There is zero question that Sean McDermott has improved the Bills fortunes in his tenure. 5 straight AFC East championships, post season success at home and creating a culture that is the envy of the NFL are no small feats. The task of getting past the Chiefs is clear to me: Sean loves his defensive scheme and is not changing it. What has to change is the players on the defense. That is Brandon Beane's job. He's made the bold move to add Von Miller. It didn't make a difference. The idea was correct. The player was wrong. Brandon told us after this season that the missing piece is dominant playmakers on both offense and defense. We have Josh on offense. We need that playmaker on defense. Myles Garrett types don't come on the market often. It's time to bet the farm on Garrett. Now we get to see if Brandon Beane can be as great as Howie Roseman. We alway compare Josh to Mahomes and McDermott to Reid. How about our GM comparison? Is it time for Brandon Beane to make the move from very good to great? It sure would help Josh Allen and Sean McDermott if he did!!

The great numbers the Bills offense put up are also due to this team having the best and deepest offensive line in football. Period. They may not be the best player for player but they are deep and don't miss a beat when someone gets hurt. It doesn't take much to get better vertically. It was starting to get that way.

With all the accomplishments from McDermott that Joe just outlined, it's still amazing that such a large cross section of this fan base is screaming for his firing. I was on the NFL sub-reddit recently and there was a discussion of this very topic and it was interesting to hear the opinions of non-Bills fans. 95% of them said, basically, that the Bills would be insane to get rid of McDermott and when teams get rid of a really good coach in search of an "even better" one it backfires in almost every instance.

The last two playoff losses to the Chiefs were the result of the Chiefs defense stopping the Bills on the Bills final drive. You can't blame that on McDermitt.

Hey, just wanted to point out that all four of those losses this year where we were trailing at halftime against division winning teams in their buildings. There was also a health deficit in all of those games. I think the number one goal for the Bills this year, which has alluded us every year is to get that one seed that extra bye week and have all of the games go through Buffalo and then they need to get a little lucky, blessed and be the healthier team at the end of the year

I've tried again and again to maintain patience and openness towards Mcdermott, but honestly I think he's had all the chances he deserves. Sometimes the problem isnt something you can easily or even logically explain. Teams end up reflecting their HC's energy the same way pets absorb and reflect their owners. In this case, we have good but not great. We have an organizer but not a great inspirer. I can forgive and question this once, maybe 2, maybe 3, maybe even 4 years running. But at some point you just simply need to bite the bullet and make the change- albeit with a risk - instead of understand with confidence that you'll make the playoffs but lose in the div or champ game.. I think it'd be great for Allen (and Bills fans) to experience a change before Allen is out of his prime.

This kind of analysis annoys me tremendously!!!! The main thing to ascertain is what is the Objective? It it is to get to the Post-season? Is it to get the Division Title? Is it just to get as far as possible into the Post season i.e. 1 or 2 wins? Is it to get to the AFC Championship? Is it to win the AFC? Is it to get to the SB or even win it? If the answer for a franchise like the Bills (apart from those 4 SB appearances a franchise with a small market and tradition) is just to make good business and get the division and/or get an adequate performance on the post season... then we have been doing very well!!!! The FO and coaching staff are kicking it out of the park and all deserve straight AA's!!!! We can however forget about SB's and be happy that we are better than many others!!! However if the objective is SB!!!! Then I can understand the frustration against the FO and coaching staff. The failed badly with the team's first iteration for Allen.... and I have very little trust they will do any better for the so called second iteration .... Just look at key players in the last 8 years!!! Just look at the degrading Defense stats the last few years ... from a top 5 D to a mid teens D!!! Just look at the coaches decisions when it matters!!! On Offense repeating plays that are not working ... going away from a run game that was working.... not having enough variation on plays that can surprise the other team's D!!!! On Defense ... apart from the turnovers ....no pressure... no stopping the run .... no stopping the pass ... specially on 3rd Down!!!! Look at the 13 secs game .... look at the Texan's game ... look at the Bronco's game last year... look at how the Ravens got almost back in the game in the divisional round... look at how we could not stop the Chiefs when it mattered!!!! I can not give more than a B- to the coaching staff!!!

The only criticism of Brady would be in some of his play calling decisions. Consistently relying on the push tush to score on short yardage and goal line situations instead of trying to be more creative and pass the ball once in a while. It would help save the wear and tear on Josh Allen’s body. On the other hand, it was bad to call three pass plays against the Texans in a tie game and your team is backed up on their own three yard line with thirty seconds to go in regulation and have a good chance to take the game into overtime.

@ well that was Brady with those qb sneak calls. He literally called it at least 4 times. After it was stopped once, he should have had wrinkles let alone after getting stopped twice and having Josh fumble on one of them. Very strange play calling with the lead. He did the classic bang your head against the wall instead of being smart and adjusting to the best defensive coordinator ever. That’s not on McD unless you want to blame him for hiring Brady.

In my opinion, Smiley will be be on thin ice, a short leash, however you want to call it, he will have no room for error. It's gonna take one bad game and he will be GONE. McDermott is alot of things, but one thing you can't call him is "unserious". I think Coach McDermott has earned the benefit of the doubt.

It’s one thing if McDermott’s defense is just barely coming up short in the playoffs. But when this unit is literally setting records for most postseason points allowed it’s hard to just look past it. McDermott doesn’t do much to help the offense, he gives the OC almost all the control. And his defensive system clearly doesn’t work at all in the modern NFL when Buffalo plays good offenses. I understand he’s helped give this team a great structure and put together a great culture, but the way I see it, if he goes yet another season without making any adjustments to his defensive philosophy he should be fired. Unfortunately I doubt he’ll ever get fired as long as Josh Allen keeps bringing the team close to a Super Bowl

I feel like your giving joe brady more credit than hes really due, especially for James Cook, I think cook got better because of himself, yes Joe Brady called him plays, but nobody else ran those plays except for Cook. And Joe Brady didn't cause Allen too not fumble or throw interceptions, Josh Allen did, I give Joe Brady credit for what he deserves credit for but not individual play. That's on the players all day. Theyve worked for years too get to where they got today. Joe Brady just became OC before that he was an QB coach only, meaning nothing to do with James Cook.

In Bills playoff losses over the last six seasons, the team's defense has given up an average of 31.3 points per game which is a problem for a defense minded head coach in my view. That said, I believe the Bills far out-performed expectations for this past season given how much turnover they had.

@@Torre71 they won 13 games (should've been 14 if the 1 seed was still in play in week 18) with that approach. Gunslinger Josh had 20+ turnovers in 2023 and had to go 6-1 down the stretch to even get in the playoffs. They're 19-5 since the switch to the run heavy offense and that run game put up 29 against KC on the road in the AFCCG. Allen missed multiple throws that likely would've won them the game. They really just need a boundary field stretcher and they are in great shape offensively.
