I would love a series on education around stats and terminology.. idk if you need visuals though for some topics, that would be helpful!

re: pitcher injuries, I'm pretty intrigued by what Tyler Glasnow said a year or two ago about the league cracking down on sticky stuff, and how he had to grip the ball so much harder and deeper in his hand to get the same control and spin he was getting before when he used sunscreen and rosin.

Mariners struck out 15 times in last game at Toronto. What are they afraid of in not playing Raley? That he might strike out?
@brucez96007 ай бұрын
Was watching another podcast where an expert TJ doctor was bringing up many of the same issues the guys said here. One thing he mentioned was that the batters get to call a timeout each appearance, but the pitcher doesn't get a breather if he needs it. The doctor said some of his MLB patients had said this is how the clock affects them, a pitching appearance is stressful and in previous years they would step off, take a breath and recoup, and go. Now, they can't. DNK but it makes sense to study. It's a complex issue, but it isn't good for MLB if their top stars are breaking down all the time.

This is one of the best, most concise, and interesting episodes of yours that I have seen in quite a while. Solid focus on issues I find relevant and that may be overlooked (like Raley’s playing time and scouting grades). Keep it up!

Worse case scenario by signing a full time DH would be: 1) Garver has a subpar year and doesn't produce near what was expected. 2) Raley doesn't get enough consistent AB and any chance to get into rhythm, largely due to Haniger having to be an outfielder with a full-time DH in Garver on the roster. 3) Haniger gets fatigued and worn down late in the season as a result of playing too many games in the outfield. I can't help but think if they acquired Haniger before Garver, would they have even decided to sign a full time DH, or have Haniger play the outfield sparingly and be primarily a DH? Garver needs to start hitting and Scott has to find a way so all 3 can contribute and stay healthy all season.

I mentioned to my friends that I felt Julio could use a trip to Driveline more than any other Mariner. He struck out 175 times last year, even with a phenomenal August. He is wildly inconsistent, and needs plate discipline to excell.

Ken Rosenthal wrote a really interesting piece for the Athletic about the arm injuries. Do you think it makes sense to have MORE or LESS spots to help arm injuries? The counter point being that if you can’t roster 8 relievers, teams have to prioritize players who can last longer. Or having more roster spots for more rest? But wouldn’t decrease max effort

Rodriguez has no strike zone recognition. He has been guessing since day one . Castilla just goes up there looking for the K and his pitch count is bloated every start . Dipoto getting rid of Kelenic. Hernandez and Suarez was a horrible gamble . Both Dipoto and buddy coach Servais gone in 24 .

I think this organization doesn't realize that a lefty facing lefty pitching is kind of a finalizing aspect of development and if ya always platoon them they never get a chance

Scott Servais is the definition of insanity. Trying the same thing and expecting different results. He’s had hair pulling bullpen management since year one, and has routinely miss-managed newly acquired personnel. It seems very much like he’s just treating basic concepts, like righties vs lefties and vise versa, like it’s gospel. Has absolutely no feel for the game in several aspects, which is especially sad considering he was a damn player in this league for years! He has to go after this year. Even if this team shows drastic improvement and make the playoffs. Personally, I’ve seen enough.

You think Stanton making less money will incentivize him to spend more? No. The simple fact is, there’s nothing you can do to force a team to spend more. So if you want to deprive yourself of live baseball to accomplish nothing, that’s cool. But that’s not going to do anything, because owners don’t care about us at all.

This team after all this building is lying to the fans abou the trades were pure salary dump and owner let Jerry do everything he wanted. I am sure he gave him a budget which forced Jerry to lose patience with Kelnic and the 40-50 home runs of Teo and Saurez. We are not going to be in World Series ever with this owner as he wants to be a billionaire and will never win the World Series with this poor me face he puts on. I really wish he would sell the team

Scott Servais is a TERRIBLE mgr. Hes been given 8+ years and made 1 wild card. Im fairly sure Jerry and Scott are both gone next year. I actually like Jerry, second best GM in team history after Pat Gillick. But seems like that ship has sailed too. But even bigger is the ownership group is all about profits, not winning. @bdyedlin yes it is I, Scott. Former big league catcher and current dad to everyone. And I'm here to tell you, if you think this team's performance is something I'm personally responsible for, then you are ignorant, innocent, or willful, of the fact that there are dozens of team members that formulate things such as lineups, plate approach, rotation and bullpen management etc. I certainly don't control my hitters being able to recognize a non-fastball pitch, nor do I have any control on not hanging sliders or walking 4 batters in a row. Now you may be wondering, "Daddy Scott, if you don't do all that stuff, then what DO you do?" Well, child, I'm basically more of what corporate heads call an HR Manager. That doesn't stand for Home Runs. It's Human Resources. I make adult men feel good about themselves and help facilitate a team identity and a sense of clubhouse togetherness. I also have some figurehead responsibilities like handing in lineup cards and taking questions from the media. Hope that clears up some confusion on who's to blame for this auspicious start to the season! -love, your father

Damn, Scott, that musta been weighing heavy on your mind. You wrote 3 eloquent paragraphs...But Scott, this is how pro sports work...If you dont win, you get fired. Look, you were a terrible catcher as a player, I think you would agree with that, and then to blame everything on everything else. Loser mentality Scottie, but I would expect you to throw your players under the bus. Like you always say "baseball is a tough sport". But look on the bright side, your Packers got Jordan Love and the Brewers bouta need a manager. Give it a shot. You had 9 shots here. I know, 1 for 9 is .111, slightly better then your career batting average, so in your world things are good. But these Mariners been losing since 77'. Thanks for contributing to that. My guy!
