So much of the higher end Master products are solid and well built. But from what I'm seeing it all comes down to not wanting to spend the last $.40 on a decent lock core. Kinda like building an amazing mansion with 16 bedrooms and 12 baths but moving in with old rotting mattresses and rusted kitchen appliances. (I have seen this). This is what we call a million dollar body with a ten cent brain!!!

1 position tubular locks always make me smile .. btw. you mentioned several times that impression tool only works if the springs are all same tensions and driver pins same length. Can you elaborate ? IMHO impressioning should work as long as the pins bind when pushed beyond correct height.
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
This is not impressioning like you would see in a more conventional lock. The tools work so quickly because they apply equal FORCE to each pin stack. As such, each of the springs are compressed the same amount. If there is a long key pin, then the spring is already compressed more, and tool the tool moves it less. If there is a short key pin, the spring is less compressed to begin with, and the tool moves that pin stack more. When all of the springs are the same strength, and all the driver pins are the same length, this has the effect of aligning the breaks in the pin stacks along the same plane… a little bit of jiggling aligns that plane with shear line and the lock opens. ... at least that's my understanding of why they work. I hope that makes sense.

While this particular lock was clearly lacking in anti-pick security, it makes sense that their warranty specifies "by force" -- if only to demand evidence of lock compromise. If the lock is bypassed in a way that doesn't leave a mark, how can you prove it was the lock that let you down?

This is exactly what drew me to love complicated locks, destructive entry is proof of a crime and then insurance does the heavy lifting.

Watching some of your older videos, it appears as though tubular locks are a waste of time and money. Are there any decent ones on the market, or is this a lock type to avoid? Seems like none have variable tension springs, and can easily be single pin picked. Love the channel!

Sorry your tool was missing the center pin. The way that was handled is one of the reasons that I am no longer doing reviews for them. Very upsetting. As for replacing it, I would try using it without it first. Most of the time, it will work just fine. See my video #224.

@Peterowsky7 жыл бұрын
In pretty much every video you say you would not recommend the lock you picked, so what would you recommend? It's a cheap shot to say you won't recommend something but then recommend nothing. Someone with dozens if not hundreds of specialized tools and years if not decades of practice picking locks does not recommend this, but won't recommend anything. Do you see the issue with that? "If I can crack it, I would not recommend it"? Is that your deal? No locks are good enough? No locks can be recommended? I have not seen you recommend any lock in almost a hundred videos watched, and any google search for it turns out NO recommendation for any lock, of any kind, though there are some recommendations for lock-picks, illegal as they are in so many places. Goddammit dude. Nothing is a decent defense for you. Gun locks, padlocks, brake locks. That bothers me to no end, not even a "lock I'd rather leave alone than expose myself picking" scenario?
@harpgregory677 жыл бұрын
one again, try the Xena alarm disk. there are several variances of the lock. it's a multi lock design. very hard to pick and they have an alarm that's pretty loud..

This scares the hell out of me. As Harley uses barrel style keys on their ignitions on many motorcycles.... I'd like to see you try and get a Harley ignition unlocked, and theft of bikes is huge in some metro areas and it seems that often the thief is able to ride the bike away and I'm unsure from the videos I've seen if the owner left the ignition unlocked or the thief got it unlocked.

+Drew w I've got a Harley ignition switch inbound... stay tuned. 👍

I'd hate to approach my motorcycle (back when I rode in the late 90s) and see *additional* disc brake locks. I'd have to leave my own lock in place, have my motorcycle towed home, and then have to remove the thief's lock(s). I wish you could disassemble this lock to improve it.
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
Oh, snap! If it can't be picked, field expedient way to remove these might be a diamond grit wire saw... hidden somewhere on your bike. Stick it through the top of the slit, and saw it in half.
@BL-yj2wp7 жыл бұрын
Well, physical security might be more important than pick resistance, but if a lock has such a glaring weakness, it is a flawed design and not to be used at all. Or: typical Master Lock.

at 5.23 you remark that pin 3 felt overset. How does that feel - like there is no 'rattle' on the keypin as it's trapped above the sheer line?
@lockpickinglawyer7 жыл бұрын
On these locks, a set pin will have a little springiness to it. I pushed it past the springiness, and it caught (i.e., overset). The only way to recover is to release a little tension and hope you don't drop too many pins before the one you are trying to release.
@gilbertodiazcastro88716 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you would be able to single pin pick this lock in a realistic environment. By this I mean mounted on a disk, less than 18” from the ground while you kneel next to it having to deal with a loose lock flopping around and looking around to make sure you don’t get caught. I’ve noticed most good lock pickers like you, Bosnian Bill and others do a great job at picking but never do it in a realistic environment.
@michealpersicko9531 Жыл бұрын
The thing is most thiefs are looking for the bike that's the easiest to get into usually by brute force means. A thief isn't going to go through all that trouble if the lock on the bike next to the one with this lock on it looks like it would be easier to bypass.

Nice picking LPLAWYER! It's obvious by the warranty that Master lock Co has over spent money on the structural integrity of the locks and must not care at all that 90% of these high structural integrity locks have the worst piece of shit core thus the warranty states indirectly by the lack of warranty coverage if the lock is manipulated and only if physically destroyed by force. I am beginning to wonder why Master is still in business. Although, some people can't afford the real high security locks so that has to be the only thing keeping them in business.
@Brianck19717 жыл бұрын
Drew Estes The reason the warranty does not cover picking is to stop you opening the lock with the key and claiming the lock was picked.
@drewestes20107 жыл бұрын
Brian C That sounds like you are looking for a reason to glorify this Master pieces of shit. They don't warranty against picking because they know how sub par these products are and they don't want to pay for their lack of high security shit they call high quality. Master knows all to well that the company is focused on visual attraction of what seems like a good product that is frankly all shit products which only have the visual attractions of shiny and pretty products and won't focus on the actual fact that their security is shit!

I honestly wonder why Master haven't taken action against your videos yet, you always put them in a bad light (and with good reason) and show to the general public how crappy their locks are. You would expect a big company like that to file lawsuits for stuff like this. Perhaps they don't even know about your videos?
@markleng677 жыл бұрын
I'm not a lawyer but I play one one the internet. I don't see how you can be the object of litigation for telling/demonstrating factual information. ML makes a LOT of money selling poor security locks and the market keeps buying them. For that corporation to litigate against Bosnianbill or LPL, they risk bringing down upon themselves a lot of exposure that I don't think they are really chomping at the bit to get. I think they want that particular dog to stay lying peacefully.
