A few interesting counter-points to this attack: 1) It only works on locks mounted the 'correct' way up; so no Euro cylinders or padlocks that are being held with the pin stack facing downwards, because gravity will cause the outer key pins to drop with the outer drivers, blocking the shear to both the outer and inner pin stacks. 2) Actually making a tool that resembles a 5-armed piece of wire , that will fit around the warding of a MTL and also have the ability to raise the inner pins this far is VERY difficult to make. It is not impossible I do not think...but very difficult. 3) While this attack has ostensibly been fixed in more recent MTL's, I have noticed that many KIK's actually have holes in the roof of the chamber caps. I do not know why they do this, and if there is even the tiniest of space (and there has to be approximately 1mm instantly available from the chamber cap thickness and the ridge above it that keeps it in place) then this attack could still be on the table for KIK's with chamber caps like this. Anybody know why KIK's chamber caps have these holes in them? Seems totally pointless and makes the fix for this attack potentially useless!

Very cool so see the history and enhancement of pins. Thanks for showing us this cool lock. Did I get this right. To exploit the flaw you must first use this overset tool and then you would pick the (5-pin) lock?
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
Yes... overset the outer pins, turn as far as you can, then pick the inners (which is easy because they are now over the outer key pins).

Very nice pick, and explanation. 1 question though... So the drivers that you see with the inner pin afixed to the outter pin are subseptable to the overset tactic??
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
The ones with the inner pins attached are the new ones.

hi LPL, it looks like 6th inner and outer pins are of the same length, while looking on a key, is this not a compromise to security? does it make easier to pick, while you have inner and outer pins really close to each other in terms of their length, please? thanks

Not at all. There are not many people around that can open MTL's that quickly, and I'd venture that someone with criminal intent would be exceedingly unlikely to invest the hundreds of hours required to get this proficient!
