I picked one up when it came out. They included the Covert Companion frame. Mine came with a keychain attachment. I just have the Rivpick and tensioners on it. Has been great.

I built the version of the covert companion with just the riv pick and turning tool set. It's a lot more suited for edc in that configuration. The other covert companion I built has all the bypass tools. It's pretty chunky and unwieldy, but it works for specific purposes. Not great for everyday carry though.

The first version you mentioned, isn't that basically slim pickins?

I always have a riv pick in my watch pocket. I bought a cheap pair of tweezers from amazon for $4 that came with a little leather sleeve, it fits great inside that (I threw the tweezers out); then I custom made a turning wrench out of bicycle spoke, one end is for TOK, one end for BOK, that also snugs inside the sleeve and it all works out very well. I resolved the issue of the rivpick not locking in place by buying some 3/8" (about 1cm) outside diameter vinyl tubing, and nipping a small piece off the end (about 5mm or 3/16"), I use that to slide tight over the end where the picks come out from the handle, and it holds the picks in place quite well while using.

I like the idea of the clear tubing.

I like the riv-pick and along with the tensioners, decoder, shim, traveler hook, and bypass driver form my everyday carry. It’s a great minimalist yet effective tool especially with the slim pickings; the slim pickings is what you’re looking for with just the holder, removable pick set, and turners. Given your like of the older 0.023” Southord Max I think you should try, if you haven’t, and review the Southard Max 0.020” picks; they provide great size and strength and outside of cost seem to be the best picks I’ve found as far as a complete size/set.

I just got the "Slim Pickings" which is the Riv-pick and the 4-tension tools - I hate the rivet on the Riv-pick.Seems really cheaply made and the picks don't really rotate smoothly. Perhaps after I've used it a while.

The Covert Companion with the Riv, Riz, and turning tools is an excellent EDC. I have mine rigged up so it can also hold a BOK turner as well. *_Much_** better than any of those awkward "jack knife" kajiggers.*

I have the frame for my keys, but the CI companion didn't do it for me so I passed on it. The Riv Pick looks like a solid stand-in for a full size pick. I have big fingers, the half picks, or bent picks are difficult at best to use. Great unbiased review, thanks!

As an add on it makes the Covert Companion not so COVERT 😂 As a little stand alone cover pick set it looks fantastic.

I got mine as just the slim pickins set and love it as a nice little edc back up. Picks well enough in most locks, though it's too thick for some keyways

Isn't the riv pick and turning tools only version called slim pickings? Iirc they sell that as well (they started after a lot of feedback just like this one)

I think the Slim Pickins is my next purchase. It’s an extremely practical edc kit.

I've been anticipating this review for awhile. I picked up the rivpick some time ago and mine actually has an issue where the retention tab for holding it in the covert companion doesn't have a sharp enough bend in it thus not grabbing onto the little divot in the retention mechanism and just kind of slides around. Definitely still usable, but a little disappointing. I actually use the full covert companion as an EDC since the height is still pretty small, but I imagine most people would be fine taking out some of the less used bypass tools to slim it down to a reasonable size.

Has anyone had any issues with the river becoming loose? I’ve had mine and used it religiously for a few days now and it’s becoming progressively looser.

Thought about this. The Rizz pick looks to be a slightly better option. I'm being selective when I use my riv pick.

Harry is starting to give off a real Rube Goldberg vibe. At what point does a 'Keychain' pick set become a burden instead of a convenient EDC item? Not sure? Here's a simple, light weight pickset you can clip into the giant monstrous Companion that'll tear a hole in your pocket by its weight alone.
