I ride these to commute year round. It gets super snowy and icy where I live at the moment and they handle it well without being too laggy when the roads are dry. Informative review! I struggled with getting them to bead as well, but no problems since installation.
@nortcrusader2 ай бұрын
Have these tires for about 300kms, and I love them. Hard to install, but once done they feel very solid, puncture resistant, and not too slow on road. I would say excellent tires for no extreme conditions. But quite harder than other tires so yes play with pression. I owned schwalbe GS One RS and I had flat tires every 50-100kms, so I prefer one thousand times these Panaracer.

Everything you said is right in line with my experience with the SK's! I'd like to add though that if you live in an area with chunkier and rowdier gravel like SoCal, it's definitely worth it to get the + version. Sure they weigh a few grams moore, but I've destroyed 3 normal casing SK tires over the past 2 years. I frequently got cuts too big for sealant to heal, and the casing always eventually fell apart so air would get between the tread and the casing and make weird bubbles in the tire. With the + casing, it's been great: I've never gotten a flat since (knock on carbon) and I can get around the stiffer sidewalls by lowering tire pressure.

As you mention them to be noticeably stiffer than the "non plus" version, do you also find them slower ? According to bycicle rolling resistance the plus versions are much slower than non plus ... As I use foams inside, if these are much slower and harsher, maybe the non plus are a better choice ?

I have this exact tire and I'm replacing it. I really shouldn't have gotten the + version since it makes the tires so harsh to ride. I can't find a good balance of pressure and comfort with them. 30psi is the bare minimum for me before the start flexing way too much. Also, they have virtually no corning grip in loose terrain. I think they are predictable unpredictable when leaning over. At a certain point on gravel they are going to wash since they don't have a good bite point like other tires. They are a good cheap option that looks the part. I don't even feel like they roll that fast despite the relatively unaggressive tread.

I've ran the slicks and the SK with the 'regular' casing and the semi-slicks (ss) with the '+' casing. These are definitely an affordable, puncture resistant, fast tire.. in that order. The 'regular' casing on the slicks punctures far too easily to be useful on anything other than hard pack (*in my experience*). It's definitely an upgrade to the gravelking line, but I think there might be better tires out there now. (Rene Herse, Ultradynamico, and some WTB tires) The research done by Rene Herse has suggested wider, consistent depth knobs are fast rolling on pavement as well as on gravel, while offering consistent cornering. The 'small block' design gets clogged with mud and dirt quite easily and doesn't shed well. There's a lot of room for improvement for 'gravel' tires, and it seems like panaracer is behind the state of the art.

@@PeterSdrolias I live in the midwest. These handle the wet just fine. I do have the 42c on my Crux Elite and I've had no issues running them on 30psi in wet conditions. I have no idea what Griffin's issue is. Plenty of my friend ride this tire and one of them podiums frequently.
