I put Yangus Axe mid tier since it also has executioner for metal slime hunting. I bumped up Red Fans to top tier since it has a kazing type skill useful in post game. I put Jessica staff above Jessica Whip with the nerf to her twin dragon lash. I moved Hero Spear to god tier since it has skills to deal with boss battles random encounters and metal slime. I think I was more generous with this one since this is one of my favorite games of all time. Also noticed multiple Jessica jiggles. You are truly doing the Lord's work.

I agree with you. Axe for mid-tier is good. Helm Splitter, Axes of Evil, and Executioner are all good. Having characters that can Kazing (or its equivalent) are very important during the post-game because healing and spell damage doesn't scale at this point in the series.

No mention of Jessica Fisticuffs? Magic Burst and the passive dodge effects she gets for being unarmed is her best setup when combined with the Divine Bustier. If you decide to farm agility seeds for her you can make her evasion even better which is invaluable in boss fights.

Easier to poison with swords for 170 per turn on Dhoulmagus. Don't need to waste 100 skill points, let alone falcon knife attacks twice so better than the whip. Yangus' scythe kills groups of metal slime too

Oh, the memories. I would play again but I don't want to dig my ps2 put from inner my bed. It's safely stored in a milk crate. Not the flimsy ones, the ones that make crappy tv stands and seats. I also hate the feel of the ps2 controller now. Got spoiled by the ps4 and swicth.

"If you want AoE for hero, just go bare handed" What? Fisticuffs Hero is atrocious. Thin Air comes in at 42 skill points which is 2~4 levels of investment less than just going for Super Throw in Boomerangs, which doesn't have a capped Damage range like Thin Air, which itself does more damage against most enemies than Boulder Toss. Fisticuffs is SO bad on Hero, it basically relegates him to being a Timbrel of Tension user, since you can have him use Omniheal and then Multifist when you hit 50, which really only has advantage when stacked against Gigathrow for Single Target damage, against two post-game enemies, being the Darksteel and Divine Dragons in the Dragovian Trials. Gigathrow is straight up, his most useful Ultimate move across all his skill trees, since it does more damage than the other moves, while Super Throw outpaces damage of Spear's Lightning Storm and Sword/Courage's Gigagash. While we're at it, Knives/Swords Jessica is better than Whips and you should basically always invest into Staves no matter what, since it gives you new support spells. Low Rolling her damage, Jessica with a Dragon Slayer is going to outdamage Gringham Whip in the Dragovian Trials if she uses Toxic Sword vs Serpent's Bite. Axes for Yangus having Parralax for tough mobs is really good if they're immune to instant death and Helm Splitter is legitimately that good, combined with Executioner allowing for MKS hunting earlier than Lightning Thrust for Spear Hero. Due to how damage ranges work, the utility of Staves for Jessica is being able to Magic Burst for several thousand damage at 100 Tension in a single turn and recover it fairly easily with the use of items, while due to how Oomph interacts with multihits, Twin Dragon Lash does less damage. How is Morrie's club better than Yangus' Axe build? It's the same skills but worse, with the only difference being their 100 point mastery build, where the AoE portion of Feel the Beat is less relevant than the base 50% damage increase of Typheous' Maul, which is felt even harder, when Morrie has 65 less strength than an unseeded Yangus while at max level. Not only are Morrie's Club skills generally worse than Yangus' Axe skills, their respective 50/50 crit skill comes way earlier for Yangus (66 vs 93 in Yangus' favor).

Actually for Jessica Twin Dragon Lash have heavily nerf compare to PS2 version, if it was PS2 version I would have agree Whip is her best build. But for 3DS I think a Staff + Barehanded is her best build, Staff gives her a ton of support ability and she is definitly a better support for the first half of the game, and increase her MP when equipped with a staff, Barehanded increase her survability with Evasion boost (which stack with the Evasion boost of her armor) and unlock the skill Magic Burst which is extremely powerfull skill and late game turn her in a powerhouse. And in all honnestly I think we had to considere the Courage build with Hero, instant god tier for me as it is the best healer in the game bare none Omni Heal with Half MP cost is ridiculous, Half MP cost which affect ALL his skills by the way and it can act as a tank with Defending Champion.

