Hello Mike. Dalton, Ga native here. I wanted to get hired by CSX or NS and work through or near my hometown, but I couldn’t get on. However, BNSF hired me on and promoted me to engineer after some time. I enjoyed it, but it never felt quite right since I could not work near home. Thanks for the uploads! Though I can’t work the rails in this beautiful part of the country, it’s nice to see what it would be like. Thank you for the great footage! God bless!

I grew up a Block West of Flint, Michigan CSX Switch Yard and Terminal. I moved aways 30 Years Ago Only To Realize I Am Now 22 Years Later A 1/4 From The Very Same North and SouthBound CSX Line. CSX Leased to a Canadian Company but They Still Run The 8:30 Southbound Train Every Night. It’s not Quite As Good a A Break Yard For 24 Hours a Day Trains Moving Around But I Will Take it. There is Nothing More Lonely then That 8:30 pm Line Blowing at Every One Mile Crossing. I Can Hear that Train Coming From Five Miles Away. I was a Fireman For 23 That Covered The Flint Break Yard, I Have Worked a Propane Tanker Leaking ( Eventually They Brought In a Blow Crew From Texas To Blow The Fire Out. Then just a Leaky Valve on a different Propane Car, A Driver Having a Nervous Breakdown From His Wife Leaving Him Took off North With a Single Engine at Full Speed Eventually Derailing at The Curve North of The Break Yard( He Was Moving Fast) so Don’t ever think an Engine By itself Won’t get Going Fast Because They Will. Then just a Derailed Engine Tank Caught Fire But We were about To Get The Fuel Shut Off Fast. I can’t even Count The Calls For Camp Fires from Train Hobos. One Thing About CSX Sure Sent Us All To Schools all Over For Any Little Situation That Might Pop Up.

They should have left out the dam music, music don't belong in train videos,it drowns out the sounds of the train videos

I’d imagine it isn’t an overly appealing work-life balance, being on a freight train crew .. Working at any given time day or night, time away from home and/or family, etc .. If I’m wrong on this then please educate me ..

Hi Mike Barnett I hope you enjoying your retirement my name is Donald King from Jacksonville FL you might have been to csx moncref yard. I'm 49 years old a railfan myself I wanted to get on the railroad if I wants to get on the railroad I would have you to get me on.

I think it's wonderful that you like what you do, because I meet engineers some time and they're just glad to retire and don't want to talk about the railroad. I was a retailer, and a meat cutter to be exact and a very good meat cutter, and I loved my occupation. Until this day at 74, I still keep up with the retail industry modifications. I believe I mention this to you before that I have a shelf train in my home office with approx. 60 feet of track. I love trains since I was a child. I tell people sometimes that are board to rediscover some of the things they liked from their childhood. I've had an H/O train since i was 20 years old. The divorce messed up one layout, but I didn't quit. . Man you have a great collection of photos for the family down the road.
