Quick note on Estelle, she works very well in AI if you set to use arts only and keep their distance. Otherwise, yes, she does just charge in trying to land a hit and do very little damage compaired to anyone else.

Yeah same. I'm surprised people have trouble with her, I set her AI to concentrate on healing and push her avatar on the strat map to max distance away. Then she does her job perfectly. She stays far away from enemies, runs away if they get too close, and uses healing spells over and over.

Yeah. Honestly I do recall having issues with her when I played the original and Karol was often our main healer. But When we played DE, Estelle worked very well and made a fine classic healer. Still often had Karol around as a secondary healer though.

Karol is the strongest character in the game because he deals ridiculous damage and has a 90% defense reduction arte, he is so broken he is the only character that needs to use dmg reduction skills to have somewhat interesting boss solos where you dont deal 50k dmg per hit. Once you start to play baseball he trivializes the game, assuming you learned manual cancel.

Karol breaks the game, he is God tier, he's one man's army, he's got dps buff debuffs heals and can tank.

I recently beat Alexei after a bunch of tries and grinding. I read to ditch Estelle and replace her with Karol. Don't get me wrong i use everyone but man it was a night and day difference lmao. Karol helped us wipe the floor with Alexei.

Problem was that other party member can do his job better. Better healer? Yuri, Flynn and Raven. Better DPS? Yuri, Flynn, Patty, Repede and Judith (Why? Because they hit faster and they are adding up damage better than Karol overall.)

@@kevin55091 Simple, Yuri got access to Guardian Field and Glory. Guardian Field not only healing himself and ally around him (and around the axis as well), it also has a very fast recovery rate and recovery frame. Flynn also has Guardian Field making Karol became useless. With Glory, Yuri has super armor as long as he's on the ground (meaning no interruption from the other goons.) So yeah, Yuri is already a combo monster with high damage skill like Shinning Fang and its altered variation with Dragon Swarm, Final Gale, Frigid Blast and other higher tier artes. Karol is too slow and does not have fast DPS even though his individual blow deal better damage. Raven Love Shot after 200 uses will shoot 3 shot with fast recovery and he could use it in quick succession. Not to mention amazing support stunt lock skills that could easily achieve fast fatal Blow like Azure Heaven, Falling Star and Dark Chase. In the original, my team was Yuri, Repede, Judith and Raven. After I got hit by Brave Vesperia, Raven and Repede heal use to full like 2 secs because of how fast Raven rapid Love shot. In the definitive Edition, Yuri, Repede, Flynn and Raven could easily did that with faster time since both Yuri and Flynn got Guardian Field.

I have the most fun playing as Judith. She's a little tricky to learn, but loads of fun once you do. It's doesn't matter that her AI sucks, because I'm always controlling her. P.S. Estelle's AI can be adjusted to make her a functional healer when not being controlled.

I usually put yuri, rita and Estelle in my main party and rotate the fourth so everyone gets equal playtime and experience. Plus I sometimes get a better idea how they can work together.

Nice List for Vesperia. I kinda put the game on hold for the moment to play other rpgs. I'll definitely use this as reference when I continue the game. I wanted to use Rita very early, but I had no idea how to use her. It be cool to see a Tier list video for either Tales of Hearts R or Tales of Graces f.

Strongly disagree with Judith's placement, DE has leader boards for the arena and the best Vesperia players excel with her more than everyone except Rita. It's like Bayonetta in Smash 4 just because the regular person tends to KO themselves doesn't mean they are broken in the right hands.

It's a good point and the one I tried to make at the beginning of the video. This is not an easy game to rate. Judith is deadly in the right hands true but these tier list are meant to take in everything possible. This includes new comers playing for the first time and veterans of the series as well. But then again, I have been known to get some stuff wrong. Thanks for the feedback and supporting the channel!

