I've been saying that most of the season. Old issues stayed as current issues. This is especially difficult after watching Manny Diaz's defenses. And sorry, no time left and the opposition has to pass to win and you can't cover. Blitz 8 players. Seal the outside and bullrush 6. They cannot stop that. Who thought Mario was so good?

The fact that they had so many shootouts shows the defense was incapable of shutting anyone down. No adjustments nothing new on the schemes played. Without Ward, this would’ve been a 5-7 team

I really believe that the defense didn’t buy in since the beginning because of the “CAM” factor! The DC didn’t or couldn’t present himself as a real game time DC, so the whole defensive unit laid back and depended on the offense, totally, which led to our detriment!

For one thing, they lost 2 tackling studs at the safety position and one good corner. These guys were not replaced. The Dline just didn't play as well. The big problem was not getting properly lined up as the ball was being snapped. Guidry lost his job for that problem alone.

I went back and looked at the Clemsom and FSU games from last year, and I have to say we remember Emory more fondly than we should have. I think his courage on that fourth down scramble is what we hung on to. In looking at those 2 games I did see that he was carried by the defense and the running game. His role was limited and the playbook was vanilla as heck for him. He made a few good throws in those games, but if we go back and look...he did not set the world on fire with is arm.

Sad for someone to lose their job, but they were terrible on defense. We wasted the talent of the offense because we couldn't stop anybody. I really hope we can bring in someone who can get the best out of what we have. Because the talent wasn't really great. We need to really have a defensive front, that will help the secondary if we are in the QB face all game.

It's not the coordinator. It's the culture. It's the country club atmosphere we have at the University of Miami.. Instead of recruiting stars try recruiting willing tacklers and film room junkies or students of the game.. Bring in a NFL coordinator with no ties and change the country club culture.. Lance's termination has been a long time coming. After the UF game, everybody knew what kind of 'defense' that we had. I didn't envy Mario for what needed to be done. The pursuit of excellence is never an easy job and with the defensive regression that we saw this past season, it was a necessary decision. Mario actually surprised me a little bit by not dragging his feet as long as I figured that he would. That tells me that he's serious about winning.
