The part I LOVE THE MOST IS -----> THE MUSIC!!!! I have never heard this song until I saw this video, but I had to put it on my list of all-time favorites. (Yes! Daniel F.) I love how you (Mike) aligned certain video moments with specific parts of the song, ESPECIALLY at 1:07. Everyone has a different taste in music; I've had lots of people recommend music that I DID NOT LIKE at all. And, I've recommended my fav's, only to get a negative response. It's okay. ### Also...Mike....I see you used a monocular at 7:08, is that something that EVERY engineer is required to have? (...of course, due to the huge "safe braking distance") Again, GREAT VIDEO! P.S. I hope you're enjoying your retirement. : )

+HERMAN GIBSON thanks you for your comment I try not to answer anything that involves descriptions of locomotive operations although I know the answer. We wouldn't want to give how to or why information to the world I don't know what the true reason for the want to know...sorry
@gordonclark76329 жыл бұрын
+Quick That is okay I can understand the reasoning. My reason for the question was purely interest as I was a locomotive fireman in the 1970s with the Victorian Railways in Victoria Australia. Our locomotives only have one set of instruments (or did when I was in the job) It has been forty years since I was in a diesel engine and am now retired from years in law enforcement. The locomotives that I was on had the drivers controls on the left for long end first running which meant that the fireman had to keep his eyes open for signals around the right hand bend as the driver could't see them especially in an X class which was the longest (in that time) until he had turned the bend.
@bbundy10699 жыл бұрын
+Gordon Clark There are two screens in case one fails. Each screen is identical and both have all the same functions available, the EOT can be programmed in from either one, distance counter, the cut in/out for lead or trail, etc... If you take notice in some of the scenes, there is a blanked "wall" to the left of the engineer above the radio. That is where the PTC (Positive Train Control) screen will be installed when it comes on line. Some of those will have a screen on both sides so the CO has one as well, depending on locomotive model.

Mike---Did you ever experience any catastrophic engine failures? Several years ago, an engine blew on a train in Coweta County in Newnan, GA. The local newspaper had a very spectacular front-page photo of fire shooting out of the exhaust at least 50-100 feet into the air. Firefighters had to keep pouring foam into it before the engine finally seized. Just wondering. PS---Thanks for the videos!