Knife Jessica I argue is even better, Sudden death's modifier recieved a a buff to the point it may exceed twin dragon lash in PS2, the slaying weapons can push the modifier even higher and blizzard blade can work with it as well

@@nightwish1453 Admitaddly haven't try her Knife build, also didn't know about Sudden Death increase multiplier on 3ds until very recently, all website back when I played the 3DS version were erronously putting the PS2 multiplier, so if I ever replayed this game definitly will have to try a Knife build with her.

personally I think most of this is fine other than just switching Jessica Whip and Jessica Knife, AOE attacks are really only used for random encounters and spells can cover that (even though most of the time offensive spells are kind of lousy sometimes). The modifers for the whip skills got a big nerf with Knives now being superior. Jessica's strength is fairly low but unlike other DQ games seeds aren't as character specfic like DQIV so it doesn't matter much. The swords she can use have some cool add on gimmicks to them and doesn't suffer for what Red is built. The slaying weapons can push the modifer even further as well as blizzard blade for the extra hit. Never tried Morrie with clubs and that maybe to do with me being desperate at postgame builds. Red's fan does have a kazing attached to it so spending some skill points will have more of a benefit then the whip which is just damage like the knives

Well all party members are good since all of them have at least 1 attack that CAN damage Metal slime types however ONLY Axe's/Spears get the critical hit or miss skills.

I do for this game since the best skills to kill even the Metal King Slimes are the Critical hit or miss ones all other attack skills to kill those are worthless. Even Meta; Slash/CUT sucks it only does 1 to 2 damage to the Metal Slime types and the MKS's have like 20 max HP.

@@veghesther3204 but outside of that it doesn't mean much, for bosses spears are just ok and by postgame Hero's strongest weapon that has the highest atk is a sword not to say spears are bad they are good but at some point you may end up only using them for grinding and that can take a hit

Spear hero is the best for most of the game, tough for post-game since Dragovian Trial are all dragon type boss Sword Hero with Dragon Slayer and Dragon Slash is stronger and if you up his strength with Seed then eventually Falcon Slash + Uber Falcon Blade become his strongest attack.

Ok so I'm gonna have to disagree with you regarding Jessica's Knife/Sword build. Even without the 100 strength seeds that you mentioned, Jessica's single target damage with the combination of the blizzard blade sword and the sudden death skill easily eclipses the damage that Red can do with blade cascade. The sudden death skill deals 180% damage in the 3ds version (most wikis still have the old ps2 version's 150% damage listed) and the blizzard blade sword deals about 50% of the damage done in an attack as additional damage. Combine this with oomph and Jessica will get about a 5 times multiplier on her damage when using the sudden death skill with the blizzard blade. Now I know what you're thinking, "What if Red uses the blizzard blade with blade cascade? Wouldn't that be more damage?" The answer is no because the blizzard blade only procs on single-hit attacks. Oomph also only doubles the damage of the first hit on multi-hit moves, so it basically only adds an additional hit to Red's blade cascade, which hits 6-8 times with a .4 multiplier for each hit. Red's max multiplier with oomph and hitting 8 times would only be about 3.6, which is lower enough than Jessica's 5 times multiplier that the difference in their strength stats is negligible. Jessica learns all of her damaging spells regardless of which weapon you decide to put points into. Most of these spells either hit a group of enemies or all enemies, which makes the whip's standout feature (hitting all enemies in a group) not as valuable. The whip's twin dragon lash ability used to be super good as it was two hits at 150% damage each. With oomph, this would be about a 4.5 multiplier (oomph only affects the first hit). This is only a bit lower than the max multiplier on swords, but the 3ds version nerfed twin dragon lash to only 75% damage on each strike. This would make it only a 2.25 multiplier with oomph. Swords will out damage whips for single target attacks without sacrificing Jessica's ability to hit groups of enemies. You might claim that the whip lets Jessica hit a group of enemies for no mp cost, which makes it useful for conserving mp. I would argue that Jessica's large mp pool coupled with the fact that leveling up in the 3ds version restores all hp and mp makes it very unlikely that she will ever run out of magic. You said that Jessica's magic dps is no joke in her staff section of the video, and that her whip build can deal massive damage while still benefiting from her magic. These statements imply that the weapons affect her magic in some way. This is simply not true. Magic damage is largely set in stone with only a very slight increase for some spells with the wisdom stat. Staffs, whips, and swords only add attack not wisdom, so the damage from spells will be the same regardless of which weapon Jessica has equipped. In conclusion, Jessica's Sword build gives her access to the highest single-target damage in the game while still letting her make use of her spells because there is no build that actually lessens her spell effectivness. Sorry for writing you a novel.