I think this might be affected by the Riven effect. Popularity means that the character is expected to be mastered to a higher degree than others. Like how in LoL Riven is by far the weakest character in terms of just power, and yet always manages good win rates for her strength, while the best of Rivens can take on all her counters and those way stronger, and win lane vs them, except maybe Jayce, but he's just beyond ridiculous. Judith being the most popular would definitely be the most mastered, people put so much more time on her no matter how good she is. Although outside of that, there is also the fact that the game has large bosses. Judith can function against them but she has a much more difficult time comboing them infinitely. Arena doesn't have that problem, but if those speed runners try running the memories dungeon as Judith compared to others, she likely falls behind.

from my own experience i could have easily placed Karol in top or god tier, he has skills like steel defense, and mighty charge, moves like reaper knock, a pretty good healing move, and insane power. easily my favorite to play as! but i could be bias, he was just my favorite character in general and i couldnt really play the other characters very well although good tier list, enjoyed watching, and using it as a reminder that i need to try to play Patty again

The real problem with Karol is his TP use, but pays off with useful buffs and debuffs, and slow but great damage outputs. He's just way less appealing in combat than Yuri or Flynn and that sucks because he needs more love :^[

Your Estelle issue is entirely your own fault. Tales of Vesperia has like the best strategy menu in the Tales of series, you can easily make Estelle into a strong holy mage and healer by turning off her melee artes and picking the right settings in Strategy. In reality, Estelle is by far the best healer in the game, and she is the tankiest character in the game. Not a mid tier character at all, she's definitely better than Yuri and Flynn. I'd also say while Karol on your first playthrough is pretty bad, when you complete the game, and unlock all of his skills, he's significantly better than people he used to be worse than. He'd be a mid tier character, better than Repede and Judith, and on AI exclusively better than pretty much every character in the game except Estelle, Rita and Patty. Those 3 are too good for Karol to beat because you can play another character and cast their game changing artes without swapping.

For me I’m playing as Rita but I do have Estelle in my team , but also Karol and also Patty and that’s it for my team. But I don’t wanna have Yuri and Flynn and Raven and the dog. But those 4 will be as the backup team. But it would’ve been better if the game started out with Rita , but instead of having Yuri as main hero. But having Karol to teach about the Monsters to the team. And being more opened to Synthesis.

Yeah.... my friend is cursed and he uses Patty. However, with my main Repede being the first one to get the second mystic arte, the taunt and the skill to fill the over limit gauge faster, Patty's instant skills makes her the most useful character in the team. Awesome heal, buffs, debuffs, crowd control, makes the team deal tons of damage easily, her mystic arte is RNG based but it can sometimes save everyone, her secret skill works very well in Necropolis of Nostalgia because the x10 gald/exp procs on all fights and she can even bring everyone to over limit 1-4 at the same time! Combined with Yuri and the ring that reduces her TP cost by half, she can spam her skills without even worrying about the cost! However it can be risky on human bosses because it can allow them to use their mystic arte...Our definitive team has always been Patty, Repede, Yuri and Rita.

Played through on 360 originaly, party used then was yuri estelle reorder and judith. When I replayed on vesperia, I used the same party until I got Flynn then swapped him in instead of Judith. Eventually I hope to get enough practice playing them that I could main reorder or judith main and A.I. the rest. Rita is so broken it's almost better to use stand alone and play fights solo with her, though brining a body blocker/healer isn't a bad idea either.

Some streamers of this game on Twitch seem to really hate on Patty and find her incredibly annoying, maybe part on they feel she isn't important to the story since she wasn't a party member in the original on 360. I was thrilled about her cause she looked like she could be a lot of fun, want to try her out some eventually or rather get better since i have spent some time trying her out. My usual team is Yuri, Estelle, Rita and Judith/Patty.

For me, it was of course Yuri,. But then I grinded Raven's Fell Arm, and got his 200 man melee title. He looks like a badass assassin. It's supposed to come from Tales of Innocence. For some reason, I just have never used Judith much, and would let the AI run tornadoes with her. Flynn is another one, as he has access to a title that makes him look like another Tales of Protagonist.

I used Estelle rhe most in my entire playthrough to the poit thst i almost played her exclusively with how versatile she is as dhe can attack and heal. Plus sh ehit all my boxes for s favorite character. Pink, healer, good personality and a good character story. I was constantly changing the party as i would put the characters who were story wise important at the moment in the fight.

