Hey Luke and Jimmy. Fan from Huntsville here, and I think you guys were right on last night. I agree with most everything you said. I want to add... and I know/ understand that our coaches are a big problem, but Jalen needs to be benched. He IS NOT a passing qb and has regressed over his time at Bama. His back ups are better passers, but the whole offense doesn't want to play for them. The state of Alabama football is extremely disheartening right now. Anyway, thanks for the great podcasts to listen to.

What you saw in that game is a masterclass on how to prepare, execute, and play call. Venables is still one of the best at defense and defensive playcalling. He had a game plan that perfectly set up Bama's OC and dictated what Bama's OC called. The whole 1st half, OU kept 7-8 guys in the box to stop the QB run. What did Bama do, kept running the QB run up the middle into a stacked box without enough blockers. That 1st half set up Bama for the 2nd half. You would think that sonce bama got stuffed the whole 1st half they would start throwing the ball to the sidelines and OU set them up. For the first tiem all game, OU only have 5 guys in the box a dropped the other 6 to defend the pass. Once OU got up, knowing Bama would have to pass to catch up, OU unleashed blitzers and defended the pass knowing Bama would completely go away from the run. Masterclass in defense. OU defense dictated everything about the Bama Offense. Bama's Defense was worse. No commitment to stop the run what so ever. Which looking back, Bama has had issues with stopping the run which makes sense becuase of the 4-2-5. Only 6 guys in the box gets you beat with a QB power run or option. The thing that hurts is how Bama's DC never adjusted the defense to stop the run. Horrible coaching and not putting Players in the best position to make a stop.
@BAMAISBACK3945 күн бұрын
Our coaches need to understand the following facts: 1. A four man front with 3 linebackers playing 7 yards off the line of scrimmage is not going to stop the run of an opposing team who has good running backs and a QB that can run. 2. The offensive coordinator must realize that when he sees opponents defense play either a 4-4-3 or a 5-4-2 where 8 or 9 are in the box playing up daring you to pass keying on the run then please call plays and pass routes behind the linebackers. If you recall this is how we went down field early in game and scored points. OUs head coach is NOTORIOUS for playing an aggressive type of defense pressing the line of scrimmage. We needed more slants and post routes behind the linebackers and that would have caused OU to get out of their press defense and then the run game will open up. Tennessee played the same way. Look what GA did to TN when they started throwing behind the Linebackers. They broke away from TN and won the game handily. BAMA coaches must wake up and scout the opposition much better and not be so predictable.

A 50+ year Sooner Here ! Oddly I’ve also been a Sabin/ Alabama fan because of the 47 year Relationship between Stoops and Sabin Good friends and much respect !! Having said that Alabama had 2 TD called back one because the WR stepped out and the second because of the bad call although they also called hands to the face by a WR vs the DB along the sideline which would also cancel the TD but not lose the down ?? What happened to Alabama was they were a one trick pony with the QB run plus my Sooners are much better than than our record shows because of injuries !! Our Top 6 wideouts, top 2 Tackles, RB 1 with massive injuries across the O line !! We have never seen anything like it !!! OU can stop the QB run because of our front 7 who have stayed healthy! The QB made two stupid passes that were picked off Which is the difference in the game !!! The disrespect Alabama’s coaches had/Have for OU defense to stop the QB run cost them big time as well !! What people need to understand OU beat Alabama with true and RS freshmen !! Our RB was on the scout team until 3 weeks ago, our QB is a freshman, The first pick a true freshmen, the second pick was a guy who has only started several games !!! Only our QB was a game one starter ?? I really want to see Alabama finish strong this year But they need to change that QB run game by adding something else so that when they stop it Alabama can keep defences guessing !!

This is the kind of loss that makes you sit back and re-evaluate your entire life. It's really over isn't it. The 16 year run we had, expecting to win a national championship every year. This isn't gonna get any better next year. If Simpson was good enough to beat out Milroe, he would already be on the field. There isn't a championship QB on this roster. So what, we're going to start a true freshman next year? Ty holds it down for a year and we go 9-3 or 8-4? We get a plug the hole transfer? None of the options feel good. We're also going to lose our best 3 players on defense in Campbell, Malachi, and Jackson. I haven't really seen much from the other players on defense other than Hubbard and Brown, and Brown gets beat more often than he makes good plays. It just feels so over right now. What went wrong is that Bama thinks opposing defensive coaches are actually that dumb. I.e., bundle Milroe up and prevent him from using his legs - done. Because he can't hit the broad side of a barn when attempting to connect with downfield receivers, as he stands around studying the landscape for an eternity. And of course things are compounded even further by an offensive line repulsed by the idea of blocking.

As an older fan, Ive seen Oklahoma play in the 70's and I know they had a dynasty before that with Bud Wilkinson. Notre Dame was very good for a while. USC was good for a while. Etc. Dynasties come and go. Alabama has been a picture of consistency and excellence for about 20 years. Younger fans think that it will go on forever and it's just not true. Alabama is not a bad team but compared to some of their more recent teams, no. Now, with NIL and superconferences, I do not see too many "dynasties" in the future for anyone. Everyone's expectations are going to have to change. A 10-2 season in the SEC is probably going to mean that you are the conference champ and everyone else will have 3 or more losses.

