living here in germany, I don't get a ton of the NBA shatter by pundits. etc. Kobe is clearly one of the best players of all time, but his perception is, in my mind, hindered by the following; 1. Spending his first two seasons in the league as a bench player instead of dominating in college. 2. Being the number two in the Shaq and Kobe pairing. The Lakers modelled their game around Shaq, just as the opponents prepared their defense around stopping Shaq! He absolutely had the talent/will/drive etc. to be number 1b, but that didn't happen. 3. After the split of that pairing Shaq immediately contended for a title with his new team, before starting to fall of, while Kobe's Lakers missed the playoffs in the first year without Shaq. 4. After eclipsing Shaq with a fifth title, his team badly failed in the 2011 playoff and qualified only once more, which didn't help his image.
