I remember I was chilling on my bed on Instagram ready to go out to dinner in an hour or two I believe and my friend texted me “Yo bro Kobe died”. I told him to stop messing with me so then I googled it and found out it was true. I was just frozen. Then I went and told my dad and he smiled thinking I was joking and then I showed him the search results on google and he was shocked too. Then I ran downstairs and told my brother, mom, and cousin and they all couldn’t believe it too and had the same sadness I had despite not even watching basketball. Such a sad day that should’ve never happened. RIP Kobe forever in our hearts💜💛💜💛

I cant find where Kobe said this but Kobe taught me one of the most valuable lessons with a KD vs Lebron example. He said something along the lines of "If Kevin Durant simply wants to slow down lebron, chances are he won't be to successful at it. But if he sets his goal to absolutely shutting down Lebron James, he'll probably be more successful." This completely opened my perspective on life. You have to set your goals higher if you want to be more successful. I didn't watch the NBA until Kobe retired, I didn't keep up with him and his lessons at that point. But one of the few lessons I heard from him completely changed my life, you know he was a man of wisdom when such a small occasion from him just so happened to change my life for the better. Thank you Kobe

This is incredible work, Rusty! Thank you for this! Kobe wasn't ever my personal favorite player, but I grew to respect the hell out of him, and he was part of my life since I was about 5 years old, back in 1997 when I first heard about him. I wasn't an avid NBA fan until years later, despite playing basketball, but I would often hear about Kobe, in one way or another, pretty much every year of my life since way back when. Even though he was an incredible scorer, I will never forget him snatching all of those rebounds in Gm 7 of the 2010 Finals. It's not often that a player will completely change their responsibilities like that for the betterment of the team, but Kobe was seemingly EVERYWHERE when he didn't have the ball for scoring, especially during the second half. Long live the Mamba!

I remember just waking up using my phone like 10 minutes after waking up going to Instagram and seeing from worldstar, complex, and other sources that Kobe Bryant died from a helicopter crash and just thinking “yeah right” then after seeing that I joined a ps4 party to my friends saying the same thing I was just in denial/disbelief that Kobe died for half the day

Was at my little brothers birthday party visiting my folks and my mom told me he passed, I had to go sit in my truck and cry for about 20 minutes. I grew up just thinking he was a great basketball player but when I got older I realized he was an amazing dad, teacher and just all around inspirational person and possibly the most driven person I've ever heard speak.

Thank you, Rusty. I know this was a labor of love, especially given the subject matter and time (which I didn't realize was as long given I was driving when listening). We all know what Kobe meaned to you, as he did to us. Good job!

rusty.... THANK YOU. It is fucking ridiculous for relatively smaller creators (especially NBA ones who struggle with claims) to pour this much dedication into one video. I had so much shit to get done today but got nothing done just thinking about Kobe all day. This grande finale re-capping everything I knew and love about kobe in a fire documentary is exactly what I needed. Thank you Rusty

I’d say that making a video of this quality shows a tremendous amount of motivation to get things done. Bravo. I was in Barnes and Noble when I found out….I’ve been a diehard NBA fan since I was 9 and my stepdad got me into basketball. Kobe went into the league a couple of years after I started watching, and I spent all my childhood and adult years watching him grow and evolve into the different eras depicted here. We’re lucky to have people like him to guide us and show us the way. His philosophy and wisdom apply far outside of his chosen sport. RIP Mamba!

If u don’t like the way the game has evolved then stop watching😂I’m sorry that Steph changed the game and now teams run more efficient fast paced offenses nowadays compared to dumping it down to big men all the time. I've watched your vids for 8-9 months now Rusty and this is by far your best work. I can tell how much you've applied the mamba mentality to your youtube channel, not just with what you talked about today but with the improvement you have made in the quality of your videos. I'm a lifelong Jazz fan who despised Kobe for a long time because he killed us every single time but that all changed in his last game. Even though I was watching him drop 60 on my Jazz who were still in playoff contention at that point, I couldn't help but put my bias aside and be amazed at what I was watching. Even though it was the night before my birthday and Kobe singlehandedly eliminated my Jazz from the playoffs, I just couldn't be upset. I was in awe. And that night I switched from a Kobe hater to a Kobe fan. I still haven't come to peace with his death, but celebrating his life and watching others do the same brought me a lot of peace over the past year, which has been without a doubt the toughest of my life. Thank you Rusty for this incredible video. Rest in peace Kobe Bryant
