Thank you for this informative video. Up until I watched this, I had no idea how locking tuners worked. I stupidly thought you first tuned your guitar THEN rotated the screw to lock them in place! You live, you learn! Thanks again for bringing me into the 21st century!

That was exactly what I thought they did initially too. I mean, that sounds more like what they should be doing.

I have always used Grover rotomatics and never had any slippage after learning the technique I currently use way back in the 80's. I am however doing a GGBO '21 build and am leaning towards a set of hipshot locking tuners.

Thanks for commenting, and good luck with the GGBO. Hioshots are meant to be great so I don't think you can go wrong with them.

@@DevilAndSons I'm good for a response every month or so - thanks! I don't know that Sire are blowing people away but I think they're hitting a quality to price point equation that is worth consideration. I have their Jazz bass clone, also and really enjoy it(no locking tuners unfortunately). Any experience with Sire?
@DevilAndSons Жыл бұрын
I actually don't know a lot about them. I looked up the models when you first commented. I'll have to give then a closer look. You get such good value for money with many brands these days, it makes me think that with the big ones you're paying for the name and history as the thing that puts them in a bigger price range, at least for some models.

Thank You for the video !! This is probably the most informative video that I've seen one the locking tuners.. Had questions because the locking tuners on the new 2023 Gretsch G6136 140 Double Platinum are different than the ones on my 1992 Ibanez UV7 & 1987 Peavey Tracer. The Locking Tuners, to me, have always been a pain that I try to avoid ; However, I like the guitars, so I must work with the locking tuners. I subscribed. Your explanations coupled with the demonstration of how they work are quite good.

I'm so glad I could help and thanks so much for subscribing. If you really like the guitars but find the tuners a pain have you considered swapping the tuners to something different?
@leonardcanter45967 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. It’s my job to work with the guitar until I get it right. I’ll just buy some cheap strings and practice until I feel comfortable and don’t break a string.
@DevilAndSons7 ай бұрын
@leonardcanter4596 cool. Just a heads up that cheap strings may be more likely to break. Really the strings shouldn't break at all unless you are taking them on and off repeatedly in which case the point where the string is held be the "bite" of the tuner may weaken.

Thanks for asking. You know what, I can't remember if I took any photos of it before I recently resprayed it! What an idiot. It's my own personal guitar and I have been using it to test finishes on. It's currently waiting for a buff having had a chameleon colour shift paint on.

When you use locking tuners, about how many wraps should each string have. I understand the thicker strings like low E, A and D, will have less than the higher ones, G,B, E. I am just wondering if you still continue to wrap the strings as you would using regular tuners. Thanks for the great video. Subscribed and will be following. Many Thanks…🎸✌️
@DevilAndSons Жыл бұрын
Huh, I should have said that. Technically you don't need to wrap it at all. I tend to pull the string through and hold it in as much tension as I comfortably can, lock the string, then turn to tune. More recently I haven't cut the strings straight away but that's because I tend to put the strings on and off again whilst I'm building and setting up. If I were just setting up I'd probably cut then before tuning, once the string is locked in place. Thanks for the sub, much appreciated.

It's a pleasure. Do you have locking tuners on your guitar or are you thinking of putting some on?
@michaelscott2269 Жыл бұрын
@@DevilAndSons I have two I’m thinking about adding them too. A Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster and a PRS SE Silver Sky. I don’t like to change strings honestly and I think the locking tuners will make string changes a bit easier as well as the benefit of tuning stability. The Fender have the knob on the bottom and are drop ins. The PRS look like old fashion tuners and have 2 screws on the back side and have the locking part topside. So I’ll experience both types. Which you showed in your video and now I am aware of how they both work…!