I’m not that optimistic in beating AU this weekend. Our coaches have not shown the ability to make the necessary adjustments playing against a good run D and a good running O. They have to press more on D and pass more across the middle to loosen up a press D. The only way we beat AU is by not turning ball over at all.
@BAMAISBACK3945 күн бұрын
No it’s the coaching staff not calling a good game. They played right into the hands of OUs Defensive type of press the line of scrimmage game period. Our coaches have to put our players in a position to be successful and that did not happen. Trust me AU will play a press defense to take away our run game. Please pass ball behind the linebackers until they stop playing a defensive press game and then run. You have to keep D honest otherwise the offense will get shut down. You cannot be one dimensional period.

I have questions about the coaching staff. It’s psychological. Nick Saban’s psychological discipline is unmatched as records indicate. I believe it is very tough for any coach to match this dynamic. I also believe it can have dire consequences on overall team morale. Alabama lost focus on the here and now and it showed in this game. I started watching CFB in 1997 while living in Alabama. Roll Tide! I also moved to Oklahoma in 1999. Boomer Sooner. I’ve closely followed both teams. This should not have happened. Not even close. The only reason I can see is a team that has lost focus and that head coach is going to have to find it. I believe the level of players Alabama has require this detailed maintenance. Every nuance of coaching is scrutinized by players. It’s a two way street. Coaches want a certain level of performance and players want a certain level of psychological discipline administered in very defined terms. I don’t know how this is fixed.

my last comment..notice how well we play with an off week to prepare..UGA..off week..LSU..off week..I believe the problem is that our coaches are not use to preparing week in and week out for tough physical opponents. The coaches do not understand the grind week to week..give them 2 weeks to get ready and we r lights out…give them 5 days..no chance, at least against a quality opponent..it seems that the coaches are not putting the time in. A lot of Saban’s assistants used to talk about the long hours and the constant grind of the season…u never hear that from this coaching staff..one last thought..we have to figure out a way to keep our best 6-7 guys..#2 leaves, and our RBs leave. we have to keep #2 but there is no way that happens. he cannot create value in our current system..he will be able to at Florida, UGA and possibly Oregon..but not here. our lack of QB play with Milroe coming back will be the last straw..we have to encourage Milroe to leave. we have to cut the NIL money off and force him to the NFL or another team..

3 Bama OC's ran nothing but the same vanilla offence for one reason. Milroe isn't capable of doing anything else.💯 If Milroe was not named the starter and/or benched he would've never shut his mouth and destroy the team. This was the biggest problem DeBoer inherited. I'm not anti-DeBoer until he has a real QB and his own guys to work with.👍

Hey guys can we slow down on anointing this team as anything better than good? They are wildly inconsistent certainly not great and when you lose three times in that fashion against these types of opponents, eventually we have to call it like we see it. Don't forget South Carolina and UGA could have easily resulted in a couple of more Ls. The lack of preparation and intensity from this squad is unacceptable

The reason illegal touching was called, is there was no eligible player on the left side of the line. The rule states there must be seven players on the line with an eligible player on both sides. There was no eligible player on the left side of the line when the penalty was called. Correct penalty, bad explanation by the officials

If your nearest college is Vandy, be a Vandy Fan. Im halfway between Ole Miss and MS State. I chose Ole Miss, a lot chose State. Fair game. Sooner fan here and every stinking time OU goes into the 3 man front I cringe because the other team will gash us and I saw OU do the same to Bama last night. Those LB'ers have to be on point and physical to make the 3 man front go. Safety sized LB'ers wont cut it no mater what team is on the field if a team is dedicated to running power. Lets be real, huge, athletic, effective NG's are in short supply and I would not even consider a 3 man front without one.

This was a huge release of frustration rolling down hill and it was unfortunate Bama was in the way! This season has been embarrassing for Sooners to endure and all their frustration came to a head on Saturday.

@@Todd_B639 it’s really 4-2-5; the defensive end which he call Wolf is a stand up defensive end who can play outside backer containment which is currently being played by #4 Russaw
@ThaTrueShowtime5 күн бұрын
Most defenses run 4-2-5 now because of the heavy passing attack. It’s his scheme to contain zone read; QB option that he needs to fix. From what I’ve seen on film study the way we are aligned makes it so easy for the zone read to be effective against us. There was nobody to contain the edge. If Arnold really wanted to he could’ve pulled it everytime and went for 250+ himself
@Todd_B6395 күн бұрын
@ThaTrueShowtime but that just it. He ran mostly 3-3-5, not 4-2-5. You'll never stop the run with 3 D-linemen, especially in the sec
@ThaTrueShowtime4 күн бұрын
@@Todd_B639 I get it but alignment of the defense makes it look like a 3-3-5; Lawson and Jihaad are our true linebackers. The alignment alone wasn’t gonna stop the read option. There was no clear person responsible for the QB on the edge. I’ve seen times where Russaw was lined up inside the 7 technique. If Arnold wanted to he could’ve pulled it every play
