HELLO! Former PAN AM flight attendant - Miami base - I was hired at the tail end of PAN AM's life - The L1011's were long gone by that time - With American now - I have worked most all Boeing and Airbus aircraft and I have my favorites but the L1011 was my favorite to fly on for sure - I never understood why it didn't dominate the airline industry, especially given the DC10's many problems - The L10 was so ahead of it's time and a safe and very comfortable plane to be a passenger on - So many flights on Delta and TWAs L10's that I can't count - Unfortunately American went with McDonald and not Lockheed - They were amazing birds - I miss PAN AM and the glory days of flying - Always astonished when I see people wearing their pj's and flip flops board the aircraft - I remember people acting and dressing nicely

Take a shot every time they mention “clutter”. L-1011, now boarding nonstop to OCD!

aah, i love it that it started in the 60s, when l-1011 "standard" seating arrangement 2-4-2 was then squeezed into 3-4-2, even 3-4-3 and set the example of today airliners... 😅

theres no wide body jet in the 60s. the first wide body jet is the 747 which entered service with pan am in january 1970. now planes are wider than ever

Does the rear engine sit at an angle?
@Sashazur7 күн бұрын
The intake is higher than the exhaust (it’s not a straight through design), but I don’t think either of those are at an angle.

I flew an Eastern Airlines "high-density configuration" from NYC to Orlando circa 1980. It was full of Disney-bound kids like me and very unpleasant! I pitied the flight attendants.

Same, but I connected in ATL. Luckily that flight was only 1 hour long.

Remember the time when passengers should decorum in how they dressed and behaved.

If they only had additional jet engine choices besides the Rolls-Royce jet engines only offered, then this jet would've been successful.

Until the airlines realized that they could increase capacity by 15% by going to 2-5-2 configurations. Maybe that was to match the DC-10.

i love planes back then, they had more variety when all we have today is 737s and a320s. ALSO pan am is coming back this year :D

@@MahmoudKhaled-u4w So it would seem. Only for a one off series of VIP flights in July though, which no one except Elton John can afford - I wouldn't really class that as 'coming back'.

@@tjfSIM And all this when both the strange itinerary and outdated narrow-body aircraft type are not up to the legend either... Historical alright, but lacking in glamour, the very reason everyone still fondly remembers PAA.

@@Bellasie1 Indeed. Lacking pretty much all the essence of Pan Am. Considering they were pretty much responsible for bringing air travel to the masses, it really does miss the point completely. You'd think for the prices they're charging, they might have been able to find a 747-200 from somewhere. Seeing that repainted into the original Pan Am livery would have been something special.

Nonsense. Planes are vastly quieter and safer today, and travel is much more affordable. If you want luxury, flying business class is extraordinarily comfortable and far surpasses anything offered at the time this video was made.

@@athay14for what, deregulating airfare and making travel affordable? I’ll take that over a piece of prime rib and having to wear a suit on a long haul flight.
