The main advantage of lures on Salmon is the distance you can cast and a good outfit will double bait . When they sit out a bit a good lure outfit will get close enough to get a chase and strike as you're covering more water .

Yes when I was practicing yesterday with my new Seabass rod and a lure I was surprised at how far I could cast out even in windy conditions (a side wind). With practice I reckon I could probably cover considerably more water.

@@fishingsister Double the casting distance of bait and if you run braid on the reel the skies the limit. Learn a few casting techniques and in no time you'll be sight casting schools for fun . One rod a light backpack with a few essentials scanning for schools from the cliffs , heading down to the black mass you spotted you flick of the backpack unhook your pre rigged lure and smash it out there . Can't help you with the backpack on the way back though .

I can totally relate to this! A couple of friends and I were at Waitpinga once, and everyone on the beach were catching heaps, and we caught nothing! Personally, I don't like fishing situations where you have to cast miles out. I'm surprised they didn't like your fish baits. If it's any help to you, all the salmon I've ever caught have been on squid. Let me just say, your videos get better every time! The only thing that bugs me, is that they make me wish I was fishing!😂

What was interesting about this day was that we were using the same Salted Salmon bait that we used at Back Beach at Streaky Bay and we caught heaps there at Back Beach and none at Locks Well🤔

I feel like you need days like this to keep you wanting to challenge yourself and learn. Amazing footage of locks well. Shows how unforgiving it can really be. I keep forgetting to ask have you looked into changing from Mono to Braid? At the end of the day it’s personal preference.

Yes unforgiving is a good description of Locks! Have only ventured to braid a couple of times. Got horrendous tangles but it was in turbulent conditions. Is braid your favourite or does it just depend?

I have braid on my Spinfisher reel, and I like it. But I need a 2nd spool so I can change over to a lighter braid for smaller fish....do you change spools at all or just use a different reel?

I use only braid with leader these days. Cast longer distances, bite sensitivity, fit more on the spool. Negatives are wind knots, tangles but the technique is very different to Mono. There is reels out there that you can purchase extra spools. I’ve just set myself up with multiple reels with different braids. Not the cheapest but certainly the easiest! If wind knots are putting you off look into braids with a thicker diameter to break strength. Daiwa JBraid and power pro are fantastic!

Definitely not a pro here! Just started young with dad on the boat and then ventured into land based by myself like you guys did and built up from there. You both are doing amazing so far! Love it 😊

You're spools need more line on them. For longer casting.

Apparently the salmon are there all year round. They school in winter so there's more of them, but people say they have great sessions in summer too. There's so many great fishing spots on the EP. Where are you going to go?
