Just a quick note-in the end of the video You mentioned that the way she was executed was too cruel for the video.If You mean the giraffe thing-it is not true.That is a reference to a fictional characted,who was mounted by an ass(donkey).In EVERY source I found it is mentioned that she and the other scum of Nero (the scum being 3 men,one of which a freed slave) were dragged through the city in chains and executed. I can provide links if You like. Otherwise-great episode.I never believed I would see a video about Locusta,she is Not famous compared to ther figures,so I presumed that would not be made into an episode.

Maybe she is one of the first to be recorded in western history. But there have been several before her in other countries. Angulimala ( Finger necklace ) was a notorious brigand and smuggler who killed his victims and then .. yup.. wore their fingers as a necklace sometime around 6th Century BCE in Northern India. Anula of Anuradhapura (sometime around 47 BCE) was a queen who married several kings and then killed them thereby inheriting kingdoms in Sri Lanka. She was burned alive for her crimes in 42 BCE.

@@PeterP_ Sorry for interrupting, but the historical Angulimala was probably a real person who converted to Buddhism, but his story is mainly used to convey the idea that even an incredibly evil man like him can become "pure " by following Buddhist teachings. There are other examples within Buddhism itself like Emperor Asoka who converted to Buddhism after seeing his soldiers massacring the soldiers of Kalinga . A christian equivalent would be the tale of Saul who started out by persecuting christians and even partaking in the stoning of Saint Stephenus . But suddenly changing his mind and converting to Christianity and becoming the Apostle Paul . History and religion is weird af.

I understand leaving out the details of the execution. That said, hasn’t it often been thought to be, perhaps, a bit exaggerated? I’ve read accounts from later Romans who speculate on the nature of the execution, specifically mentioning how unlikely all of it sounded. Furthermore, how would the Romans have trained the giraffes?
@larrydouglas28206 жыл бұрын
Thankfully while gruesome, the story involving beastiality in her death isn't very well attested in the literature. So I'm glad you didn't mention the specifics for that reason. But to anybody who comes across this account of her death the earliest source on that I can find is The History of Serial Killers by Michael Newton, First Edition. It gives a detailed dating and account supposedly of a contemporary source, but if the account given by that source existed it, it has been lost to history. It was removed in later editions. Still fun to talk about, and interesting how some things are perserved through history in non-official sources, sometimes when they are too unspeakable for mainstream scholastic tradition.

On orders from Galba, Locusta was publicly raped by a specially trained giraffe, after which she was torn apart by wild animals."

Nonsense and hearsay. If the best source you've got is fabricated than you didn't research it thoroughly enough, especially sense dio, a contemporary of hers had said she and several other were led through the streets of Rome in chains and then executed we don't actually know how she died but most likely she was beheaded because the romans perfered efficiency over brutality.