I main Repede, my brother plays Patty and the a.I. is usually raven and Estelle, with rita taking Estelle or raven's place when neccassary. I love how quick Repede is. I just love the crazy combos I can do with him and I always find a new arte combo to practice. We're close to end game right now, trying to get the four spirits and all. (First playthrough.) I'm hoping I can get more skills that let me do the crazy combos I see online. My only gripe is that it's difficult to hit the aireal enemies. (Also, gale dog is broken!) My brother likes Patty simply for just one move... Critical Little Big Chef. He also likes Big Risk. Estelle honestly is ten times worse than Donald or Raine when it comes to healing. Raven and Patty are honestly our more reliable healers. Raven sometimes does it instantly. Estelle also likes to just stand around doing nothing half the time. I messed with her a.I. once and she broke and I can't seem to fix her a.I. back to the way it was. (Where she actually did stuff other than stand around.) At least angel ring is busted. She likes that and nightinggale. Raven holds his own and heals consistently so I have no problems with him as an a.I. Rita has a habit of messing up my combo expiraments, but other than that, I like having her around. (Also, blah blah is fun.) We sometimes use Yuri as both a playable character and A.I. , but I suck with him. The a.I. uses too much TP. Judith seriously can't take a hit half the time. Karol is... eh. He does what he can. Flynn feels so... pointless honestly. His heals aren't good and he isn't the smartest a.I. either. A good distraction at best.

I feel like raven’s auto setting isn’t very good. Most of the time I look over and he’s just standing around taking a long time to fire his bow. There may be some adjustment I’m not aware of, but not too impressed with his AI.

Having to manually control your AI characters is not optimal as you may need your AI to use a specific skill while you're in a combo and might break it by doing some menuing.

@@JM-vl3cy you can manipulate what her ai does by going into tactics i really only use manually in case of emergency heal but otherwise you can program her to heal more then anything and she will still do a ton of magic damage and she's tanky which is rare in a magic user she literally can clear fields too with some of her magic arts i onec did a playthrough without the goddess rita and Estelle can easily take her place for magic damage and still heal when you need it

@@brandongarzon5203 I know it's possible to go Defense + only activate her support abilities but it means taking out the rest of what she has just to compensate the bad AI. Realistically you have no reason to want the AI to play her instead of you. Again, it certainly works, but it's not optimal.

If we are going off personal preference, then Rita is my go-to choice. I am terrible with combo characters so Judith is way out for me and while I can have fun playing Yuri, I'm not good at stringing along artes. I have played Repede before and its so fun just running around like I'm fucking Sonic on crack, just not enough to justify maining. I haven't played Karol aside from the Melees. I prefer being a tank or a damage dealer so Estelle is out. Shes just a tad too slow for me. Flynn is fine if not a bit stuffy in terms of playstyle. Patty is hard for me to enjoy because while her highs are awesome, the lows are garbage. Nothing like almost nuking your team during an important fight am i right? Oh hi Duke didn't see you there. No don't bother using Big Bang on me. I'll do it myself.

Judith is absolutely top tier. She can literally fight any fight and keep it 1v1. Consider that solo runs are more popular and require more skill than a casual with-party run in tales games and you'll see what I mean. Aerial mobility is ALWAYS the best feature to have, period. It's why Milla and to some extent Ludger are broken in Xillia 2.

No, she would not be top tier. This list was not taking into account player skill as the main factor; just because a character is able to be potentially broken in the hands of a good player who knows how to use them to their fullest doesn't mean that they are automatically the best in the game, especially when you consider that there are easily just as many people (if not more so) that aren't able to play her to the same level of skill. It should also take into consideration how much a character is able to contribute to the party when included as well as how easy they are to get the best results out of. More players will prefer the characters being able to contribute to the party in some meaningful way, while generally speaking, wh eff n making this kind of list, those that give the biggest rewards for the least amount of investment put into them WILL objectively be the best overall, and Judith (though good when mastered) is essentially the antithesis of this, so putting her that high up would be based on bias rather than objective facts.
