@olivialambert41244 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. There's a small chance the pins are in the way but theres also the very real chance the lock can be forced and the springs mangled. If picking in the wild one can expect a prepared picker to try and force the lock every so often to bend the springs. If the lock wasn't raked so incredibly quickly anyway. All in all a completely half assed design from someone who doesn't understand lock security more than your average youtube viewer.

The Huno is such a cool looking look. I really fancy shutter style locks. When you pulled out that amazon special dimple rake it made me chuckle because I have that exact same set of picks with those odd greenish turquoise colored handles. It was the first kit I purchased when I first started picking lo those several months ago.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
I'm a huge fan of the Huno (and, more generally, shutter locks), but wish so badly that I could slip in a tougher core. I understand that there are a limited number of people who can open it in a reasonable amount of time... but annoys me that this lock is accessible to anyone who is will to put in the practice time. CEN 5? LOL. As for the picks, those huge sets of Chinese picks are good for one thing -- experimenting with lots of different profiles for very little money. Many of the picks will make no sense, until you happen across some oddball Chinese lock for which it is perfect. This is a great example of that. That dimple rake is workless for 99% of the dimple locks out there, but it opens this one in under 10 seconds every time.

It does hurt the credibility of this video in my view. I had no doubts that the Chinese lock was of inferior quality before watching. After he repeatedly refused to attempt attacks against the Italian lock, it created doubts... I'd be won over if LPL: 1. Demonstrated the difficulty of raking the Italian lock 2. Showed us the pins inside the Italian lock I'm just gonna avoid both in the meantime. Seems like the only way to get a quality lock is to buy a sturdy one and then custom-pin the core.
@JaakkoF5 жыл бұрын
Considering the core is cast, it is not at all strange shape. It comes from the die casting requirements of having a part that is mostly just one thickness or at least avoiding thick cross sections, as they tend to cool last and will pull the surrounding, already solidified material inward, thus creating voids, cracks, porosity and malformed parts. The other very good reason is cooling time - less metal, less time to cool and get it out of the mold, thus speeding production considerably. And with less metal the part doesn't cost as much. Should this method be used in a place like this? Almost without a doubt no, but it is an interesting way of making the part and in some other cases makes sense to cast almost net shape and only machine what is needed (like the Abloy PL3020 padlock body, cast brass but the inside is machined). Thanks for the interesting video!

Hi Harry, This business of too shorter drivers has become a pet hate with me. The girls/guys on the assembly lines, I'm sure, don't understand the ramifications of this problem. The key works O.K., move on to the next one! Picking shows up the problem, and so will the wrong key that is close. We are seeing this in key in knob locks from China. The drivers in one lock will be O.K. Next one the pin holes in the plug will be drilled slightly deeper - not by much - and with the key removed, one two or more drivers are level or below the shearline. Original key works fine. The lock you showed with the cupped drivers, makes you wonder do they make longer cupped drivers? I guess they should. Well explained and demonstrated. Regards, Brian.

I'm right there with you on this one, but it shouldn't surprise us. Put in perspective, it's really one of the most minor security flaws in most Chinese locks (the one that gets me the most is parts marked "Hardened" that are not). It is, however, one of the most annoying to me as a picker!