Jessica's magic damage IS a joke. Unfortunately, this wasn't the point in the series where magic scaled so it always did damage within a set range. It is passable during 75% of the main game damage wise but might as well not exist in post-game. Really, the best thing about the staff build is the support it gives. It lets Jessica heal and gives her Kasnooze, I think. And that spell works on the final post-game boss and is the best way to beat it.

Kasnooze is 68 points into the Sexappeal skill line. But max Staff is good for passive MP regen, +100 MP, and Kazing in case someone gets one shotted. In the original PS2 version, you only needed 23 in Whips for a boss fighting weapon otherwise, so max Staff and enough points for Charm Attack 2 (78) in Sexappeal was fine. But in 3DS version, Knives are much better and Twin Dragon Lash got nerfed, so Knife/Sword takes precedence.

I went scythe as Yangus can go far with that farmer scythe as its rather rare and you need to go through alot to get an upgrade. You literally skip those when you go far in the monster Arena. Which if hilariously OP is behind some of the toughest sidequests. And thats thr B tier reward. That Hero spear is what can carry the team for 3/4 of the journey of the cursed King

Just finished DQ V and absolutely loved it. My first DQ game. Are all the other DQ after DQ V somewhat connected to one another? For example, if there is a fabled legendary hero in DQ VI, would it be Parry from DQ VI?

I can answer that for you: no. IV, V, and VI are often dubbed the “legend of Zenithia” because Zenithia, the Zenith Dragon, and the Legendary Hero are really its only connecting tissue, barring a few extremely subtle references (like Estark showing up as the postgame boss in V). Beyond that, there’s no continuity between the games. I believe the first 3 have much more continuity, though I’m much less familiar with those. Trust me, I would have been very happy with specific references to past Legendary heroes in V (Solo) and VI (Perry), but if memory serves, no such thing exists.

@@David_the_Psalmist late comment but actually they are connected with very strong implications on how the events of it game through it's as about the same as the other trilogy. it goes by VI > IV > V and there is a bit evidence to support that's undeniable such as the egg hatching at the end of VI is Doran the gold dragon that appears in IV as well as a dungeon in IV the zenith tower returns in V but it's rudown and old. in VI in the postgame for the ds remake you can go to reaper's peak and a woman asks on how you want to turn the town into, near future has all the characters from IV show up and far future has the characters in V show up. very subtle but it lines up perfectly with no contradiction

I disagree, Fisticust for Yangus is probably his best build until you recruit Morris and Red. Jessica Sexy Appeal is pretty good for Support at the end game when she is stuck in between Sup, Dps, healing or just have Hero Omniheal but that's the problem some bosses will outspeed you and the turn order wouldn't be the same so you can have Jessica die early or hero, Post game is no joke.

Passion build is mainly for Tension rising, in post-game you can raise the Tension of any character to 50 or even 100 if you're lucky in 1 single turn thanks to Morrie. Also for Morrie I found his Claw build better, especially in the post-game he get access to a Claw that increase his damage against Dragons very usefull for Dragovian Trials and also get a skill that straight up ignore ennemy's (except Metal Slime), very usefull for some bosses with high physical defense.

I don't really agree with some of these choices to be honest. Fan Red and Axe Yangus are both very viable throughout the game, albeit very expensive builds. I also dislike the fact you didn't really go into detail with the Fisticuff builds or the mixed builds at all, since the game is built around experimentation and kind of stops you from dumping all your Skill Points in a single specialization tree until you get to a certain level. If we're talking about actual viability throughout the game though, I'd say: PS2: Jessica > Hero > Yangus > Angelo 3DS: Red > Morrie > Hero > Jessica > Angelo > Yangus

As for me, if you are not an avid graphic artist or have not played the PS2 version, then you must familiarize yourself with the 3ds version, since there are various improvements and additional bonus content up to the new ending with Jessica, I’ll tell you right away, if I’m not mistaken, then in versions for 3ds boss damage and hp increased but I'm not sure although the final boss has hp increased to 6500 damage increased and defense decreased, although without timbrel of tension it will be problematic to defeat him if you just want to go through the story with little or no use of alchemy and playing with a standard team, although there will be no problems with this joke, just in the end you can do it, in short, verdict 1, both versions are good, but everyone should play in 3ds version
