Thanks for the defect detector "demonstration". Down, here, in Central Florida, along CSX's (ex-ACL) "A"-Line, the defect detector at Milepost 819 (Loughman Holdout) broadcasts on 160.590, the principal road channel (versus on a dedicated channel). Interesting note, however...a short distance south of the current Loughman detector (hut of metal construction) is an out-of-service concrete structure (likely location of the original ACL / SCL detector) that still stands!!

Quite possibly. I've also always assumed it could be dirty diesel fuel injectors. I know that can be an issue on diesel auto engines that put out black smoke. It seems plausible it could be responsible for heavy smoke on train diesels.

Blown tip on an injector..turbo wouldn't make it miss. Turbo would've been a steady stream of smoke. From the puffing smoke and the sound as it went by, I'd bet on the injector.

Thank you for taking us back to Filtration Lane leading the Hamilton, Ohio water filtration plant along the CSX tracks, Jaw Tooth. It has been a while since we have been to this location. That CSX engine that was blowing out black smoke may have had a problem with a turbo charger. It was nice to hear the defect detector working near the Filtration Lane crossing. The next time that you go to this location, could you get closer to the tracks to show use what the defect detector parts look like. It would be interesting to see what makes the defect detector work. That intermodal train you caught in Hamilton, Ohio was moving slowly as it passed the crossing.

That one car with Seimer took even longer is that is an articulated auto rack and is probably closer to 100 ft. That one inbound has two nice clean SFLC racks at the end and is one of those reporting marks that made a comeback after 20 years. Presently there are some well cars also lettered that way but back in the 1990s Santa Fe used them on insulated box cars and even a few mechanical reefers. Much warmer for your travels today as the Hawaiian shirt collection comes out of storage. That poor first unit is nowhere near Tier 4 emissions but rather Teardrops for all that heavy exhaust

Hey jaw tooth it's fun hearing the detector giving into to the crews. Divide the axels by 4 to know how many cars are on train.. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
@trainman2k9 ай бұрын
Thank you, Jaw Tooth, for the radar shot. (Sadly, on my guess, I was 14MPH above actual speed. Out of practice I guess because 'someone' often forgets to use his radar gun! ;^) Won't name names here though) Wouldn't it be nice if somehow, the detectors could eliminate the axles on all the locomotives in the consist from the axle count - be easier to have a car count, but then again, the articulated units would throw the count off anyhow, so I guess it's all the same. If you ever get up around Erie, Pennsylvania, try to let me know ahead of time and I'll try to meet you to buy you lunch. I truly appreciate your work at putting these videos together for us. Stay safe and let God show you the way

Hey Jawtooth, love your videos! Please don’t categorize graffiti as “cool”!!? Those people no matter how “ talented” anyone may think they are. They are nothing more then criminals destroying thousands of dollars of other peoples property. Like you mentioned in this video about that one car “ that it must have taken a long time to do that”. Someone isn’t doing their job to stop that type of destruction! Sorry, not ARTISTS!! VANDALS that should be locked up and held accountable!!!!
