Miami s defense didn t have holes. It had parking spaces for every Offensive player of their opponents to run through. No pressure on that QB. Complimentary football was mostly played by only Miami s offense. Defensive Coordinator must go !!!!!

I have to ask about why do we make such a big deal about recruiting ranking? Isn't it more about what the coaches do with the talent they have? I'm no expert but I find it hard to believe that all the top teams always land Top 10 classes. No doubt there is a lot of great talent out there who are available and not "ranked" by the so-called experts. It's all based on opinion. I feel a bigger need is to get a really good Defensive Coordinator and let him help bring the talent in. I'm never in favor of firing anyone, but the facts speak for themselves here.

But I think that he listened too much to Guidry's sunshine pumping and ignored Guidry's lack of ability to evaluate talent, implement all talent available, prepare and adjust accordingly. Lance was a major fail this year. Mario gave Lance far too much credit and belief when he took the 3 instead of going for 7. Lance's "defense" couldn't stop a runny nose.. but Mario trusted him to do his job and he failed at one of the most critical points of the season. The 10 - 2 record is deceiving. Shannon's offense, Cam Wards ability, and a LOT of luck gave us that 10 - 2. Had Shannon had a regular Joe QB1, with Lance's "defense", we're 6 - 6 at best.

A 10-2 record , from probably the easiest schedule in the ACC . No team ranked in the top 25. They should have been undefeated. Mario is the worst in game coach in college football. Cam Ward kept this team from losing 5 games.

@krakatoa923 I can't lay it all on Mario. A game was lost by Cam, but in that game.. had Mario pushed for the touchdown instead of settling for a field goal, the outcome may have been different. He (Mario) trusted in his 'defensive coordinator' to do his job.. and his 'dc' let him down. In that game Cam felt as he had to be Superman because of the defense. In the Syracuse game, again Mario trusted in his 'dc' to get a stop and again his 'dc' failed when it couldn't stop a runny nose. I blame Mario for trusting in someone that he shouldn't have. Outside of the UF game, Lance did a mediocre to horrible job. He cost Cam the Heisman and quite possibly the team a spot in the CFP. Mario has shown some improvement but he's got room for more growth. His 'dc' should have been left in south Canada and made to walk home.

If your take is giving up 21 point lead is all on the defense. Think about it both ways. A 21 point lead lost and tied up also means the offense couldn’t even score a field goal on 3 drives with a 50+ yard kicker after going 3 straight TD drives. So no hate for the offense when they stop scoring only hate the defense when they let a team score even though they held Syracuse long enough to get you a 21 point lead. The entire team played good up until they had that lead, then the entire team forgot how to play.

Unfortunately kids want their cake right now. They don’t want to help make it. If you are having a defensive problem you would think any kid who wants playing time and proving he is a great player would want to be a part of making the team great. The offense will still be good so if the defense improves we will be in the thick of it next year. Kids today are so easily swayed so it’s a wait and see situation. I hope they stay but if they don’t we will find the right kids that want to make Miami better than 10 and 2.

At some point we have to give our own guys a chance. We have bigger needs than quarterback such as shut down corners. Reminder four out of our five national titles were with first year starting quarterbacks in odd numbered years. I think Emory will be a very good quarterback if given the chance. Rather use that money to fill other needs. Exception being if say a guy like Quinn Ewers becomes available.

For everyone saying the defense lost us these games. The offense also stopped scoring after being up by 21. We have a 50+ yard field goal kicker and couldn’t even get close enough for him to put up points on 3 straight drives for Syracuse to be able to tie up the game. Also I get we had an amazing QB in Cam Ward and wanted to get him a Heisman. But we have 3 RB’s that accounted for roughly 1700 yards, 21 TD’s and an avg. YPC of roughly 6. We could have ran the ball and kept McCord from getting the ball just like GT did to Ward. Stop putting this all on the defense. We knew from the beginning of the year the defense was going to be questionable in the secondary before we lost arguably the best player in the secondary in game 1. So how could we really expect much from the secondary. Even with a bad secondary we still have a top 30 total defense. How do people not see the good in this program? There is a lot to work on but plenty good to build with also. Just focus heavy on the secondary in the portal. Get some good DB’s Safety’s and linebackers and the team is going to be fine.

I'm long time Canes fan from the Lou Saban days, but Jordan - you are way off on Syracuse being unconventional. Kyle McCord is one of the most accurate passers in the nation - when he has time. And he had all the time he needed after the 1st quarter. Georgia Tech used motion and it froze our DBs. They were clueless. Syracuse used motion at times and got the same results. But more often than not he picked up mismatches, players out of position, etc. And did you watch the game? Contested passes? Our Linebackers and DBs were never close enough to break up any passes. Kyle McCord does not throw jump balls. Syracuse went on a 60/40 pass/run ratio. Not 80% Indiana would light our secondary up, Oregon and Gabriel, same thing.

You can’t give a team like Cuse with a QB as good as Ward a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter and expect to win the game. Any defense cannot stop the perfect pass and there were plenty on Saturday.
