Interesting to see a US geometry train. In the UK they are called network measurement trains and painted bright yellow. The biggest ones are 9-car sets which operate at up to 125mph and are nicknamed "Flying Bananas" (yellow and very fast). Hope the Hamilton depot move goes well. Cheers, JT👍

I dealt with those types of controls and cam switches all the time in my career before I retired. I`ve got 4 videos of 4 different trains with "Timmy" riding on it. I was with you 3 of those times!

I think one of those old paper mill buildings would be great turned into makers studios. Each one with equipment that makers could share and programs where seasoned makers can help train newbies. Then also have market spaces where makers could sale their creations if they want to.

Thank you for the update on the Hamilton, Ohio Baltimore & Ohio depot. I hope that you can capture all or at least part of the depot moves to its new location. The CSX high rail truck and the Sperry track inspection truck were nice additions to the trains that you capture. The highlight of this video was the CSX geometry train. It was a surprise to see that the first "passenger" car on the geometry train still had "Southern Pacific" on the upper portion of the car.

At 15:22 in the video, the power is just about at Old River. That was the PCC&StL "Panhandle Route to Richmond Indiana. In the old PRR Depot (long gone) was a CTC panel that controls traffic for the Panhandle from about Fairfield to Richmond. The Panhandle was separate and is now the southbound trackage used by both. The B&O used to run on what is now MLK Blvd and on 4th Street. Back then the only shared track was between Old River and New River Jct.

Loved the geometry train with an old Southern Pacific passenger car. It bought back memories of when I was 7 years old riding the SP passenger train from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The train was 15 cars and I was in the first car. I was terrified crossing between cars, but I loved the dome car, the last car, and seeing the locomotive up front. When we got to San Francisco the train was parked with the locomotive nose to the station. We had to walked passed it to go inside. That behemoth was noisy and scary. SP already had their intimidating bloody-nose paint jobs to add to the monster effect. Geez, that would be 55 years ago.

A lot of YT channels are doing shorts all of a sudden. For me, I hate it that it's a vertical video, and many of them are 'too short", and some have voice overs that I hate. I would probably watch more if they were horizontal and maybe a little longer. Keep up the great work.
@RailRide2 жыл бұрын
Not a fan of vertical video either. KZbin has been bugging channel owners to use them (like JT mentioned, it's competing with TikTok). What wasn't mentioned is, according to statistics the majority of internet access (and thus, youtube viewership) is via cellphones, thus the proliferation of vertical video (I know, how lazy is it that one can't be bothered to turn their phone sideways?)
@christopherclarke93162 жыл бұрын
G'day JT. Here in Oz we call the geometry train the AK cars. They do the same things and are usually top and tailed by motive power so they can always be forward controlled by loco crew when travelling on branch lines with no turning or runaround facility. As for the large truck with the silver tank I am guessing it was a sucker truck. High pressure water blaster for hydro-demolition and giant vacuum cleaner to capture runoff. If that is what it is they were probably using it to clear material from under the depot and partially remove old foundations ready for the move.

@donaldkarcheriii72492 жыл бұрын
When you said geometry train??? I kinda put 2&2 together and figured it out, especially when it was old coaches. I imagine full of sensitive equipment, GPS, mapping, rail elevation, grade, etc. That big Ole window on the back, , what could be that important that you just passed that you need a window that big. There was a guy sitting there working. Good video. Norfie and Chessie compilation of funny things would make a good short. A short of that burning NS going under that bridge would get some hits.
@noeyesmike2 жыл бұрын
that Timmy sign means theres a guy named Tim or Timothy getting away with defacing rail cars on an regular basis
@robertfederle16632 жыл бұрын
That crossing gate, looks like they used the drive motor in the new one. Some older ones had a GRS (General Railway Signal) drive motor similar if not the same as a Model 2A semaphore drive. Those were heavy.
@jerrykinnin79412 жыл бұрын
JT that truck is a Vacuum truck. They use it primarily to clear storm drains and sewer backups. A very useful contraption. Those Sperry trucks that ride the rails are neat as well.

@rrelectric51592 жыл бұрын
A lot is missing from that signal pole. There is a small DC motor that mounts on the inside bracket and meshes with all those gears. With the gearing and the counterweight on the crossing arm it dosen't take much effort to move it All the wiring is gone as well. Separate circuits for the arm motor, flashers and bell if it is on that pole as well as the cover to enclose the whole thing. I have seen that CSX geometry train before and always wondered why it had an old Sp car on it.
