The Pittsburgh Steelers have OTAs this week, but what will be their quarterback plan for Russell Wilson and Justin Fields? Chris Carter talks about what Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin have lined up, and why their approach isn't full faith in one of their quarterbacks, but a plan to hedge their bets that Wilson or Fields could succeed.
Also, Chris takes your questions on a mailbox Monday. What will the Steelers' offensive leadership look like and how will they build the offense around it? Is Najee Harris being disrespected ths offseason? That and more questions answered on this episode.

@AthonyChalk that's Tomlins Plan to have JF2 for the long term. But, the problem is that RW3 is going to flourish in this offense that is tailored made for his skillset. RW3 is 35 years old but he is in fabulous shape and health. He has lost some elusiveness, but Aurthur's Smith Offense is predicated on PA Pass. RW3 threw 26td's and 8 int's in a bad offense and bad organization with turmoil with the coach. RW3 will get the Steelers to the AFC Championship. Now, he's the issue do you resign RW3 at 36 for 2 or 3 years or do you tune the keys over to JF2 for the next 5 Years?

You guys keep up with this Justin Field stuff. That’s Russell‘s team bro. You guys keep going with all this Russ is going to kill it in Pittsburgh and be there for the next 2 to 4 years guaranteed they’re gonna sign him long-term after this season, he’ll put up 30 to 35 touchdown passes in this offense give you another 2 to 5 rushing touchdowns and stabilize the offense, this type of offense he’s built with the action ball and running plays. He is by no means at his age. He still athletic and still the ball around.

In my eyes it's not the question whether Fields is able to outplay Russ, it's the question if he can win the backup position VS John Rhys Plumlee. Plumlee is in size and skillset the perfect backup for a Russ tailored offense, he is a bargain and has also the potential to be a legitimate successor of a successful Russ era in Pittsburgh 3+ years down the road. Plumlee is the better passer than Fields, he is even the better athlete, his dash is 4'39 and he is extreme agile. Arm strength is the only argument for Fields, but Plumlee can evolve this aspect of his play.

Think of Fields as a late round draft pick with 38 NFL starts. He just turned 25. Nix and Penix are 24. Jayden Daniels turns 24 in Nov. We don’t know if any of them can play t the NFL level or what their shortcomings might be. Fields will be in a better offensive system, better weapons, and a better OL. If he keeps progressing with his game, we’ll be good with him long term.

Russ’s best attribute is his red zone conversions…. there’s no way I’m taking him out for those possessions. I could see your point in short yardage if we had an immobile QB but that’s not the case. Give me the better QB along with the running game behind an improved OL for short yardage.

Their's a balance you need to do when evaluating players. On one hand, you need to try and see "potential/talent" and be patient if that doesn't show itself right away...on the other ultimately, you need to have a "show me" line in the sand so you don't stick with someone too long that never realizes their potential. It's a tightrope act, for sure, and nobody has the right answers 100% of the time, even if they think they do.

@@donovansign3140 - I never wanted the Steelers to pick any QB from that class for several reasons: didn't think any were good enough and hated the position any would be put in; bad OL, bad OC and no confidence in the HC to mitigate any of those issues. Since they went with KP, I pulled for him as I'll pull for whoever wears the black and gold which is now Russ. I was not an advocate for Russ but the price point was right. Reason being, I think he's a one year guy and would prefer a more long term cheap option. In short, at that point, I would have rather lost with KP and moved on in a future draft than have another ~.500 season with Russ which is about where I think they'll be. What I'm an "advocate" for at the QB position, and have been since Ben retired, is having a cheap QB until the roster has been fixed (which should've been done during the Najee and Kenny drafts). With the rest of the North paying out big for their QB's, having the best overall roster looked to be very attainable. That would give them the flexibility to trade up for a top tier rookie giving them a large SB window or trading/signing an established vet for a SB run. I've been very consistent in this. When I said, "I like the direction"... I'm referring to Khan and Weidl fixing the past draft mistakes and filling in the trenches and overall roster construction. I've been very consistent in that as well.

The whole dis track on Naj is BS! Answer this; how did teams prep to defend against the Steelers for the last three years? Simple; just stack the line and pack the box. Bring your best thumper, 'cuz the Steelers are gonna try and run, with WHO playing line? I mean Mason Cole ended every play wandering around lost w/ his assignment ten yards away, or, he was pushed back into the QB, and/or tangled up the nearest guard while he collapsed. And HE'S the guy we kept! But hey, Naj ONLY gained a thousand yds. EVERY YEAR, so I guess it's somehow on home? And let's not forget the epic Canada brain trust calling plays that were always either telegraphed or just plain stupid. And then there's the run support that his teammate wide outs never provided. I mean the lying diva couldn't block w/ a gun to his head, and he set the tone for the rookie diva in training to half ass anything not coming to him the same way. Yeah, a 1,000 yd. runner on a so-called "team" that was usually only 4 or 5 other guys doing ANYTHING to help... like I said, this is a retarded topic. Lastly, you will not find a steady beast like Naj just hangin' out as an undrafted. Warren is a fluke, but he also doesn't pack the ass that Naj has between the tackles. If he can't get outside he doesn't gain squat, so we need the synergy of both.
